New emails appear almost instantly, maybe a couple of seconds after it pops up on my PC running Outlook. But, and this is the big one, ONLY if the new email is in the top level inbox folder. If there is a rule to move certain emails to subfolders they will not be pushed to the iPhone.

There is a new option in the Settings menu for "Fetch." Make sure that Push is turned on, otherwise you will need to go into mail for it to check.

My iPhone has actually been getting mail BEFORE Outlook, which is pretty impressive.
Yeah, I've got Push turned on. My iPhone is still not getting mail unless I manually check or the Fetch interval rolls around.

Figured It Out

If your Direct Push isn't working correctly, look here:

In my case, the heartbeat values for the Exchange Server were not set quite correctly. (Read the page I linked to for the full story.) I reset the values and then restarted the IIS Admin Service on the Exchange Server, and now I receive e-mails in Entourage and on my iPhone virtually simultaneously.

This is by far the biggest thing in 2.0 for me. It is working perfectly for me.

BTW, is there a shortcut to go from one account's inbox to another? Say I am in my exchange inbox but I want to quickly jump to my gmail inbox, is there a "secret" way to do this with a single button click?

So is it not possible to have two separate calendars, one in the Exchange account and a separate personal calendar? Does this mean you have to dump your iCal events and Address Book contacts into Entourage/Outlook and sync from there exclusively? This seems like something that will bother a lot of people.

You can have 2 contact lists and 2 calendars IF you're using both exchange and mobile me.

Interesting. I don't own an iPhone yet but I thought there was a regular calendar app that synced with iCal? Can't you sync that with your machine directly (not push), and then access your Exchange calendar separately?

You can have 2 contact lists and 2 calendars IF you're using both exchange and mobile me.

Is there a way to use this so i can PUSH my Hotmail.co.uk emails to the iPhone?

i would think not. however if you have a hotmail plus account (£14.99 per annum) you can set all your hotmail mail to forward to an email address of your choice.

i will probably do this if i sign up for mobileme.

this all depends on how good hotmail is on the iphone and how mobileme performs as an email client.

if both of them fail to impress then i will seriously consider gmail.

I like to keep my personal stuff separate from my work exchange account!

Okay - I'm confused !

I thought the reviewers said you can only have Exchange Calendars & Contacts or MobileMe Calendars & Contacts but not both ?

you can have both, but you can't have an exchange contacts and calendar coupled with a local contacts and calendar on your iphone, there's a difference between contacts/calendar on your iphone when you subscribe to mobileme as opposed to just using the iphone and no syncing over the air at all. i got mine today and am able to have both my exchange and mobileme contacts and calendar.

Anyone figure out how to disable the password requirement (instead of the usual convenient 'slide to unlock') when using Exchange as a mail client?

My 2 cents....it took a while to figure out I was using the wrong slash between the domain and username but once I straightened that out, it worked perfectly. I'm very impressed with it. I've been putting the iPhone up against Entourage and a Sprint Touch and which gets a given email first appears to be pretty random.

Calendar Sync is not Flawless - Unless I need to change settings?

Can't Edit Calendar Items on iPhone w/ Exchange Sync

I updated my iphone 1.0 to the 2.0 firmware and have an issue with the Calendar items that sync'd from my Exchange server to the iphone.
I can not edit any calendar items (all-day events, appointments, etc.) on my iPhone that were not created on the iPhone. So, all of the calendar items that moved to my iPhone can not be edited. The only thing I can do is change the reminder. If I create the calendar item on the iPhone, I can eidt it and it does sync properly. Also, it wasn't until I marked all calendar items as unread in Outlook did all of the items come over to the iPhone. Prior to that only recurring items came to the iPhone.
This is very odd behavior and unless I can edit all Calendar items on the iPhone and have the changes sync, this new sync feature is useless to me.
Also, the calendar items all came over as invitations/meeting requests each asking me to accept, maybe or decline. Accepting did not change the behavior of the editing. I have a very long list of invitations/meeting requests, one for each appointment.
I think this implementation is buggy, or I have to change something that I have not identified, yet.
Contacts are fine, so is email.
Anyone have the same problems with Calendar items and Exchange Sync? Any solutions?

Events created on the iPhone can be edited on the iPhone until you edit it in Outlook and it syncs.
This is a big problem. Events can not be deleted on iPhone.
Maybe Exchange/Outlook properties and permissions must be changed?

Also want to get rid of the invitations related to each event that originally synced.

has anybody noticed that the iPhone's battery drain much faster because of exchange?
does your phone heats up????

Drains faster yes - noticed it especially overnight as I forgot to turn my mail off! It was full 10 hours ago - its now about 3/4 full.

exchange problems

My activesync is set up. I see my email folders but I can not receive emails in any of the folders including my inbox except for my trash. My calendar is not showing meetings either. The contacts are working.

I have two other 3g iphones set up but just this one account will not work. I have tried the account on another phone and still have the same problem. My exchange is on intermedia.net.

I work at a University, and the IT people said they may not support the iPhone until August. I can access my exchange account from my desktop mail program (without any VPN), but when I tried to use the same server with the iPhone, it fails exchange verification.

Anyone know how to circumvent this, or do they actually have to enable something for me to use the iPhone with exchange?

Thanks!

They are almost certainly going to have to turn stuff on on the Exchange Server in order for you to use ActiveSync. I've done this several times, both for my own personal Exchange Server and for clients' servers, and it's a somewhat involved process.

If it makes you feel any better, people with Windows Mobile devices (Samsung Blackjack, etc.) are probably no better off than you are, as the configuration requirements are identical. But do this: Ask them if Windows Mobile devices currently work. If they say yes, then they're blowing you off.

activesync on and still no dice

Activesync is on and we are still having issues with one of our iphones. Only some elements are working. Intermedia mentioned something about the email account is large. I find that strange that would be the problem.

i have my yahoo mail pushed to my iphone.

i noticed when i send a mail to someone who has like "name"@vtext.com"
through the mail icon, they dont get it instantly

but if i go to safari, go to my yahoo mail and send them one, they get it instantly.

i dont want to have to do that everytime. id rather save texts messages and just email

You say one of your iPhones is having issues. Does that mean that others are working OK? Because if so, then you need to take a close look at what the differences are between the two phones... perhaps the problem lies in the particular mailbox you are trying to sync. To test that, try syncing to a different mailbox and see if it works as expected. If it does, then it seems likely that the first mailbox you tried does have some sort of problem with it.

Yes the other accounts work on the phone. I checked the settings a many times over and over on this account on both the device and the server settings. Intermedia mentioned the mailbox has a lot of emails. I think that would be common. I am only looking to push 25 right now.

I remember reading on another thread here to make sure the case of the username matches correctly, including any alias. Once a couple users in that thread changed the case (ie User.Name@company.com) push email started working. I believe the thread was under the Tips category. Might want to do a search for it.

No luck with getting exchange to work for me. I always get the error exchange verification failed when I try to setup my corporate email. I went from a Tmobile Dash that uses Windows Mobile and had no problems setting it up. I can log on to Outlook Web Access no problem as well. I even tried to setup up exchange on another Windows mobile phone after my Tmobile line was deactivated and it worked fine. I went to apple store as well and tried another Iphone 3g with no luck. WTF?!
