pills, circular cutouts, notches, etc. - they all suck cuz they're blemishes on the display area.

but notches are the worst because they take up the most physical area and are thus the most noticeable. they also ruin the straight edge on the top of the screen. so yeah, this pill/circle will look much better than a dumb notch (and it still might just be one larger pill, if they just black out the area in between).

a thin bezel instead would've been far superior aesthetically (or at least the option to black out the areas to the left & right of the notch, so no content is displayed up there other than system level stuff like the time, battery & other status indicators, etc).

and yeah, another vote for touchID here as well...!! =)

God I hope those renders aren’t true as far as the status bar goes. What a complete waste of space. Apple did nothing with the smaller notch on the 13 Pro models so what was the point in shrinking it at all. And I hope they at least add battery percent on the 14 Pro status bar.

Remember when Apple was revolutionary? It’s been so long, I don’t remember the last “WOW!” I got from an Apple product

You've never used an M1 Mac, then. That's a recent revolutionary jump... to move an entire operating system smoothly to a new architecture and have such huge performance improvements (and no, performance is not just speed, but overall performance, such as battery life).

Honestly I think that the notch is better, and now that the MacBook pros are embracing the notch, I say lets keep it for a while as "Apple Design Language"....this Pill thing with two holes, ugh. The fact there is two rather than one pisses me off.
Yeah they could shrink the notch even more, have a small notch, keep apple design language, and offer more status bar info like battery percent. That pill/hole punch is pretty bad.

Why didn't they do this with the Macs they released, instead of having the notch? There is no consistency between products.

So they have something to change on next years MacBook Pros. Apple does this all the time. It's a business decision.

Is this next? ?

So better wait for at least 6 month or til the iP15 is released. Why? If problems occur, the only fallback for FaceId is entering your PIN, since TouchID is gone.

Can’t tell if you’re trolling but Touch ID is prone to failure when skin is either a little too dry or a little too wet, and I have the newest iPad mini with it built into the side button and it’s so awkward to use that I just end up punching in my code 95% of the time.

Face ID just works. The hate for it honestly baffles me.

the reason why there are so many fans of touchID is because there are many use cases where it's superior to faceID.

touchID is faster to use (doesn't require a screen swipeUp after unlock), can work from any angle, and is unaffected by sunglasses/masks/swelling/etc. touchID also requires an explicit action to authenticate, whereas faceID doesn't really give you a choice. you can also register touchID with multiple users on the same device, which is not possible with faceID.

since there are obviously fans of both technologies, it would be nice to have both for customers to choose from.

So what you're telling me is that iOS 16 won't utilize that top space any better than phones with the notch. Just like they did when they made the notch smaller with the 13. Sweet. Great work Apple.

Nobody here knows that. And even if that was the case, does that really make a difference to the user? Sometimes I think these trivial little issues that others want to blow out of porportion, don’t hold any weight in terms of the iPhone experience

Going to probably be unpopular with this comment but what else is new.

I still think this is far better than having the full notch. Obviously blanked out sections of the screen are not great but this to me still looks like a way more immersive experience then having a full notch. I think people will get used to this even easier then the whole notch if this pill/hole design actually happens. Guess we'll see.

Frankly I deeply miss seeing battery percentage at a glance. As well as other icons there's no longer room for.

What needs to utilize the space? It's fine the way it is. Just steadily shrinking the amount of space consumed by the camera/sensors is welcome.

I still care about this topic about as much as watching golf, which just barely enough to post about it. ;)

If this is real I’m definitely skipping upgrading till they get it right. This is one thing I don’t think they should’ve copied from android phones ?‍♂️?

Maybe it’ll look better in person, but to me the capsule and dot look worse than the single notch on the 13 series. But whatever, I’m sure I’ll buy one.
