Smart glasses from Apple, Samsung or Microsoft: okay, I'll check it out.
Smart glasses from Facebook or Amazon: yikes!

They don't sound very smart, they're just sunglasses that also have cameras and a mic/speakers.How are these smart?
Republic can be interpreted in many ways. I like to believe it was a thought experiment in taking the idea of a perfect society to the logical extreme. An enlightened dictatorshipI don't know if you ever read Plato's Republic, but Utopia was something of a hell on Earth where children were taken from their families at an early age and assigned to different casts based on intelligence. Religion and patriotism were used by the state to control the minds of the lower classes. (I guess that last part came true.)
Good luck with that. In NO world would you be LEGALLY allowed to do any of those ridiculous things you just suggested.I would have you thrown out of any privately owned shared space and I would probably encourage people to report your suspicious behavior until the cops ask you to not wear them in public. Of course, you could still do so, but eventually, to be safe they could take the camera down to the station and hold it until they have someone qualified to review it.
Because it's not just good enough that you feel comfortable wearing them. Everyone around needs to feel comfortable.
This is completely untrue. No (US) city or business can "ban" a camera on glasses.Just like Google Glasses many businesses and cities will preemptively ban them to avoid possible issues.
In fact, it is allowed. Google Glass was banned in many locations due to privacy concerns. But then again, you aren't old enough to remember.Good luck with that. In NO world would you be LEGALLY allowed to do any of those ridiculous things you just suggested.

Have you been to Earth-1218? Because it's already happened many times, including in response to people wearing glasses with cameras.Good luck with that. In NO world would you be LEGALLY allowed to do any of those ridiculous things you just suggested.
It's very true. Businesses can ban any article of clothing they wish. Cities can do the same if it's for the public good. Say, you wear it to a bar and someone doesn't like that so they remove them with their fist. Sure, they go to jail, but when that happens again, and again, and again, eventually someone suggests a proactive solution. This is completely untrue. No (US) city or business can "ban" a camera on glasses.
Google Glass was never a real product and Snap Spectacles have been around for 5 years with ZERO reported incidents.
Where are your sources? Do you routinely harass people who point a camera in your general direction?
Sucks for that kid, and all others of their generation to have literally every day of their lives since birth, be documented and owned by corporations, for all eternity.Bought a pair... Kid on the way and looking forward to hands free captures
Sure, but this is also the MacRumors forums. Where people who like Apple stuff hang out. And Apple isn't in the business of selling my personal information. If they had an Apple logo on them, everybody on here would be singing their praises to the heavens.
Their track record is better than Facebook’s. Snapchat also doesn’t have a lot of self-reported data on me. Snapchat spectacles are a great product that does what it needs to do. Very pleased with them and would much sooner buy another pair from them than Facebook. To each his own though, just my opinion. Why do you trust them more? Both FB and Snap are in the business of collecting user data on one end, and selling you relevant ads on the other. They just take different routes to get there. FB just has a higher historical creep factor because of its enormous social network and ad businesses.
Doesn't mean im sharing it on Insta/FB. Just like when I was a kid and all the parents held their big camcorders at the soccer games or birthday parties. My family has recently converted those to DVD and its nice to have.Sucks for that kid, and all others of their generation to have literally every day of their lives since birth, be documented and owned by corporations, for all eternity.
