best thing is you can now again keep your posting if it errors out. Previously before the last app, it just notified you of the failure and you could try again or not - if not, you could then copy your paragraph of text and save it somewhere else if need be. The last app just acted like it sent and then it just disappeared into the ether. Now it shows a progress bar which you can cancel and keep your text.

However, bummed about no landscape. I suppose the last one had that due to being a glorified website.

Also now you cannot tag people in photos after they have been posted. You CAN do this on the Facebook Camera app.

Don't pretend to be smart, because you're pulling this out of context and making a fool of yourself.

The HTML5 claim was in regards to browser technology... namely the need to drop Adobe Flash. Native applications had nothing to do with this argument.

;)

I think he was being sarcastic, but your point is very valid. :)

As well as no Sharing, you still can't select and copy text on the News Feed page - why??

----------

Am I missing something or has the Pages button disappeared? In the old app I'm certain that if you selected Friends from the side menu then at the bottom of the Friends page their were two buttons, Friends and Pages, but they aren't there in the new app

Wow, no share button, in an app ... based... on....sharing...

This hurts my brain every time I have to think about it.

And no text selecting either is ridiculous. These people... what in the hell are they smoking over there!!!!!

Has anyone worked out how to get push notifications for messages yet on the iPad app? It's the only push notification not working for me.

still facebook... but now, with less suck.

----------

I can't believe that we still don't have the ability to "Share" stuff. It's missing the "Share" hyperlink/button that the web version has.

What's up with that, in this late version 5????

I think they did what they could. It's been a long way for Facebook, their first version sucked donkey balls and it took them years to rewrite it. The new code base is brand new, and so I think they released it as soon as there was feature parity - we wouldn't want to wait another month, now would we.

Now that that's out, they can focus on bugfixes and new features, and because they're not based on a completely broken architecture anymore, these things should come fast and furious.

Why did they never ever attempt to make this app this good??? I just love it, very smooth, very fast, animations rock, makes it more entertaining to use. :D

Brits invented the first 'computing engines', being able to make predefined calculations. But the first programmable, modern computer, was invented and build in Germany.

Zuse's Z3 and Flower's Collosus both have claims to be the first programmable Turing-complete computer, depending upon how you define things. But "modern computers" are derived for the most part from von Neumann's and Aiken's work done during the war, and Flower's work during the ware on the Collosus, and all three saw themselves as being inspired by Turing and Babbage (who designed but never built a Turing-complete programmable mechanical computer in the 1860s, the Analytical Engine, which would have used punch cards).

Neither Zuse nor Babbage knew their designs were Turing complete - Babbage because Turing hadn't been born yet, let alone written "On Computable Numbers [...]," Zuse because he wasn't really interested in determining the limits of the Z3's computability.

And then what about Shannon's contributions? Or Lovelace's? Or Peano's?

Basically it's a silly argument. The first person who consciously and knowingly invented a programmable Turing-complete electronic computer might have been Tommy Flowers, but he deserves no more credit than Konrad Zuse.

I haven't gotten to my iPad yet. Is this just the iPhone version that got updated?

Hi guys, do you also have problems with uploading photos? In the previous app it was going very fast, but in this new version the progressbar is often hanging at 50% or 75%. At the end it works after cancelled it three times. :(

The new app for me uploads photos and video a lot faster than the old app.

Weird, did also a reinstall but nothing helps. :( Is it just so difficult FB to script a iOS app....

Works fast each time I've used it. Maybe it's your connection?

It's great that it's much faster. Especially on my slow data. But dammit, there's still no Share feature. And I just noticed that, maybe it's just me, but there's absolutely no Landscape orientation anymore. I can't type as well on Portrait! I need landscape! It's what my fingers are used to.

nope, no landscape. i think that was only in the other one because it was HTML and basically a webpage.

I've heard rumors they are crippling iOS functions because ad buyers are realizing that the mobile apps give them zero revenue.

Surely you (not you personally 'you' as a collective) would have to be quite foolish to trust any large, wealthy company too much.

Do I trust Apple? No. Do I trust Google? No. Do I trust Samsung, Microsoft, Amazon, Dropbox, etc? Nope.

Do I still use their services? Yep.

Maybe I am foolish. but I do put some trust in them. I view them as an American company and while profits may drive their decisions I trust they would not do anything with the intentions of harming me or any other American. I must trust them. I have to. Becuase if I can't trust the American people, if I can't trust my country, well then I've got bigger problems.

(I realize my comment is very American-centric but I am not opening the discussion to any kind of country bashing. I may love this country but I do not hate/dislike others.)

----------

Indians and Chinese are the oldest civilizations in the world so they invented the Brits. What's your point?

Why is everyone so hell bent on starting a pissing contest?

Historical accuracy would be nice!

The reason is we had the usual American claims that they invented everything and are responsible for everything out of apple. Maybe you should read the previous posts and the fact that I am fed up reading anti-American posts and the counter anti-British posts on this site.

Indians and Chinese didn't invent the British, but it was British people that 'invented' the Americans. (Washington was a Brit!)

Maybe I am getting my history wrong but the point I was trying to make is that before the British there was someone else and their children are what eventually became the British. It's not a competition. I don't get why people think it is. At the end of the day we all came from the same place and we're all going back to the same place [insert required your mom joke here].

And you're right, the whole anti-any country posts are annoying but have you heard the phrase "Never argue with an idiot? They will bring you down to their level and beat you with years of experience." It's not a fight worth fighting. Just ignore them IMHO.

----------

More then FB because of the business model.

Apple get money from the user for their products.
FB get money from corporate for information volunteered from user.

That's quite a difference.

FB got money? I thought their stocks were plumitting? And I thought most of their revenue was from ads?

Might wanna research that a little more

I meant to say "one of the oldest". My bad. I was just using it to try to make a point.

Also, you are me then I am you then why are you hitting yourself in the face?

----------

Yup. On the website you can backdate posts or schedule future posts:

Image

Oh and I forgot targeting. Can't target your posts by demographic in the FB app when you're posting as a page.

HOLY S***! I did not know that. Oh fun shall ensue. Thanks!

Much improved especially on my iPad now. Only issue you can't delete and chat conversation or message both on iPhone n iPad. Is this a known bug so far.

About Time, Maybe now Facebook will get off their asses and get around to adding the "Share" function so that we can share stories, pics and etc from our mobile devices.

We can dream can't we?

Can't delete posts

Is it just me or can someone explain how you can delete posts, before the update on my iPad/iPhone I used to swipe to the right and then delete but this function has gone I'm bamboozled.

----------

Can you not tag photos anymore??

I think you can only tag people in photos at the time of uploading no idea why this is but it's crap

Hardly.

HTML5 enables significant standards based content delivery opportunities, but Jobs never said it would replace native programming languages for everything.

Missing FLASH are you? Still angry huh.

Actually he did.

"The full Safari engine is inside of iPhone. And so, you can write amazing Web 2.0 and Ajax apps that look exactly and behave exactly like apps on the iPhone. And these apps can integrate perfectly with iPhone services. They can make a call, they can send an email, they can look up a location on Google Maps.

And guess what? There’s no SDK that you need! You’ve got everything you need if you know how to write apps using the most modern web standards to write amazing apps for the iPhone today. So developers, we think we’ve got a very sweet story for you. You can begin building your iPhone apps today"
