All this trust, verification and privacy activity from META and Twitter make Apple look like visionaries again, taking the lead on legitimizing digital driver’s licenses, wallets, and vaccine cards years ago.

The future of online privacy and verification is looking increasingly dystopian and bleak. But if I have to trust at least one mega corporation to safeguard my identity in the future, Apple has a clear lead in my opinion.

Revenue stream for loss of data through advertising due to privacy restrictions biting & bringing a new way to collect more data at the same time. All of this in plain sight.

Meta should have at least put the price at $9.99. That "penny under" trick still works like the day it was invented.

this is inevitable. I would have suggested $9.99 for iOS/GooglePlay and $7.99 on-line.
Also, $.99 per month for anyone that wants to subscribe without Ad's. While still 100% free to anyone that just wants to view stuff and post, but with the Ad's.

There just aren’t enough lol emojis for this.

Zuckerberg does know that most of us just use FB to interact with a small circle of close friends?

I used to like Facebook but it's now mostly just ads that are prioritized over anything that I might actually want to see. The only two things I use it for are posting occasional funny pictures/memes and watching cat videos. Of all of the "friends" I have on Facebook, I actually care about five of them.

I guess that Zuck either isn't getting enough money from all of the ads and he needs a new cash stream, or he is just trying to emulate Twitter. I wouldn't pay Facebook a single cent, even if the entire service went subscription only.

  • A verified badge, confirming you're the real you and that your account has been authenticated with a government ID.
Fine, but Facebook should really do this anyways.

  • More protection from impersonation with proactive account monitoring for impersonators who might target people with growing online audiences.
This should be done anyways.

  • Help when you need it with access to a real person for common account issues.
Facebooks support has always sucked, this should be free

  • Increased visibility and reach with prominence in some areas of the platform- like search, comments and recommendations.
Paying for visibility? This is just stupid.

  • Exclusive features to express yourself in unique ways.
Funny exclusive stickers and graphics?
Nah, I’m good.
There’s nothing worse than businesses withholding something as essential as features customer service and safety tools against identity theft and branding it as premium features that you only get for a fee.

I’m sorry. But there’s no way I buy the idea that any Facebook/Meta owned platform hasn’t been making billions on user data for decades and no way Meta won’t continue to do so in the future

-Were not paying to be the product while you also get to harvest user data and make money off that.

Only way to do this somewhat fairly would be if the $14.99 lets you opt out of all the data harvesting and have you use Meta and Facebook in complete privacy (except for interaction with other users).

Zuck must really be hurtin’ for a squirtin’(of money) to think this is a good value proposition for anyone.

If you're still looking at Facebook on a computer, there is always FB Purity. That will take care of ads and a whole bunch of other Facebook nonsense.

Hard Pass.

In reality, the whole thing about blue checkmarks was a way to censor the anonymous accounts from having their voice heard. Can you imagine people with blue checkmarks getting doxx'd via phone and credit card billing info? In the name of "free speech," they are essentially preventing it.

On Twitter every 10 follower troll with blue tick thinks they are even more important now. It encourages them to harass people who don’t buy one. They think it puts them above everyone. It’s an affiliate marketing scam.

Totally LAME. I removed this poisonous battery draining sucking app from my phone 3 years ago.
Elon's mess of Twitter will remove or change their 2FA for anyone who doesn't shell up $8 for Twitter Blue. 🙄 Another brain dead move from a dying platform.

SO BEYOND TIRED of social media, it's old!

Shouldn't social media have a responsibility to protect user accounts and prevent hacking. Facebook is going to allow hacking as an incentive to get people to pay $12.00 a month to waste time and be constantly harassed by people in comments. Facebook is not going to put in any effort at all to ever make Facebook more secure.

I hope nobody does this and it blows up in his face. Facebook started off as a nice way to keep connected with people and now it's just a giant cluster of people arguing and making fun of each other. Its a cesspool of disfunction and is only going to get worse as Facebook only cares about the paid accounts.

so desperate. What’s next? 99 Cent for password resets? Each.

Hell would have to break for me to upload my ID to a social media platform

In Philip K Dick’s Ubik there was a future in which people are paying micropayments to the doors of their own house. And the doors talk. If anyone tries to make that a reality please throw that MF off a cliff especially if they are backed by a16z.

Oh, I'm barely on facebook. I do mean barely. This is just a suggestion that he should have come up with (IMO).
There are those of us that don't like Ad's but, they help pay the bills. So if you don't like them. Then pay .99 a month to make them go away. If you have other means to block the Ad's (as you suggested), then that works too. But, works against how facebook generates income. Unfortunately, it's' not free to run the service. And I very much get most people don't like Mark Z. Or even for that matter Elon. But, no matter who/whom runs these companies. They have to make money to provide what they do. Either in Ad revenue or directly by subscribers.

Neither of these companies are going to hire hundreds or thousands of people to "protect" users data or identity. The Ai version of that is coming soon I'm sure. Which still costs money to create and maintain. But, isn't "here" yet.
We all know all the money they make they try their best to keep, so whatever is the shortest path to that end is what they will inevitably pick.
