Doesn't matter. People will still use them because they think it's the only way they can keep in touch with people... as if phone calls, email, group texts, etc. don't exist.

People that care about you will find a way to keep you in the loop. If they don't, that's the value of your relationship with them.

Keep FB if it's a requirement for business, but if it's not... let that **** go.
I completely agree with you, but that’s exactly why a lot of otherwise alienated people get so wrapped up in social media. Your point is accurate but it requires a level of self assessment that not everyone has done. We lack a meaningful social fabric; we’re driven towards rugged individualism which has led to our relation to one another becoming strained and Instagram/Facebook offers the experience of feeling included in community without the intimidating and abstract work of creating and maintaining relationships at a time where we don’t have a lot of obvious alternative outlets for that. Anecdotally, I’ve had many people become overly familiar with me or start acting like I’m their friend even though I’ve either never met them or barely know them just because they follow me on Insta. It seems to act to replace meaningful connection that could be had with parasocial relationships, which is why I find it to be such a destructive social project. It seems like most people have lost the thread between reality and social media, and the only thing in my mind that can be done would be developing alternative methods for community interaction and intentionally creating intuitive barriers for engagement on these platforms to promote developing substantive social relationships, but Facebook would never do that, they are constantly working to drive further engagement through their platform. If the social being truly determines consciousness as Marx wrote, then taking advantage of people’s alienation by creating a business that monetizes engagement around petty grievance, outrage, and shallow social connection, Facebook has created one of the most socially destructive products we‘ve seen.

Oh no. Anyway. Going to see what's going on Facebook, the company that's spying on you from the information you give them on purpose.

I don't think Facebook is really the problem - it is the people who use it and have idea of or intent to use common sense and proper behavior
This is the truth here and not to mention I'm sure a significant portion of the voting was done by people who were just doing it because it's trendy yet again to hate on Facebook.

Obviously someone at yahoo finance had an axe to grind. While FB certainly does qualify for the trophy, there’s hundreds of companies that I’m sure are worse.

Microsoft voted best??? Microsoft make more and more steps to invade people's privacy. Just look at how often your computer will contact Microsoft servers per hour if you do not stop it via an external firewall! Microsoft will soon require a Microsoft account just to install Windows and at each Windows update it is looking for ways to make its data hungry "Edge" browser the standard browser. Cortana connects to Microsoft servers even if you completely disable it. Microsoft does not respect you right to decide that YOUR computer should not connect to Microsoft servers.

Apart from that some very popular Microsoft programs like Outlook have some serious flaws that Microsoft only fixes very slowly or not at all. Microsoft still does not give us an option which files types should have thunmnail previews and which not. You only have the option to enable or disable previews for all file types.

Microsoft completely destroyed the once really useful software "Skype" that once way P2P and now runs through Microsoft servers for the "convenience" of people who want to connect to Skype from more than one device.

Until German and European courts stopped Microsoft, Microsoft prevented OEM versions of Windows from being installed on another computer, even if the old computer was broken. Imagine you buy furniture at IKEA and you are told you can only use it in one designated apartment.

Microsoft forces automated updates on users of the "Home" editions. As important as updates are, users should still have the chance to veto any update, especially if it does not only improve security, but also changes the user interface and adds unwanted software. Sometimes a message pops up, that your PC will be rebooted in 15 minutes. If you do not notice that message, because you are at lunch or so, you will come back with a rebooted PC and perhaps data lost. There are settings to prevent that during the day, but that does not happen unless you actively change it. I urge all of my friends never to use the Home edition.

Microsoft seems to turn more and more into the "software as a service" direction. That means that one day Windows users might have to pay a dubscription fee or switch to Linux, if the want to continue using their computer.

Of course Apple also is very evil. Just look at the heavy censorship in the App Store! Apple products are hardly recycable. Apple only makes it easier and cheaper to repair its products if it is forced by goverments. If an iPhone screen breaks, repair is still so expensive that most people will probably buy another iPhone instead.

Facebook, otherwise known as Meta, has been crowned the worst company of the year, following a turbulent 12 months of controversies, public backlash, and an eventual entire rebrand of the social media giant, according to a survey conducted by Yahoo Finance.

Yahoo Finance every year crowns the best company of the year, with Microsoft taking the top spot for 2021. This year, however, Yahoo Finance also did a "worst company of the year" challenge, with Facebook, now known as Meta, quickly taking the top spot. According to the survey, which polled over 1,000 individuals, Facebook received 50% more votes for the spot compared to Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce platform.

Those surveyed have a "litany of grievances" towards Facebook, including but not limited to concerns over censorship, reports about Instagram's impact on mental health, and privacy. While the survey results are grim and not in the company's favor, 30% of the participants responded positively to whether Facebook could "redeem itself."

Facebook, amid scandals, did rebrand itself to "Meta," marking the start of a new direction for the company, according to its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The new name is meant to be more in line with the goal of building a "Metaverse," an entirely digital world. The rebrand was widely seen as an attempt to distract from scrutiny, and according to some participants in the survey, it worked.

Facebook has long been embroiled in public concerns over the privacy of its users. Facebook has notably fought with Apple over changes in iOS and iPadOS that make it harder for companies to track users across other apps and websites.

Facebook has claimed the new change, App Tracking Transparency, would hurt small businesses that rely on advertising to attract new customers. Mark Zuckerberg has gone as far as to say that Facebook's lackluster growth in the last quarter of the year was partly to blame on ATT (App Tracking Transparency).

Apple CEO Tim Cook has also not shied away from calling out Facebook for its practices and business model. In a speech at the start of the year, Cook implied that Facebook's business model leads to polarization and violence. A Meta spokesperson declined to respond to a comment from Yahoo Finance regarding the survey.

How is Microsoft awarded the best????

I don’t see any negative effects on their stock.
Surveys are just that, surveys. People who participated probably were already biased. Things will only change when people actually stop using Facebook and their products. But reality said otherwise.

In other news. 🤣

(since the "you don't say" meme is so overused already)
Do we really needed a survey to know this though? There are already enough data to support that.

The writing was on the wall when Youtube passed Facebook.com. Yes, Meta also owns Instagram, but how much more is that going to grow?

There isn't a more deserving company than Facebook this year for the equivalent of a business version of the golden raspberry award, even the name change won't make it easier for them. :D

Facebook turned into trash once boomer parents showed up on it. Then every snowflake thought their opinion mattered and used the platform to spread their sensitivity. That's exactly how we got PC, cancel culture, etc.

The political correctness thing isn't new, but social media has certainly amplified it. People say things behind a screen that they would never say in person. I'm guilty of it too.

It is easier for people without family and friends all over the world who also use it to give it up.
I have friends and family who use it. There are other ways of connecting with people.

-Edit-
But yes, I see your point, probably that’s why it’s so succesful despite being loathed so much.

**** facebook and **** zuck.

i actually quite enjoyed facebook around 2009/2010. i know it had been around for years even then but for me i felt like that's when it started to become really popular. i had been using Myspace + Bebo until then lol.

the more i used it i became more frustrated with it. i mean it was ****ing with my head. i was getting angry and upset as it was messing with my mental health. once i realised that i needed to stop using it i tried quitting it and it was difficult. i was addicted to logging in every day or checking it on my phone. i tried many times to abandon the site but kept crawling back. people would make fun of me cause i kept deleting my account then creating a new one.

i kept thinking i was missing out and i wouldn't be able to keep in touch with anyone. my life got worse (not really anything to do with facebook) and i quickly realised who the important people were in my life and if i needed to contact them or they had to contact me then it could easily be done without the help of facebook.

eventually i did manage to delete it and i haven't looked back. i'm glad i got that **** out my life. i did try Instagram but couldn't get into it. never bothered with WhatsApp either.
