Great thread. I've read that the Nano deal isn't valid with the ADC discount. What about the $100 printer deal? This seems to be valid with any Mac hardware. Also, what about Applecare? Can Apple Care still be purchased and if so is there a discount being applied like there is if I were to go the student route? Thanks,

Josh

Most rebates are not valid with ADC purchases. I don't see anything in the terms of the printer rebate to suggest that it would be valid, so I'd assume you can't use it.

Purchase AppleCare through EDU...it's much cheaper than through ADC.

I was planning on getting a Student Membership when I finally go away to college to get my kick-awesomely tricked-out Mac Pro. But then I did some thinking; it's a Developer membership, correct? Wouldn't that mean Apple would not only require proof of college registration, but also verification that you will be using your computer for developmental means? Otherwise, what would stop college-bound students from simply getting a SADC membership and shirking over the Education store? What does Apple consider to be development work if they do require this proof? Perhaps I've just missed something here...

Thanks, even for flames,
Skil

you only have to prove you are a student. in my case I faxed a copy of my student id card (i might of sent them my current (at the time) semester schedule but I don't remember)

I'm wondering if I have to be a full time student or just enrolled in college. Right now I'm taking just one course but am interested in buying a MBP. So the ADC discount is worth it for me as long as I can get it. Bonus part is I can use the developer tools.

I haven't read anywhere that you have to be full-time. Just enrolled. I would be in the same boat since I will be part-time for the next couple quarters.

While we are on the subject of tax...

Many states offer a tax free weekend for back to school savings. While it is not for a month and a half, (August 3rd-5th in NC) I would wondering if buying a MBP from ADC during that weekend would save me on tax? If not, it'd probably be a lot cheaper just to buy through my Uni store where they do offer the tax break and the Education discount (at the cost of not buying ADC Student, and subsequently no free Leopard...)

Any insight?

Andrew

The Apple store may not calculate that in by default, but I think you may have a good chance if you call to get the tax removed.

I just ordered

MBP 15 inch 2.4ghz and choose the 7200rpm hard drive
Everything else is standard.

Regular Price : £1699

ADC Price : £1358

Not sure about education price :D

I think the HE discount is about 15%, so that would be about £1444 (can anyone verify this?). When you factor in the ADC cost, £50, you still saved over £50 - plus you'll get Leopard for free, so it's probably worth it.

Thanks for posting that MacDonaldsd, reasuring since I'm looking to do the same thing. :D

Just to verify for you mkgm1, the HE discount for a MBP with 7200rpm HD = £1,444.08. You were spot on :)

If anyone else is curious the base MBP HE Discounts are
15"/2.2Ghz/2GB/120GB = £1,104.50
15"/2.4Ghz/2GB/160GB = £1,359.48
17"/2.4Ghz/2GB/160GB = £1,528.68

If you want to know any other HE prices please ask

so all you have to prove to apple for your ADC is your student I.D. and this comming (fall) semester's schedule. I mean my schedule won't have any computer classes does that matter?

I believe so. I don't think it matters at all that you're not doing computing.

The only downside to ADC is that it doesn't include the 3 year free parts and labour warranty that comes with the normal Higher Ed discount. For a MBP I personally think a three year warranty is a must.

So basically I'm a law student, I'm enrolled since May 2007 but will start my education september 2007 when I will get my ID card. I do have an enrolment letter.

How do I go about the verification status? Any advice

Alright, this has been covered already in many topics and I believe in this topic as well, but here it is AGAIN anyway:

"1. How do I verify my student status so my ADC Student Membership can be activated?
After you purchase an ADC Student Membership and receive an Activation Code via email, you must verify your student status before ADC will activate your product. The verification steps are:

1. Visit the ADC Member Site to confirm that you are a student in your ADC Profile. After you click the Student Status checkbox, you must also provide your student ID number and school name.
2. Proceed to the Activations area in the ADC Member Site and use the Code you received via email to start the Activation process.
3. Fax a copy of your passport or other official identification (such as a driver's license or student identification) along with a current or upcoming course schedule or other official proof of enrollment from your college/university.

At Apple Store?

Can the Student ADC discount be used at a B&M apple store?

I'm intrigued by this option, especially because of the chance to get the leopard free, and the savings on tax.

However, I might be able to skip out on tax altogether since I'm close to NH, if I can use this discount at the Apple Store that is.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

No, you can only do it online. Also, I believe that the tax is based on your billing address (not delivery address, I tested this with an Oklahoma/Texas purchase). So you can't even have it shipped to NH and pick it up from a friend.
