Seems like not a lot of love for the Zuckbot here 😁 I seriously can not wait until Facebook gets hauled in front of every government on the planet for all the bait and switch tactics they have used over the years to violate their own privacy policies and stifle competition by gobbling up or outright copying competitors. I dumped Facebook years ago when they started filling my feed with everything I couldn't give two shi%s about and don't miss it one iota.

Zuckerberg sounds like a brewery in the prohibition era. Yup, that commodity is no longer for sale.
Companies like Google/Amazon can still survive because they still do make products that sell like cloud services, cloud storage, online store meanwhile FB just deals in one commodity and thats your privacy.

He still have time to sell all that FB stock and retire as a billionaire, why is he fighting so hard? I guess he realized his name will go down in history as one of the ethically worst tech. entrepreneurs of all time.

Albeit that iMessage is bundled with iPhone is a good arguement, sounds like the MS explorer thing with Netscape, in addition iMessage auto turns on when I am talking to another person on SMS if they have iPhone. I didn't signup for this!

EDIT: Dude has like a $100B , what are you complaining about!?

Nice deflection by Zuckerberg. He sounds like he is trying to sic the Feds on Apple for having too much power. I hope it backfires. Zuckerberg has proven what a **** he is over and over and over.

Mark is probably the most hated person in the tech industry now. Were it not for a specific cancer group that I belong to, I really could care less about facebook but since it’s terminal, I try to follow along with that otherwise I would drop facebook like a hot potato. I do stay off of it as much as possible though.

I quit FB in 2016 and haven't looked back. I think I heard somewhere recently FB's active user numbers are declining. I hope this is true and I hope the trend continues. Apple's privacy policies are one of the biggest reasons I stay in their ecosystem and I don't think I'm alone on this, even if it is all just a marketing tactic.

Is their a resource I can read that would explain the downside of targeted ads? It's a little creepy ya. I google stuff for ski goggles and magically my FB ads are ski related stuff. Is that really a bad thing though? That is what I am interested in at that moment and I understand that by not paying anything directly to use their service this is how they make their money.

Is there any real harm is allowing it to continue?
FB has always gone beyond just what you searched for. Their iOS app opened a background process as an "audio player" so in the process it was actually tracking your location. The HTC phone the Facebook One had the worst battery life of any Android phone and when HTC requested that FB make changes to their app, Zucc said f*ck them they can charge their battery multiple times a day. The phone was tracking the user at all times and users were complaining of 2 to 4 hours battery life. Early iOS versions of FB could kill your battery if you are just sitting on a train not using it.

A company so bereft of conscience and concern for the public good that they’ve happily facilitated the world-wide propagation of lies, half-truths, propaganda, and flat-out hate is now pointing fingers at Apple. Facebook, and Zuckerberg in particular, blithely denied their responsibility in all kinds of horrors, up to and including a genocide of some 24,000 innocent people in Myanmar in 2018 and the nurturing of lie-based hate groups right here in the U.S. that led to the Capital riots. And now he’s using the language of selfishness and moral pretense against Apple?

Zuck you Suckerberg. If there existed a hell just for hypocrisy, it should be your first stop on a slow road to oblivion.

How many of y’all would pay Facebook monthly to not receive ads or them not to collect data?
Not FB but if there was another competing service. But the issue is I am only on FB because of my family so getting them to migrate over is the difficult task.

Then when Apple implements this you will be free to click yes, track me and send me ads. For me, it will be a hard no. I understand what you mean but if I want to search for something, say a spur of a minute thing I saw on tv, why does that mean I should be bombarded by ads?

Is Zuck terrible? Yes. Is Facebook horrible? Yes.

Is Zuckerberg right about Apple here? Yes.
No, he isn’t. He is a sniveling little billionaire crybaby. If you want to opt in by saying yes, track me and send me ads, feel free to do so, but by guessing here by all of the posts on Apple’s side, 95% will opt out. Me being one of those that opts out.

I don't think Apple could do advertising if they wanted to. They just seem really bad at those types of services. They're kind of clunky in that often Internet services upgrades requires OS upgrades. I just don't think they're great at whatever that field of tech is called. In fact, they did have iAds for iOS which they abandoned.
Funny you bring up iAds. Look up what happened to it. In short, the Ad Exec they hired to run this department left because Apple is so paranoid about releasing user data that any request requires a sign off from 2 upper managers and 1 board member. Apple has been privacy-aware since Steve Jobs returned and was constantly ask about it in multiple interviews. Multiple quotes came out of these interviews which referenced Apple selling Products and not Data, which cause a bit of Butt Hurt from Eric Schmidt (Google). Don't work Eric got his revenge when he switched the Android phone from the Blackberry design to the iPhone design.

Yep! People forget Apple was on the privacy bandwagon before it was a bandwagon or even cool. Also that this whole thing is not about Apple making it impossible for Facebook to track or get data - they still can but have to disclose exactly what they are getting and the user has to consent.

Is this the first MacRumors post/thread where there is near unanimous agreement? I think so! Love it.

I would pay for a service like Facebook once was, but I can’t stand Mark Zuckerberg and I hate what Facebook did to my friends and relationships, so it’s too late now and they would not get a dime from me if I can help it.

I saw the environment morph. It’s like some weird social experiment that was run by sadistic remnants from Operation Paperclip. People that I’d known for decades had a side come out on FB i had never ever seen in person or on other social media platforms where some of those friendships started in the first place, like email lists or AOL and such.

It started out really sweet and fun. I got to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in years. Then FB kept tweaking it and adding in “features” that over time, cumulatively changed the atmosphere into something increasingly divisive and toxic. And so I left.

Hope this stops Facebook firing lots of car adverts at me after I’ve been looking at car reviews and news.

Sometimes end up seeing more ads in my feed than content.

Guy who made his fortune harvesting data and privacy from users is complaining about a company that values the opposite. Hmm, really torn on who I should side with here...

Why he complaint? He wants to be #1 not just one of the richest..if I have a billion, I would buy an island and name my kingdom and be # 1.. yes I will be big fish in a small pond but I will be #1 and rule my little haven kingdom..kind of like Johny Depp.
