Well I have to replace my 11 pro max at some point (as it’s coming to the 3 year replacement cycle I have for the phone) and I am hoping the 14 pro max will not be a weird one… ?

Much ado about nothing. You all will get over it just like the notch it's replacingand keep buying iPhones

is that the Morse code for "N"???

So it's basically "N" for "notch"???

Why don't they do it the other way around?

dot before the dash? (which makes it "A" for "Apple")

I have skin condition so FaceID > TouchID. Apple please let us know battery % and other stuff.

Curious why it's awful, in your opinion? It never....I mean never not works for me. Unless you're talking about in this new mask life, but that won't be a concern when this releases.
Imagine paying with your smartphone.

FaceId:
Move your iPhone next to the reader, then hold the iPhone in front of your face and look at it. Maybe you have to remove your mask before. Awful. Worst user experience.

TouchId:
Move your iPhone next to the reader, put your finger on the TouchID sensor. Perfect!

Apple Watch:
Move your watch close to the reader. Done. Best user experience.

FaceId is the worst option available. Integrated ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are available, but Apple DOESN'T WANT to use em. There is no such thing like Apple couldn't use em or that those sensors are not safe enough. It is a marketing/business decision, like using the outdated/slow lightning connector. Apple fears to lose control (lightning connector control is secured using the MFI program).

Security wise TouchID is worse in some situations. Someone grabs your phone while you’re sleeping, unconscious or whatever, apply your finger, access to your stuff. Can’t happen if you have FaceID needing your attention to unlock.
No need to argue it….I like it, you don’t. We’re still both alive.

Not getting a new iPhone until they replace the lightning port with USB-C. It’s time to lose the spaghetti of cables we have in our bags.

well, if you're gonna argue that then the reverse is true for when you're awake - somebody can grab your phone, shove it in front of your face to activate faceID, then run away with it unlocked. that's unlikely to happen with touchID since they'd have to forcibly apply your (correct) finger to authenticate, which is much more difficult. also, your scenario wouldn't work for those who wake up when touched while sleeping anyway.

this argument is dumb - both technologies have their advantages and fans, so it would be great if future iPhones would just incorporate both. =)

I don't mean any harm, but sounds like user error. Have them remove all faces and train again. It's FaceID, so when the phone comes on, it's looking for a face. In your case with it laying flat on a table, why are you expecting it to work unless you are looking down at it.
Dude, I didn’t say I am expecting it to work laying down. I’m saying it WON’T work laying down, but would if I could just scan my print Instead. And I would have to pick up the phone when I don’t need to.

And yes, with those users, it it likely user error, but again that’s the point,it doesn’t work well if people can’t figure out how it works after years of using it.

Dude, it’s a trade off and use case dictates the benefits of one verses the other. When cooking and my hands are messy, phone laying flat on a table…forget about getting in with TouchID, can’t read print. In those cases, FaceID is exceptional. Not sure if you’re familiar with the term PEBKAC. If someone can’t figure something out doesn’t mean the technology is lacking.

Have a good day man….iPhone bros for life.

Someone takes your phone and holds it in front of your face - BAM. Unlock ... You see that this discussion is nonsense? FaceID user experience is super bad when using ApplePay in a store. It was awful while wearing a mask - new FaceID that works while wearing a mask, kills security ...

iPhoneSE3 could have been a good start. Imagine an SE without FaceID (cheaper) but with fulll display and an of the shelf ultrasonic fingerprint reader. This would have been an instant buy for lots of people and maybe this is one of Apples biggest fears.

I get it, but in your cooking example, you're not going to use your phone with dirty, wet or sticky fingers, right? So, you have to clean them regardless. I guess for my uses, I over and over just find TouchID on the side button would be better, for me.

If you are going to have cutouts the notch is a more consistent design. The asymmetry is distracting, and holes will make full screen content look worse.
The cut outs will resemble the speaker and front camera on the iPhone 4/4s , and the rest of the iPhone 14 pro/max (frame, flush camera’ s, glas sandwich design) Will be based upon the design of the iPhone 4s. I don’ t think this is a coincidence.

With the right wallpaper, the iPhone 14 pro will look like a big iPhone 4s.

Can we please forget FaceID altogether and just have TouchID on the side button? Please? FaceID is awful.
I wish they would give both. I like Touch better for getting new apps and paying but the rest Face. Anything that you have to do the clunky double press for I like better with touch.

I want to be able to unlock my phone without looking at it.
Yes with touch I can just double tap as I remove the phone from my pocket, and it is already unlocked. And can also do similar paying. I can double tap and hold as I move the phone to the reader, and ding done. No making sure the phone is pointed toward my face
