For those of you wondering what an SED display is, check out this link, which shows the SED sets previewed at CES. Now that's a nice computer display, perfect, maybe not incredibly expensive, and close to ready for prime time! Of course, if finished sets were announced by Apple, Canon, Toshiba or anyone else, that would be a surprise in itself.

SED at CES

SED sounds pretty spectacular. And it sounds like it should be cheaper than either LCD or Plasma. Looks like I have to add it to my tech shopping list :D

MacRumors insider info?

Just to speculate even more: Even after 16 pages of discussion, I still wonder why this made it to page 1. Does MacRumors know more than we do?
Remember that time when MacRumors said GarageBand will be presented at the Keynote? They somehow seemed to know more than we did...

God, I love these conspiracy theories shortly before the keynote! :p Cheers!

I suspect because it appeared that a similar story had independently been uncovered by Grady and revealed by a poster on one of the rumor forums. On reflection, I (and others) suspect that Grady simply took the idea from the forum and then applied artistic license to tell a subtly different story with many of the same 'facts' repeated but just enough made-up stuff (eg the bit about Plasma) to fool.

THANKS NARCO !=)

...only one question...

is it SILENT ? ...or at least VERY quiet ?

NOW, as far as this rumor goes i'm all for Apple releasing SED displays ASAP, it doesn't matter if they announce them tuesday and ship 2h06; those images i checked on the internet are incredible and i don't even care for 1080p, i'll start looking for that rez in 5 years maybe...

SILENT, dude! After I bought my G4 Cube a while back, I wouldn't settle for anything less. Just with the G5 would be as silent...

Fishes,
narco.

I'm not seeing this mentioned (in the last 2 pages of the thread I perused), so...

O'Grady claims further sources in support of the MegaMacs:
http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=68

And mentions a cool-looking Apple patent on the alleged LCD remote control:
http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1164

I don't know... I'm starting to believe it could be true! (True doesn't mean coming this week, of course. In fact, some products that do exist as prototypes never ship in the end. Asteroid?)

I don't see Apple dropping the low-cost (non-PVR) Mac Mini, but adding PVR as an option makes sense. And building it into a big-screen all-in-one? Maybe.

well, lets hope the crowd at MWSF dont collectively all faint after Steve utters the words: "Oh-and one more thing..."

MR did give that particular horse a good beating back in July.
This is something that Apple bought. They don't seem to have done much with it so far, so I guess this would be as good a time as any :)
That might connect in with the HANA thing I mentioned a few days ago. That's a new standard many companies are starting up where a single Firewire cable connects all your media room stuff together and sends HDTV around on it. There is also a concept of a single remote for it. The idea is it's a high level standard where all the units in the media room (HDTV, AV disks, PVRs etc.) load their own custom interfaces onto the TV display, so a single remote can riffle through it and show and manipulate all the controls on the one display. This might connect in with it somehow.

Here's an article about the HANA remote

a hush goes over the crowd, steve goes to walk of stage and in true dramatic fasion, runs out of the back doors screaming 'no one more thing for you guys hahahaha'

HANA is so exciting. It's really something that can make home theater systems accessible to the common man. It's simple... just plug it in. Nothing complicated. I REALLY hope this move forward and becomes a standard along the lines of what RCA connectors have become today. The problem... inevitably some other company will form a competing alliance that has its own idea and has it's own format. Then we have 2 competing standards like we always do and yet again.. it remains complicated for the average consumer. Major electronics manufacturers, PLEASE adapt HANA as a standard.

So, Plasmas start at 42" and go up from there generally.

So are you saying my 37" plasma isn't really a plasma?

From all the research I did. LCD is still not as good at Plasma. LCD has problems keeping up with fast moving playback and doesn't have the viewing angles of Plasma. Also the contrast or black levels on a LCD still don't measure up to Plasma. Of course a lot depends on the quality of the TV. A so-so plasma maker (LG) would not win against a high quality LCD manufacturer. But a high end Panasonic will beat any LCD.

LCD vs Plasma

when exactly do i ever mention burn in? i agree plasma doesn't get burn in and haven't said otherwise. and 3 years isn't long enough to see differences between the technologies. try reading other people's post before commenting on them.

Then stop putting your poor Sears (tools dept) opinions on the forum. At least I am speaking from owning both a plasma and an LCD.

People, Wawa is like freaking 7-11.

Is anyone taking this seriously, or am I just dense.

Way better than a 7-11 IMO.

Way too early for an April Fool's joke.

Given the success that Apple has had in the music business, the TV/video business seems like a good next step. Witness the video iPod.

Apple does have to do something brilliant in order to keep their stock going. Computers and iPods just won't do it for 2007 and beyond.

Word out of CES was that flat panel displays would come down in price this year, big time. Maybe Apple will announce the plasmas tomorrow, and ship mid year or later. Or maybe they will eat some of the higher costs now to gain better profits as costs decrease down the road.

I guess we will be counting the bodies tomorrow after the keynote....

2.8GHz Yonah!?!?!?! What planet near the edge of the Sol System did he pull that from

That whole powerpage thing is craP! :) finally, read it..
I agree, because I just came across an "update" to the story over on MacDailyNews. http://macdailynews.com/index.php/weblog/comments/8120/

Notice this line in the story: "... Apparently the plasmas will include Front Row 2.0 which will include Apple's brand spankin' new Digital Video Recording (DVR) software. Front Row 2.0 (with DVR) will also come bundled on the new Intel-based Mac mini... the new Mac mini will be powered by a juicy 2.8GHz dual-core Yonah processor..."

WOW, isn't that amazing that Intel was secretly developing a 2.8GHz dual-core Yonah - I guess just for their new pride & joy, Apple... Now, if the 2.16GHz Yonah costs $637, can you imagine what a Yonah that's 33% faster would cost? Especially since all stories about Yonah pointed to it topping out this Summer at around 2.3GHz... God, I think Madame Eva The Fortune Teller should start her own rumor site - she'd be about as realistic as 70% of the nutjobs out there, but a helluva lot more entertaining.

Fake.

Sure looks fake.

Why do they all have the same image on them while being set up? Wouldn't they be powered off?
Why does it look exactly like an iMac fudged to look like a TV?
Aren't new Apple products brushed aluminum?
Why a black stand on one? With a white screen? That doesn't sound like Apple.
How can that guy stand on that shelf? Is the shelf sitting on top of the bottoms of the big screens?
Why does the one with the black stand look like the bottom of the panel is not a straight line?
Four sizes? For a new product?

And where is this being set up? Apple never sets up new product in stores before a release. Would they really set up the expo show floor a whole day before the Stevenote?

OOOO boy! I think I will be needing a new TV sooner than I thought!!! I can't wait for tomorrow!!

I'm not sure what to think - but Plasma? errr..nah I don't think so. Do people even buy Plasma TVs any more?

LCD is the way to go. I could see a 23 - 30" iHome kind of system. mmm.

do people even buy plasmas? lcds are the way to go?
um
actually i'm 100% sure that in reality it's the exact opposite.
i hope you were jesting

I AM FREAKIN OUT!!!! If this turns out to be true, I am going to lose it. lol... Seriously though, I think this is a great idea and cannot wait until Stevie takes the stage. I just wish I was there. :D

I would buy one in a heart beat. I've been waiting to buy a flat screen, figuring they'd just get better and better, but I'll jump at an Apple one.
