I don't care about privacy, especially not other people's privacy. I do care about FB making people antisocial, which is something the users won't realize. This was a big problem in my social groups maybe 8 years ago, but now people don't use social media like they used to, and it's better.

Also I wanna point out that nobody hated FB until the media started going after them ~5 years ago, despite their product being basically the same as ever. The big tech news sources used to praise that crap.
I beg to differ... remember the Cambridge Analytica scandal and their involvement in the 2016 elections... or the Russians.. New research says Instagram and as well as Facebook were leveraged to spread propaganda.

Social media created the division.

People don't really think for themselves. They selectively amplify messages and concepts that they are fed through socials.
Specifically algorithmic social media (in my view), which Facebook pioneered and has recklessly leveraged for great profit at the expense of everyone.

Being able to connect and keep up with distant friends and family, and find online communities related to your hobbies? Great stuff, fantastic! Telling your algorithms to point a middle-aged userbase to whatever's likely to make them post and browse for hours a day, which inevitably throws them a ton of inflammatory political/conspiracy content? ...Not great.

If you take away the algorithms and just show people a linear semi-random feed of content from people they're friends with, you'd fix a lot of problems.

Last year, I wrote about how Apple can help kill Facebook by embedding social features inside of iOS and undercut Facebook's ad revenue business and some on this forum thought I was nuts. Well, Apple has done just that and Zuckerberg has since shown his desperation, buying ads in major newspapers trying to turn public opinion against Apple's privacy measures and then finally coming to terms that Facebook has to become a privacy abiding company, changing the company name and pivoting to smaller tight knit groups in Messenger and the upcoming metaverse.

I still want Apple to kill Facebook.

"Shared with you" throughout iOS and macOS has taken on the role that I had suggested was the missing aggregator of social networking within Apple's apps. But there's still something to say about sharing content with the world and iOS is focused on personal relationships. I'd like to see an app that would share content with the ease we're used to seeing in Apple products. Turn on public sharing for a photo and it appears in a feed in that app. Or perhaps it's not an app and just a feature in Photos.

Meta is trying to get ahead of Apple in the AR space but like a lot of what Apple does, they're not trying to be the first, they're trying to be the best. I don't think people will trust anything Mark Zuckerberg does, even if he changed the named of the company. Apple is well positioned to eat Zuckerberg's lunch when Apple glasses are released next year.

I like how FB is treated like the evil person and everyone else is innocent. They are all doing it, they are all collecting and storing and selling your data. Do you think Google gives you free email, search, youtube...etc because they love you? Microsoft, and even some paid ones still collect your data and invade your privacy under the ignorance of many people.

As for FB specifically, Instagram is a product that has no alternative and no competitor, its the real issue for most people. That and some one has to convince people to stop using Whatsapp and switch to Signal

Evidently they did not survey in my company…
So, this means Facebook will be banned from USA, like certain Chinese company?. Who is the real spy?

Aside from TikTok which is clearly Instagram's biggest competitor and the one Zuckerberg is constantly ripping off from, there's an emerging competitor that I'd keep my eye on: Glass. It's beautifully done and a great way to share photos in a feed. It's ad free because there's a small annual fee. I'm happy to pay it. If Apple ever wanted to get into this space directly, I'd see them buying this company and its quickly growing community.

On top of all the bad behavior by Facebook as a company, it also has created a crap product...the software itself is not very good, limits what you can do with it compared what a social network could do, and doesn't even do a good job at connecting you with the people you know or things you might find interesting. It's great at supporting dictators, fomenting insurrection, and putting ads for things you don't want in the middle of your friend's updates though.

We really need a replacement that's about connecting people that doesn't take advantage of them.

The only time I use Facebook is to sign into my Quest 2, otherwise it's a complete waste of time. As far as people who believe everything they read on Facebook, well, you can't fix stupid.

Never was a fan of FaceBook, but then again all social media to me always felt like strange, even pointless timesinks.

However, was this poll simply a popularity contest? Or was there something of substance being brought up?

This is an award that’s definitely deserved and well-earned. I understand they grew faster than they, the internet or the world at large was ready for. But the problems on the platform and it’s influence is now well known (or we know enough now and are learning more). And yet they seem to have to be strong-armed into managing themselves and the profit-before-responsibility culture can only be blamed on the person who runs the company, as even his own employees were and are subject to the harm of the content it holds.

Yes the first in 2006 (worldwide) wasn't the best and is getting old. But they own all the data, just before Apple got them :)

FB has been going overboard suspending accounts with undo censorship. I got a warning when I posted a funny meme about buying the moon. It was just for fun. That's all I use FB for. Fun. I love watching funny cat videos. They make my day. If Mark-y Malarky gets a rise out of selling my "personal" info, it's just sad for him. I believe in karma.
Lot of tech companies sensor information and speech on their sites. Facebook, Meta, whatever are only unique in terms of the size and reach in the flow of information. Many are well ensconced in the Apple Universe.

All it takes to fix this is a little bit of money and a good PR firm. While money is no problem, a good PR firm is hard to find these days, especially for the amount of damage facebook has done to society.

Big tech motto -- Screwing up planet earth and society. Rapidly @ scale.

Don''t know if you are old ( >>30 ) or young (≥≥ 10) nothing to do with big tech's, you need a job to survive!

Yet nearly 3bn people use it every month. Let that sink in for a minute, that is approximately 2,800,000,000 people, 35% of the worlds population - every month.

For all Apple's marketing about privacy, forum frothings about people and their data being the product, even the acceptance that Facebook/Meta really is a cancer on society, it is clear that the majority of internet users do not care. :(
My wife included. She is on that crap nonstop. She recognizes the creepiness, but thinks the benefits outweigh it. I’m not sure how to convince her otherwise.

It is sad to see a company that could have done so much good connecting people in a divided country country and even a divided world become what it has. Facebook is the embodiment of greed. Instead of doing social good for the people it has productized and sold them out. But I see it dying, so it's just time.
I have yet to see a social charity or organization that isn’t corrupt. After all, you’re suckering people in emotionally into giving you money/data/whatever. The company knows it has the upper hand.

Facebook crowned worst company in 2021 by Yahoo Finance. How is no one even talking about what a ridiculous statement that is. By Yahoo Finance! LOL
