And the fragmentation continues.

In fairness, I think this is going to be different enough from Android that it shouldn't even be viewed as another example of Android being fragmented. Just like how the Kindle Fire was an Amazon product. This isn't a Google phone, it's a Facebook phone.

Don't think Apple was looking to make iAds into a viable revenue stream.

As the weren't looking to make iAds into a viable revenue stream Jobs saying that they would have 50% of mobile advertising marketshare was only a joke

----------

they will not take specific content extracted from emails and attach it to your name and sell that as a data mining package. but what they do is extract, categorize, and sell a data analysis to advertisers as sales pitches of "why you should advertise with google" and offer specific tailored advertisement packages that allow companies to then acquire the data themselves via click-through ads and cookie tracking advertising

proclaiming Google's innocence in the debate of online privacy, is in effect ignoring the elephant in the room

They don't sell any data analysis. Please, stop spreading FUD

----------

No intention of earning anything significant.

Then, Jobs was joking?

the irony in your statement wreaks - Google is a data mining company disguised as an innovative software services tech company. the products and software innovation they provide are merely mechanisms to acquire information about you. the company's foundation is made up of mostly advertising revenue. the problem isn't that they are selling it to data mining companies, they themselves ARE the problem

does Google 411 ring a bell? remember how in the beginning they weren't telling people that they were data mining our voices for voice recognition development? someone blew the whistle or figured out they were recording the entire thing and then Google started announcing it at the beginning of each call. when Google got the voice data they needed, they pulled the plug on the service all together.

do you think Gmail is their form of the Second Bill of Rights where every person should be entitled to a free 10GB email account just for being a human being? you think that the pathetic side ads on the Gmail page are the reason for Gmail existing? Google is acquiring much more than just email content data about you - they are gathering email behavior data, features interaction data, the list goes on that not even you or any of us could ever find out

It's all evidence. Google now searches your emails, so it shows that they have obviously been researching.

if it's true, how did they manage to avoid any leaks on the contrary of apple :D

Another me too or something more? that's my question. If its just another cheap low end android that won't ever get version upgrades (which I get the feeling it will be) then it will fail. Problem is the main Facebook market is teens with no money!

No intention of earning anything significant. iAds is about making iOS more appealing to the consumer. This is to be accomplished by having the ads be less annoying and intrusive, all the while making the ads that people do click on more feature-rich and enjoyable.

So, you're saying that Apple's iAd is just as consumer-hostile and exploitative as Google's ad business?

You can't seriously believe this!
How Apple manages its data gathering techniques and processes can greatly differ from Google and Facebook, but Apple was 100% trying to get into the very lucrative advertising game. Don't drink the Apple koolaid thinking that iAds was just a service to consumers. That's naivity at its finest.

So Apple got into the advertising business with no intention of earning revenue?

You can't seriously believe this.

Yeah right.
They're making billions in the media business, as we all know.

And "corporate strategies", that stupid stuff, who needs that anyway.

Whether a new app or a device I think FB's getting desperate but fair play for trying.

Feels like an iTunes/Motorola rockr moment.

Given that there are millions of dumba$$ FB users out there and this rumoured FBPhone is geared at the lower end of the phone technology, I think that it will be successful. It's a product geared to the right audience. Apple will not need to worry until the day when Apple also wants to go after that dumba$$ consumer group.

People are already becoming restless and wanting to leave. The only reason people are still on Facebook is because everyone else is a member. This would have sold a ton around 2008-2009.

Me and my wife have left about a year ago, don't miss it, real friends still around :)

Yeah, right... lets get a cellphone from the same company that's trying to make its money by selling our private information, spying on us, and has such a shady record of reliability, efficiency and honesty... I just wonder what could go wrong?!?!?

Great idea, Zuckerberg!

A "stripped-down version of Android" in the same vain as Amazon's? No thanks.

Even worse, Facebook will be collecting a lot of data from its phone users, which is really concerning.

You may find Facebook already have a lot of data about the users that own phones, Google has a hell of a lot, and if you buy into the Apple Ecosystem, Apple knows more about you then you do ;)

At present, Microsoft probably knows the least about you.... times change eh...

don't sign up to Facebook.

Exactly. All us old farts can complain, though the young ones that love FB will buy into it. Could be big.

Facebook Phone buyers are just paying Facebook for their Facebook page, why would anyone be this stupid?

Well, before social-sites like FB or MySpace, lots of people paid their ISP just to have their own personal webpage/domain. And FB is just the next company in line who wants to make more money out of that.
