I've had the phone since launch 9/25, and just yesterday I picked it up and it was very warm and I had lost 20% battery in like 1 hour sitting idle. I turned it off and it cooled down. I then checked , and FB had consumed a ton of battery usage. Hasn't happened since then, and only that one time so far.

exact same thing happened to me, i thought i had a faulty phone

As luck would have it I updated FB yesterday before reading this thread. Today FB used over 40% of my battery and had logged 1.5 hours of screen time yet I wasn't on it.
I've had my 6s plus since launch day and have typically 50% battery left by bed time. Today it's down to 24% as of now. I'm going to delete FB I think unless someone knows a better way to stop this.

You need to check and watch all your App.s my AirMore was using a lot of my battery even when it was not being used, turned it off till i need it and battery was again normal. Feel this gos for all App.s many work in the back ground all the time.

I never installed the Facebook app and my 6s plus battery life is amazing... I just use the website when I want to check it.

People need to understand even as facebook is a great program,it is really designed to get information to many companies to sell products and services.
This is where facebook makes it's money. Nothing wrong with them making money, they keep facebook online.
But knowing the fasebook App.s are working differently then the online program, is important to understand their high battery uses reported.

I use Paper instead of the official Facebook app and often charge my phone every other day with no problem at all. I am really loving the battery life on this puppy!

I use Paper instead as well. Even though it may not be as feature rich, I don't seem to have any overt battery issues from it. Then again, I also quit it and close the app in the background after each use.

Why is the Facebook app getting so many pages devoted to it here? It's a non-Apple app and it needs to be fixed, by Facebook. They obviously have some covert data-mining thing going on and have been found out by iOS9's new battery stats.
It could of course just be a bug, but knowing Facebook I very much doubt it. Their app has been blatantly going against the wishes of its userbase for years now.

Yeah, I agree. When I read how FB drains your phone before I got the 6s plus I decided then and there not to download it.

Like many. I'll wait until people say it's not ripping battery to shreds, and then install it. Until then I just go to the facebook page on Safari, and send the page to main screen so it has the F logo and I'll use that as my entry point.

Here's mine. It's always this high.

Facebook is notorious for this. The app has been just as bad for ages now. Plus, it has a habit of saving every bit of data that comes through it into the app itself. I've seen customers who use the Facebook app a lot roll up for an upgrade after 2 years with 10GB of data being hogged by Facebook. The app itself is only 80mb in size.

There's an entire article on iMore.com about it. It's such a badly optimised app.

Yeah and it doesn't help that it it gets updated every two weeks!

You're right. When I close the Facebook app and adjust volume it goes back to the normal ringer volume. When the Facebook app is opened and in background and volume is adjusted, it just says volume.

If you go into settings within the Facebook app, you can turn sounds off and that seems to solve the problem videos still play with no problems.

I deleted the app last night, battery much better. I'll just use it through the web for now.

On which version are we talking about? i'm using v40.0 and in the last 24 there hasn't been any background activity,
also my Background app refresh is off for all apps.

FB has additional settings within the app to handle the auto-play. May want to tweak those, too.

Leave a one star review on Facebook's App Store page and put 'battery drain' in the title. If enough people do this then word will get around and they'll be forced to do something about it. Whilst you're at it you can complain about 'most recent' not being the default newsfeed setting.

They have already admitted to it and have stated they are working on a fix. Did you not see the link in one of the previous posts on this page or the article on the front page of this site.

Yes I did but people still appear to be moaning about it.:p

Well people are going to voice their concern until it is fixed. That's normal. My point was you're telling people to give them bad reviews so they will be forced to do something about it when they have already admitted it's an issue and are working on a fix.

Their app deserves more one star reviews anyway. They never listen to their userbase, we're just pawns solely there to mine data from and advertise to.
