I've got to admit that Face ID is a pain in the ass during the pandemic, even with the ability to unlock it with the Apple Watch (which works 25% of the time).

Bring back Touch ID, but under the display, and I'll be a happy camper...

In my case it works like 125% of the time. Why 125%? Because it doesn’t fail when I need it… and it also works when I don’t. Like if I barely touch the screen while trying to pocket it.

Yes the notch is indeed abhorrent to many.

But the notch is actually there to increase screen real estate without increasing the device size.

So the question really is, is that tiny bit of extra screen real estate worth so much that we should put up with the notch?

No.

Disagree. The screen is now larger than 16:9. The extra real estate allows for an actual rectangle on videos. Should the notch be gone and the screen 16:9, you’d have rounded corners. That’d be an actual violation of form factor and usability.

I'd love it if they could get both FaceID AND TouchID under the screen. Would be awesome to have both options to choose from on the fly!

“Apple changes mind last minute, sticks with narrow notch found on iPhone 13 due to global supply chain issues. Pill shape rumours were prototypes and strong contender for iPhone 14 redesign. Apple Design and Engineering full focus on under the screen solutions for biggest redesign iPhone has seen since introduction of notch for iPhone 15. Ultra cycle expected, Apple first becoming a 4 trillion dollar company. Apple releases iPhone cloth for $25 compatible with all Apple products, especially notchless iPhone screen”.

I had to return the 13 Pro because I hated the notch so much (among other reasons). On my 7 until they release something without a stupid screen shape.

All these fake rumours to get clicks are getting annoying.
Tech company’s still struggling to achieve good results with an under display camera - so if I already wrote in one of the first news about this iPhone 14 rumour - tell me how the Face ID sensors should work under a Display?
Apple wouldn’t shrink down the notch in the iPhone 13 to keep it only for one year. This makes no sense.
Of course they will internally have prototypes with different layouts (pull hole, punch hole, etc), but we won’t see anything of this in the iPhone 14.

I don’t understand the point of the pill or pinhole cutouts. It’s not like the extra screen space between the bezel and the punch out is usable in anyway. If I’m missing something, pease let me know.

I will hang on to my iPhone 12 Pro Max a little longer. I prefer all screen, maybe one day the MacBook Pro will get the same makeover.

Here comes the barrage of people saying how the notch doesn’t bother them and how they don’t notice it at all therefore no change is necessary.

Even though them bezels on previous iPhone generations never bothered anyone who don’t visit sites like these either.

Those bezels were still complained about though until we got the notched ‘bezel-less’ displays that they’re now happy with, yet those same people don’t seem to understand why there’s others who don’t want it there and would much prefer a uniform display (meaning zero cut-outs on every side of it) instead.
Yes, all those who say they are not bothered by the Notch, or don't even see it etc... they will be the first people in line at the Apple store once a Notchless iphone is finally released.

Happens every year. Rumors of there being a smaller notch, never happens. No one wanted to listen when I pointed out it took 3 years to reduce the notch 20%, why would Apple nearly remove all of it the next year?

I've never had Face ID with Apple Watch fail. it works almost too well sometimes

If this is true there is not really something to wait for this year. So go ahead and buy an iPhone 13 right now!

I’m sorry but I’m just not buying it. I know Apple is seeking for making improvements but it makes no sense if we are expecting a pill cutout later this year. It won‘t happen making a new Face ID this year and the whole new next year. So either rumors about iPhone 14 are false or about iPhone 15

fingerprint under display is the future
Imagine thinking deliberately resting a finger on the display while it scans is ever meant to replace what we have now which is simply: looking at it.

Do you know that this "rumor" predates the iPhone X??? Do you know what Greg Joswiak said about under screen Touch ID after iPhone X was released? "We never even considered it".

The only false rumors are the ideas that any of it is ever going to be magically "under the display". This is simply tech fantasy.

Apple is simply miniaturizing components, which happens as mature technology gets older, which enables new styles of cut out/notch.

I doubt this 2022 and 2023 iPhone 14/15 rumor because why Apple makes iPhone 14 with hole and pill cut-out design change and very next year changes again to under screen faceID for iPhone 15 ? Apple may continue iPhone 14 design changes to iPhone 15 and than iPhone 16 may get under screen faceid or it may very well happens on iPhone 14. Any thought ?

This rumor is not even remotely believable. Anyone who thinks Apple will put two different opening on the front face of their beloved iPhone is drunk. Why would they ever remove the notch to implement such an abomination.

Am I the only one that really, at the end of the day, simply does not even notice or care about the notch area all that much?
