Shouldn't social media have a responsibility to protect user accounts and prevent hacking. Facebook is going to allow hacking as an incentive to get people to pay $12.00 a month to waste time and be constantly harassed by people in comments. Facebook is not going to put in any effort at all to ever make Facebook more secure.

I hope nobody does this and it blows up in his face. Facebook started off as a nice way to keep connected with people and now it's just a giant cluster of people arguing and making fun of each other. Its a cesspool of disfunction and is only going to get worse as Facebook only cares about the paid accounts.
My Facebook is strictly limited to some friends and family .
I had ad blockers
Anything that look like an ad "sponsored content" etc gets killed
Anything that Facebook toys to pretends its from someone you know (easy to spot) gets killed
"People you know" gets emptied
Their junk video shorts ket killed

And I spend about 5 minutes a day on it and I am on no other social media platforms, and I rarely post anything.

Totally LAME. I removed this poisonous battery draining sucking app from my phone 3 years ago.
Elon's mess of Twitter will remove or change their 2FA for anyone who doesn't shell up $8 for Twitter Blue. 🙄 Another brain dead move from a dying platform.

SO BEYOND TIRED of social media, it's old!

I prefer OTP it's more private than giving them your phone number since SMS texts are too easily intercepted by hackers.

They should force everyone to pay so maybe then people would stop using this trash. Facebook needs to die.

You couldn't pay me to use Facebook or Instagram or WhatsApp. The sooner META dies the better. So I welcome this plan of theirs to start charging because it's only going to push more people away from them.

Meanwhile they pull this BS on pages Six whole new people seeing it and ignoring it, who could refuse?

Remember back in the day, how there were signs of MySpace’s imminent demise? We’re now seeing the beginning of the end for Facebook. Which is great. There’s a prime opportunity right now for a group to begin developing the next generation of social media and connection, and have it be one that doesn’t spark universal hatred for the platform. Not that I think something that pure would pan out—but the world can hope.

So do you still have to see the ads? Wtf is the point of paying $12 a month and still seeing ads? If it would remove the ads, I’d honestly consider it cuz the ads on both are just horrendous.

Look for something like Facebook Cleaner plugin

I really hope this is what pushes people to quit Facebook. I'd love to see Facebook burn. It's time for a new kind of social media.

Verify with a government ID? I once had a fake Facebook account and one day it was locked and Facebook asked me for an ID to unlock it. So I photoshopped an ID, sent it to Facebook and they really unlocked my account.

The trick with photoshopping an ID is making it look like a low quality photo, so that the imperfections of the fake ID are not visible.

Truly hilarious.

As awful as Twitter Blue.

I'm just so pleased other than the early days of Facebook from 2007-2011 I never really got into social media.

Some people will pay for this and I pity them.

On the other hand I'm more than happy to pay for YouTube, to help monetise good quality videos with actual content like tech reviews.

If Facebook felt like it had any value maybe I'd pay for it too?

This probably makes more sense on Instagram, but it sounds like this will be a separate subscription from Facebook. I don’t use any Meta products, but I thought they would have a “universal” verification that worked on all of their platforms.

Will this become the new norm? Does Meta keep the government ID in their files, which would have my home address on it? Or is this done through a third party? Either way, if they got hacked, can you imagine the problems with having government ID information exposed?

Yes they're getting worse on FB. I like chess, but I don't need like 40 in a short period and the same one over and over with no new comments on it. And how many sets of D&D Dice does one need LOL

Verified accounts can also get you into trouble. Imagine your comment is against the law. If you are verified, you not defend yourself by saying "That is not my account!".

I also would never use my real name on any social network.
