Facebook will launch a new desktop app for Messenger on both macOS and Windows later this year, according to a since-deleted blog post spotted by French blog iGeneration ahead of Facebook's annual F8 developer conference.

A screenshot of the Windows version of the app reveals that it will look rather similar to both Skype and Apple's own Messages app on Mac. Facebook said Messenger Desktop will have many of the same features as the mobile version of the app, including support for group video calls and collaboration.

Facebook is expected to unveil the desktop app alongside several other new Messenger features at its F8 keynote today at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Update: Facebook's blog post has been republished after Messenger Desktop was unveiled at F8 as expected.

CNET has a video of the announcement:

Who cares?

So much distrust of facebook?

Don't worry. Their humongous stash of money will be used for the best ever PR job in history. You will LOVE facebook by the time they are done. It will be the most adored company in America.
I wonder why people don't trust Facebook... Just look at Mark Zuckerberg, with a face like that how can you not trust him to look out for your best interests! /s

Does Signal support group video calling? No? Then it's not the best.
The fact that it doesn't support group video conference isn't the problem. It's main problem is you have to get everyone to download the app then get their user name or whatever. If it's a company thing then you can just instruct employees to do this. If it's for personal use then instructing your friends might not work. If any app can overcome this difficulty it's Facebook because searching by name and almost everyone has a Facebook account. With some of the privacy issues this might not last long though.

computers were created for a purpose
but then people saw opportunities to use those computers to do their dirty work

so now instead of being productive and help man in their work with what ever they need

computers are being misused for espionage and ilegal activities, scams, all kind of frauds

then people like FB CEO create this kind of services, selling it like is for something but the real reason or purpose is for something else

we are not giving you a service, we are using you an exploiting you to make ourself rich beyond our wildest dream

the only way to get our computers and our privacy and security back is by not using this kind of useless services or apps that are basically trojan horses, made by thieves that just want to steal your personal info to sell it

superman 3 predicted how corrupted man will take control of computers and gas to control the world and become multi trillionaires or whatever comes after that

that movie is like over 30 years old
but what they explained there is what we living today

FB must be shut down because of their continuos illegal activities but for reason they are still allow to operate, wonder why? corruption

Its funny how people are soo concern about privacy and yet they go online... privacy? is that even a thing today when everyone is online?
