I didn't know Facebook Assistant was a thing!

I haven't read all of the details. When you snap a photo, where does it go? Does it automatically post to your account for your followers to see?

The hard-wired LED is smart, but imagine how many backfacing-shots people can get without the subject being aware. The glasses should have a hard-wired camera-capture sound built in, too. Every shot plays a sound that can't be silenced.

Doesn't mean im sharing it on Insta/FB. Just like when I was a kid and all the parents held their big camcorders at the soccer games or birthday parties. My family has recently converted those to DVD and its nice to have.
Those camcorders didn’t have wifi or Bluetooth. Nor were they tied to companies whose major revenue stream comes from datamining.

It will go to a separate app (Facebook View) for you to review/edit and share is desired.

What Ray-Ban. 🤔

Expensive rubbish shades, and yes, I mean that.

There are far better and cheaper shades, Julbo is one of them.

I used to buy €40 CEBE sunglasses, indestructible outdoor cat2-4 sunglasses, 10X better than Ray-Ban..Oakley....blahblah design and so on.

The do look pretty great for smart glasses. However, the target demographic for these already spend $600-$1000 on smartphones with much better cameras and battery life every 2-3 years.

Who needs a tiny camera with a small battery on their head if they already are holding two great cameras in their hand with good battery life and full editing and sharing capabilities?

I also cannot see these having even acceptable battery life as the physical dimensions of those frames simply cannot fit anything worth mentioning.

These sound terrible. Open speaker? That's all I need. Some dbag wearing wayfairs with their camera LED turned on with music blaring.

The people who want to record when not having to hold a phone in their hand, lol.

Who needs a watch with a screen when I have a phone in my hand that gives me all my notifications and the time?

Auto-upload to Facebook or IG could definitely also lead to a lot of.. interesting scenarios.

I can't imagine that's a thing.

Then again, Zuck actually chose himself as spokesperson and model for these. Wow.

Apple Watches have a ton of health sensors in them that wouldn't make sense sitting in a phone. Smart watches without obvious features that can't already be had in smartphones are nowhere near as popular as those that have.

So people buy devices for sensors? or do we agree people buy devices for capabilities/features?
My point is this provides a functionality that phones dont - hands free recording, quick and easy captures, and headset functionality.
I guess you could strap your iPhone to your head all day though.

While I agree with many of the privacy concerns voiced in this thread, I just don't see what the big deal is.

We walk around with selfie cameras all the time, upload our photos and videos to the cloud all the time, we put them in our cars, on our computers at home and at work, on our cops (I wish more had them), in and out of our houses, on helmets when mountain biking, surfing, skydiving, etc.

These Ray Bans are pretty clean and elegant for what they are. Yes, Facebook can kiss my tail fin, but the type of device this is seems to be derided here without any look at the positives of the existence of such a device.

Look! I’m an Innovator!

Oh Rayban. You used to be cool.

now you‘re part of the scumbags at Facebook And the surveillance state.

For those who don’t know Ray-ban is actually part of eyewear juggernaut Luxottica Group, the world’s biggest eyewear company. if you’ve bought Oakley glasses, shopped at Sunglass Hut, have prescription lenses by Essilor or have used EyeMed Vision Care, you’ve bought something from Luxottica.

Seriously I think this is the objective: People buy Ray-Ban and Facebook is able to test the AR research program in the masses. That basically is. Go ahead in the competition against Apple AR. My guess as is with the Ray-Ban brand, this should sell well.
