Exchange Contacts NOT Flawless

When I was using iTunes to sync my contacts, the mappings were messed up. For example, mobile phone numbers were showing up in the home number field. I just patiently waited for Active Sync.

I downloaded 2.0 today and the same thing still happens when using over the air contacts sync.

In addition, When I first installed 2.0, I noticed that the contacts module was very slow with my 5,000+ contacts. It kept getting slower and slower. Well, finally it has completely crashed my phone module (can't make calls etc). I restored, synced, did all the normal stuff to no avail. I finally turned off Exchange Contact Syncing and it hung there forever and never turned off the contacts. I did this like 4 times. Finally, after many syncs and turning off of Exchange Contacts, I GOT IT TO TURN OFF. And like magic, my crashed phone app/module was fixed!

Anyone have any idea whether this is a bug, or some kind of config? I think the mapping problem and the crashing problems are related.... I don't think the iPhone can handle a large amount of contacts....

In order to troubleshoot I gave my iPhone to another guy in the office WITH LESS CONTACTS. Guess what? Contacts don't crash...

has anybody noticed that the iPhone's battery drain much faster because of exchange?
does your phone heats up????

Yes, with exchange push (email, calendar, contacts) my 3G would have a dead battery by 1-2pm. With some nifty network tests, we decided to try not synching contacts and now my phone lasts through to the evening with all the other settings the same.

If you iphone says you have 4 read unread messages in the red circle. Then say you read 1 of them in your outlook on your PC/Mac will it change on your iphone to say 3 unread messages in the red circle, or does it still remain at 4?

Yes, but only when fetch occurs or when you open your mail if you fetch manually. The push is alert for new stuff -- calendar or mail.

Exchange works great on the iPhone - shame though that with Push enabled the battery is lucky to last 12 hours or so with lots of mail coming through

Push actually works ok with battery. We had issue with large contact list, once we turned off push on the contacts phone battery lasted through to the evening instead of running out of juice my mid afternoon.
