Will all these signaling the end (or downtrend) of social media altogether? Personally I closed my FB account back in 2016. IG is still there but pretty much inactive. For Twitter, I posted less and less over the last year. With the shutdown of Twitter API last month, I didn't even bother to check my feeds since (due to no access for third party app). I just refused to use the official Twitter app or webapp.

And you guys thought Elon was a moron for charging $9.99 for verified accounts. So many people don’t know anything about entrepreneurship.

Maybe if Zuck had not lost $13 billion on his failed VR experiment (trying to be a hardware guy instead of a privacy-invading ad salesman), he would not have to charge his users for verification.

Such entrepreneurship!!

So they want their users to pay for a service that gets around a problem they have with their platform and refuse to fix? Good luck with that.

“…Currently, businesses are not eligible for Meta Verified, and Meta Verified only supports users who post under their real names. After being verified, users will not be able to update their usernames, date of birth, or profile picture without going through the verification process again, meaning Meta will likely regularly collect this sensitive data from users and make it impossible for now for verified users to post anonymously…”

Nope no way they are gonna get that info from me…

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg over the weekend announced the upcoming launch of a new "Meta Verified" subscription service that's designed for Facebook users, which will provide verification for $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on the iPhone or the iPad.

Zuckerberg described Meta Verified as a subscription that lets individuals verify an account with a government ID, get a bluebadge, and get "extra impersonation protection" against accounts that are "claiming to be you." It also comes with "direct access to customer support, exclusive stickers, and a news release describing the feature says that it will include "access to increased visibility and reach." A full list of announced features:
All this could be avoided if people would just stop handing over their personal identity to big corporations. I don't do Farcebook, Twitter or any of the other social media nonsense.

I have no opinion (mostly) here either way. I’m just here to enjoy the show to be perfectly honest. But paying for any social media platform just isn’t my thing regardless of who’s running the show.

I like the idea of just deleting Facebook and have people just use good old SMS or iMessage to get a hold of me. I don't understand the need to have a third party app do what the built in apps do good at already.

Ya..thing is I don't pay $8 for twitter features. I pay $8 to support free speech. Facebook is not that.
Let’s be real here - I’m assuming your make this statement because you agree with Elon‘s snake oil and what he considers to be “free speech.” Hey, if that’s the hill you want to plant your flag on, feel free. But spare us, he’s proven time and time again he isn’t about anything that remotely involves “free speech,” especially if he disagrees with it.

But he’s apparently done a good job at convincing some of his agenda.

This is bad. But this is Zuckerberg.

It could have been worse.

They could have forced you to buy en-ef-tees.

They integrated en-ef-tees into IG a few months ago.

Didn't work. Nobody gave a damn. Nobody trusts crypto.

His dictator loving tech bro friends who ran Twitter and Reddit tried to force crypto and en-ef-tees down users throats.

Didn't work. Nobody gave a damn. Nobody trusts crypto.

So they have to charge subscriptions on these platforms now.

They want you to make the content and pay to prove you are you.

Totally con artists. The 1% who tried so hard to own all the wealth and assets in the world really just want to be the 0.1% who own all the wealth and assets in the world.

Break them up otherwise they will make life hell for everyone.

Absolutely disgusting that you should have to pay just to verify who you are.

The whole point of verification is to enhance security, so the fact they’re choosing to monetise such a feature is makes my blood boil.

OH NOES.

THE MERDAVERSE FAILED.

We better force our users to pay money.
