Pretty sure Google has a fingerprint scanner awkwardly on the back of its phone.
And it is so much less cumbersome to use than Touch ID!

i agree. that will most likely be the place the information is stored.Of course we won't know for sure until it is released but I'll bet our faces will not be stored any more than our finger prints are stored with Touch ID.
I think that's the point of having a 3d sensor.what if you hold it up to a picture of the user?
I'm down with that as long as it's not Arnold coming through the portal naked!Something a little scary about this.... I mean it's not like robots will get this data in the future and use it to kill specific people... come back in time and kill off the rebellion![]()
Nope, I understood your point. I’m pretty sure I would be out of the field of view.I think you missed my point: it's not that people don't use their phones on a table/desk, it's that I doubt they use them at such an extreme angle (with regard to the user), that it would be out of the field of the camera - I mean, unless you're _under_ the table and reaching up and unlocking it without looking![]()
This idea is ****ing horrible!!!! If you’re a twin like I am then there’s no point in even having this feature enabled. Every facial recognition that I’ve tried, my brother can unlock the phone. Which inevitably makes it pointless to set up. I wish they’d bring the touchID back.
If it's as buggy as TouchID, then I can't imagine too many people wanting to use it as their primary way of unlocking their phone.
Problem: Touch ID (version 2) is so quick, you blast past your notifications when you press the home button.
Solution: Raise to Wake.
Problem: FaceID is so fast, you blast past your notifications when you look at your phone.
Solution: Deactivate FaceID and use Touch ID.
Problem: IPhone 'may' not have TouchID as it's been replaced by the more secure FaceID.
Solution: Use a passcode.
Welcome back to 2014!!!!
Its so much easier to point a phone at someones face than grabbing someones fingers to press it on touch id.....no offenseThis is officially the new version of "but someone could just cut your finger off and steal all your banking information from your phone! No touchID for me!"
Or mounted on a car dashboard?I'm just wondering how will it work when the phone is laying on a table.
Send out the invites already!![]()
Touch ID in the power button? leaks have shown the rendered power button has a bigger surface area than the 6/6S/7...

And my Samsung Galaxy S8 has facial recognition AND iris scan options too!
In addition, anyone the has your phone could unlock it simply by holding it up to your face, if it work as the article describes. Law enforcement, would not need a warrant to unlock your phone or even your assistance.
Yeah, I meant how the technology works, how does the camera / phone sense that the phone is on the table, I glance at it and it unlocks, sounds intriguing!
Whats to stop someone taking my phone and pointing it at my face?
