Both unbelievably hilarious and desperately sad in equal measure.

The socially-retarded Zuckerberg is obsessed by the word 'social' and this latest acquisition of a 13-person company with zero revenue (oooh they've got a lot of users sharing photos, let's buy them) just demonstrates his, and his company's lack of originality and intelligence, not to mention paranoia. This isn't Google buying YouTube, it's more like McDonalds buying Fatburger.

I'll call it now, in 5 years' time, Facebook will be all but a footnote in online history and we'll look back and see this impulsive acquisition as a panic purchase, a $1BN white elephant that marked the beginning of the end. Hopefully.

I can't stand Zuckerberg. You'll enjoy this video though;

I think you are missing the point on this.
Instagram is a place to share pictures, where people follow others and look at their pictures. What other service is like this? Pinterest.
All you need to add to instagram is links to places (real stores), and urls for websites or online stores, and you have a pinterest killer.
Something that is not 90% of women using it.

why them, theres so many apps the same, apple should buy rangers football club, that would be interesting:D

wow! I might not use instagram anymore! The only reason i used instagram was to get away from the madness of facebook! :D

LOL, post of the day...

That does explain why facebook was willing to pay one billion dollars (pinky in mouth) for it.

Read the entire article, it explains that they will remain completely separate.

I was going to reply to this by mocking you, but I see that's already been well done :D.... so I'll thow a curve here and answer you straight (sotra)...

There's a difference between making a claim and explaining something. The big Zuck says they'll keep Instagram independant of Facebook, but provides no real reasons why. E.g., if you can just flip a few words in a statement and just as complellingly make the opposite argument, it's not a very strong argument:

Below I quote Bizzaro Zuck's parallel statement from the other side of the sun with differences shown:
We believe these are different experiences that complement each other. ButAnd in order to do this well, we need to be mindful about keeping and building on Instagram's strengths and features byrather than just trying to integrate everything into Facebook.

That's why we're committed to building and growing Instagram independently. Millions of people around the world love the Instagram app and the brand associated with it, and our goal is to help spread this app and brand to even more people.

for those who would like to replace.

Camera+ or Camera Awesome = Camera Replacement

6x6 or Hipstamatic = Square Replacement

Snapseed, Photoforge2, Filterstorm, PS Express, Phototoaster = Post-Processing

Stampzz = Photo Sharing Community (Can share to Facebook and Twitter)

don't really know how I feel about this. honestly, even though I have only been using Instagram for about a year, this somehow feels like Instagram users "won the game". As someone who does enjoys social networking, it almost feels like we should move on and start a new networking revolution elsewhere. That is why I bring up Stampzz. It is an application that is truly dedicated to photo sharing, no filters offered, but you can upload any size or crop of an image. I am no affiliated with the developers at all, but I think it shows promise as a place to share photos in the future. Instagram may be just fine, but if it becomes overloaded with ads, or god-knows-what from FB, it will see users abandon it just as rapidly.

Only time will really tell. Until then, everyone, especially iPhone users who have had Instagram for a while, should enjoy the arsenal of photography apps the App Store offers. Regardless of your feelings about mobile photography, mobile editing is fascinating and the user interfaces for the applications are absolutely top notch and a lot of the features will make their way to your desktop computer eventually. Utilizing these apps, if nothing else will at least improve your Instagram photos, for those of you who continue with the platform. Enjoy!

I don't have a Facebook account and I sure hope instagram doesn't become all Facebooky. If it does, I may have to drop it.

I will also be deleting my Instagram account. I do not like or trust Facebook or Zuckerberg.

Facebook feared them. They feared there being another player in the market who was gathering massive numbers of users. So they bought them, not the technology.
So rather than innovate and 'create' something new and even better - the vulture capitalist corporation simply purchased the competitor. Just another day in the Corporate States of America

I dont know the developer of original Instagram is a small group of persons, or a firm/company. But I would sell it too for $1 billion, damn I could make or buy anything with that. I could even stop making apps for the rest of my life
