A screenshot of the Windows version of the app reveals that it will look rather similar to both Skype and Apple's own Messages app on Mac. Facebook said Messenger Desktop will have many of the same features as the mobile version of the app, including support for group video calls and collaboration.
Facebook is expected to unveil the desktop app alongside several other new Messenger features at its F8 keynote today at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
Update: Facebook's blog post has been republished after Messenger Desktop was unveiled at F8 as expected.
CNET has a video of the announcement:

I wonder why people don't trust Facebook... Just look at Mark Zuckerberg, with a face like that how can you not trust him to look out for your best interests! /sSo much distrust of facebook?
Don't worry. Their humongous stash of money will be used for the best ever PR job in history. You will LOVE facebook by the time they are done. It will be the most adored company in America.
Does Signal support group video calling? No? Then it's not the best.It really isn't.
There are secure cross-platform messaging apps like Signal.
Heaven knows what this app does behind the scenes to unsuspecting users.
The fact that it doesn't support group video conference isn't the problem. It's main problem is you have to get everyone to download the app then get their user name or whatever. If it's a company thing then you can just instruct employees to do this. If it's for personal use then instructing your friends might not work. If any app can overcome this difficulty it's Facebook because searching by name and almost everyone has a Facebook account. With some of the privacy issues this might not last long though.Does Signal support group video calling? No? Then it's not the best.

It would be silly for me to install it anyway. I don't have a Facebook account.
I don't have a Facebook account.
No, they don’t unless they created an account for me.You don't have logins for your Facebook account. They have your information tied to an inactive account.

They won’t reject it.Apple should reject spyware if they really care about privacy.
