I'm not the problem. Maybe I don't babysit my friends list and police it but i highly doubt such useless info is unique to me. plus, these posts by friends, etc evolve over time.

But being disrespectful to me as another human being is hardly solving the problem. So maybe you're the problem. Your nastiness is completely unnecessary.

Then just like Facebook YOU have the CHOICE to ignore me and hide my comments just as YOU have the CHOICE as to who annoys you on YOUR Facebook page which apparently is everyone.

Yeah, Apple is going to let Facebook take over the home screen. In other news, monkeys might come flying out of my butt.

There is no way Apple would let Facebook design anything! Apple will just say "we want x features and we are designing the ui!"

Whilst I'm sure many won't want it.

What's wrong with giving iPhone users "The Choice" ?

FB is life intrusion without much choice. If you have it you are vulnerable to how they want you to use it. Knowing Apple it will be heavily integrated into iOS aka big intrusion that you have to spend a lot of time on making sure it doesn't do stuff you don't want it to do. Most of the time I can go on some random's profile I don't even have friended and see all of their photos that they wouldn't want me to see just because they have not taken the time to go through the privacy stuff. You know why they didn't? Because they think FB is just this one stop awesome shop and don't think it requires effort to manage. FB can be simple of you don't care about your private life but I am betting for most people who do care that they don't want to have to spend time checking every new App they get just to make sure it isn't going to integrate to FB and annoy everyone's newsfeed with stupid stuff that you don't realise is going out.

I fell for this trap once, so many websites are using "log in with FB" and I did it once to try out. Happened to be Ustream and everything I typed to the UStreamer host was published to my profile for everyone on my FB to see. Of course when accept Ustream onto FB to be able to sign in it would have told me but who wants to read all that stuff anyway? It is like reading the 5 pages of terms and conditions when signing up to a website, you just scroll down check the box and go on. If you don't agree with 1 of 5 options you can't use FB to sign in, you have to agree with everything, not like you can customise the setup. I want to have peace of mind using a phone, not wonder if **** is being posted without me knowing. I am constantly checking my activity log on FB to see if any unwanted stuff has been done by anything outside of my control and so far I have caught a couple of things. I wish I didn't have to use FB but I need it for two things which I have no say of the matter in.

no, no, NOOOOOOO!!!! I HOPE TIM COOK GETS FIRED! He's ruining a company in less then 2 years that Steve took more then 20 years to build! There is no way Steve would have ever been even open to talks about this. Tim Cook is horrible!

Actually they are only in "talks" of getting Apple to do it. Apple will NEVER cave into it. I mean just looking at the terrible reviews. Facebook needs Apple to say yes more than Apple needs the integration.

Not everyone annoys me. It's comments like these that I find offensive.

Because that worked so well with Maps...

ah you almost sound religious. What is wrong with the Maps UI? You are clouded by sheepish hatred so anything that says Maps means everything is wrong with it, not just maps themselves but everything associated with it.

----------

I dislike integration of things that are not set in stone. For example. Imagine if smart phones took off a few years earlier. We would see myspace integration then all of a sudden myspace dies and we have this useless memory hog on our devices that has barely any purpose. Why not give the option to integrate this stuff ourselves just like you used to be able to do on say OS X Tiger, fresh install and choose what apps you want it to install fresh.

Wow. You got all of that from...
Because that worked so well with Maps...

I must get your Facebook page so I can consult you for my future choices.

You chose Apple and you know they don't give you any choice with what is installed with iOS.

If you want that CHOICE then go to Android.

Then hide them from your page. Unlike Apple, Macrumors gives you the choice.

Several people have commented that Apple won't give up it's springboard.

Years ago, the Nike+ App allowed you to see what you were listening to, how far you went, pace, etc, all from the lock screen. It was great, and you could also use your finger to swipe to the next song.

You haven't been able to do that in a while, nor will RunKeeper do that.

Is this related at all? Why can't developers do that anymore? Now you have to slide, unlock, wait for the app...it's a real pain.

I'd love to know why.

It's simple once you have devs messing around with the OS it can cause a whole slew of problems. Since the barrier of entry into making apps is so small ($99) it's not hard for a dev to signup make horrible changes to the OS and affect how users perceive Apple (e.g. terrible interface designs, annoying widgets, security issues etc.). In the users' eyes everything they download/install on their iPhone is from Apple. Not everyone thinks that obviously but not everyone knows about how technology works.

Apple wants to maintain the consistency of the user experience and ensure it goes through their quality standards of what they want the main OS to be capable of doing.

If you look at jailbroken devices you have hack devs that make terrible changes to the user experience with all sorts of random, ugly and unnecessary things to the home page. Plus most are incapable of creating interfaces that fit with the whole theme of the OS. In other words it just looks ugly. I'm generalising here but most of these people have ZERO eye for design and it taints Apple's name.
