What's the fastest way to get one of the M2 Airs? Preorder, or show up to an Apple store before opening on July 15?

For those who say the 256GB SSD is too small to be useful, do you use any online storage? I used to love huge drives, but these days I use Macs with small drives for the OS, and then external and cloud for large files and backup. I don’t actually understand why someone would pay what they do for large Apple drives, when there are so many options for <2 oz NVMe drives or cloud storage.

The M1 Air got me back to the Apple group and after 2 years of it I moved to the M1 MBP 14". Don't know why I had left for a while but I must say it is great to be back in the fold again.

If that M2 MBP came in midnight, I’d have one on order already… 🤷
Yeah, midnight seems more of a Pro color. I wish the MBA had come in all the bright colors we were expecting. Although, without the upgraded speakers, microphones, and screen, the MBP is barely a Pro.

Decent point. I'm going with 2TB for one reason only, photos. Yes, I use iCloud Photos, but I always keep a copy of the originals local just in case. The risk is too great.

I also have a time machine backup and Crashplan.

Dumb question (and maybe not the best thread for it), but I have myself a 4K monitor (Dell S2721DGF) and was wondering if this Apple adapter (link) would be a solid interim solution to connect an M2 Air until I can score a proper docking station down the line??

That’s me. I’ve had iCloud for 10 years. I’ve been buying the lowest capacity ssd macs in that time. For me personally, the cloud is way better of a place to spend that money. It syncs all my macs, phone, iPads, etc, and I save hundreds on each device.

The redesigned MacBook Air with the all-new M2 Apple silicon chip will be available for customers starting Friday, July 15, MacRumors has learned from a retail source.

The new MacBook Air was announced and previewed during WWDC earlier this month, with Apple stating availability will begin in July. The MacBook Air features a redesigned body that is thinner and lighter than the previous model. Thanks to the M2 chip, the MacBook Air features up to 18 hours of battery life, according to Apple. With a launch planned for July 15, pre-orders can be expected to go live on Friday, July 8.

The new MacBook Air starts at $1199, with the highest configuration costing $2499. The previous M1-powered MacBook Air remains in Apple's lineup for $999 for customers looking for a cheaper option.

Well I’ve ordered some extras to go with my M2 MacBook Air, including a 67W fast charger and a 7 port dongle for my usage requirements.

hopefully they should arrive late this week early next.

I like the midnight color but I hate the notch so much (seems bigger than on the Pro) and starting at 8gb/256gb for that price in 2022 is ridiculous.
Also still 60hz, only one external display support, thunderbolt 3, probably slow ssd too for the 256gb.

The previous design with the M2 should have been the Macbook Air M2 for 999$, normal yearly update.
That new design should have been called "Macbook M2" with the higher price tag.
F**** profit Apple. Think different not $$$$.

Not only that, but given how the SSD is now an inseparable part of the SoC, it is for all practicality impossible to salvage the data from it if it, or something else on the SoC, dies. I keep OS and Apps on the internal SSD of my mini, everything else goes on at least two of either external, network and cloud.

The midnight blue is going to sell the most, Imo. When was the last time there was a very dark colored laptop? Was it the polycarbonate MacBook offered in black near the end of its run?
100%. I wouldn’t even consider it otherwise, but it’s so cool I’m honestly looking for excuses to buy one. Of course, Apple is looking for excuses for me to NOT buy one with the 256GB SSD vs 2x128GB differences, lol.

still think they will look best in silver... midnight is a fingerprint magnet, and too new and pc looking (dark) IMO
Agree that you can't go wrong with silver. That said, after having had the same silver MBP for 13 years, I am ready for something different, and think I've settled on the Starlight. I like that it appears to be only very slightly gold - almost like a white gold, or a warmer take on silver. Plus, most of the furniture my wife and I have bought for our living room in the past few years has warm metal accents, so maybe it'll fit the décor a bit better. (Not really a reason to choose this color, but can't hurt, either.)

I agree that the Midnight, which I was initially drawn to, is just too dark, and it's also not blue enough for my tastes. Maybe I'll change my tune when I see it in person, but my work laptop is a very dark gray with a carbon fiber finish, and I would like my personal one to be a good deal different. So... Starlight ?

I think for me it’s not what looks best, but what is different. I bought a Dell XPS 15 for work, and got the silver with white, as opposed to the back, because black is virtually all I’ve had for a decade. Now I’m going the opposite direction with the MBA, because all of my Macs have been silver or space gray. It will be interesting to see what the polls show is the most popular color, because one can make an argument for any of the 3 winning.
