I have been on all beta versions of 14.5 and am now on 14.6 b2. Not once have I been asked if I allowed tracking by any single app, and I open Facebook and Instagram daily. Has everyone rlse got the ATT dialog boxes? Did Apple only implement them on the release version of 14.5? Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask…

Anybody with half a brain wouldn't even believe what Facebook is saying. The number of users disabling tracking will be in extreme minority as the bulk of Facebook users are through the PC browser and Android. Facebook wouldn't just erect a paywall just for iOS users.

Besides, Facebook already got a lot of your info just by what you uploaded to them. The tracking part is just cherry for them.

Please charge! Then we’ll see how many people actually stick around. It would be good to get another platform in the mix and take away the monopoly here

I despise Facebook but it’s no surprise that it’s either serving ads or you pay. gotta make money. Not defending FB here but goes for a lot of places.

This very website uses ads to make money. Have you actually seen how many trackers MR contacts? It’s a lot…. Safari blocked 40 trackers that MR uses. If people block those ads then MR needs to look at alternatives. Could be a subscription and I’m sure plenty of people would pay. Many other forums i visit have a a subscription.

anyway, when this “educational screen” appears how easy is it for a user to enable tracking? Does the app take you to the setting or do users need to go look for it? If FB can make it easy for people then unfortunately i see most people enabling it. If the user has to spend more than 5 seconds looking for it then likely they will just ignore it. Look at what happened with the WhatsApp privacy update. There was a big kick up about that but it seems nobody cares and just accepted the new terms. Most people arent interested when they see this stuff and just want to use the app there and then.

i hope Apple makes sure than users have to manually go into settings themselves and do it and doesnt let FB give them a shortcut directly to that specific setting.

as for making FB a paid service. I would genuinely love to see that! i reckon it’s just scare tactics cause it would be suicide for them. Im sure there are plenty of people who would happily pay but lots of people would ditch it so damn fast.

i dream of seeing FB wiped from the face of earth and respect apple for making this move
Safari is telling me that it blocked 53 trackers from profiling me.

Even with them threatening the "free" I still won't allow it. Let them try to charge and see how quickly they turn into myspace (and they went down without even charging).

It still amazes me that people want things for free but then complain about how much free costs.
Not sure if I have this right, but on Instagram, for instance, those who are influencers or companies posting their goods are the ones who are complaining, right? Shouldn't they be the ones who pay? They advertise their goods and get free stuff from being popular. Since when is advertising free? I'm a looker. I browse/like posts and don't post anything. Why should I pay? Not to mention, I have to endure the sponsored posts in-between the real posts so in effect, IG is getting paid.

Just show generic ads like Adsense does for things we’ll never buy or use. Advertiser still has to pay for impressions.

They are still going to have ads, but they just don’t get to track me. I say to hell with them, it’s creepy as hell that they follow what I’m doing anyway.
Creepy? Howso. It’s really convenient when they send me ads that are exactly about the kinds of things that interest me. What’s wrong with that. Ive found lots of useful stuff without even having to search for it.

Zuc, is desperate. I love it.
FB is crap that I abandoned years ago.
I like Instagram but could very well live without it.
So he is in a corner. If he charges for it, both platforms will die very quickly.

Target adds are useless anyway, tried them a few times, did not work. Might as well advertise on MySpace, it's the future of facebook anyway.

The number of people on macrumors forum hating Facebook feels like a lot, but I doubt it. Also, just because Facebook dies, doesn’t mean social platform will die as well. Tons of dating apps out there, smaller more specialised platforms are also there. Given enough time, another Facebook will emerge. History will always run in circles.

I really don’t get Facebook’s logic.
Even if I disable tracking, I still get to see ads. That means Facebook still gets money from advertisers. It doesn’t matter if the ads is personalized or not. The idea of personalized ads is only benefiting Facebook as they can charge businesses more money for so-called premium targeting.

If Apple blocked any ads from 3rd party apps completely, then Facebook has a claim. This is not the case.

This is like one of those phony “chain” posts your 70 year old grandmother tags you in saying if you don’t share you’ll be charged…

I would love it if they started charging for Facebook it would be a great way for me to never use it ever again and I have wanted a reason to break the addiction

I've been sober since 2013...watching everyone around still making excuses and indulging in this FBS is heartbreaking.
