Question - will Apple play by the same rules? Will we be able to disable ad tracking for Apple apps as well?
i highly doubt it. apple can track you bc they care about your privacy. facebook can't because they aren't apple i mean dont care about your privacy

Exactly....this. Everyone who is calling out Facebook, are you going to do the same to your very precious Apple? As stated Apple's own ad platform is not subject to the same regulations. Apple still has an ad platform that will not ask permission and not allow you to block it in any way. Love to see how all the Apple cultists on here will rationalize that away.
Please explain. Facebook makes a business of gobbling up everything about you, targeting ads, and selling your data. You are leveling a charge (seemingly baselessly) against Apple for doing the same. Please back it up with actual facts. Thank you

One individual stated that since Apple was a hardware company, and didn’t rely on as revenue for a large part of its earnings, it wasn’t an issue. Why isn’t it? Shouldn’t these rules be applied universally? As tracking is as tracking. Whether it’s your business or it’s a small amount of your revenue stream. At least the op out option should exist. If you want Apple to track you, fine - allow them to track you.

You make the assumption that everyone has to allow advertising in to their lives without needing consent. Like it is the default condition. My time and information has value and if I say I’m not ok with it being taken from me, they need to honor that request.
You're one of those people who blocks ads using any means necessary, then continues to consume "free" ad-supported content.

Screw FB!
Every second of its existence FB has "taken this risk on behalf of the millions of businesses who use MY Personal Data & Likess to grow" while FB continues to profit, enable misinformation, enable denegration, discrimination, and hatred to grow, while there is no verification process at time of registration allowing for bots.

no thanks FB and advertising companies .... time to adjust your entire model. You make money off me without my explicit and detailed permission and I'm NOT getting paid? no no no!

excerpt personal data restriction: [when allowed for how long, on which media apps & sites - total list for micro restrictions, what countries, for what explicit ads, to disallow sharing of data, to mandate complete deletion starting the second of timed restriction, to disallow multiple use licenses at once, disallow backup of personal data, to enforce purging any previously or current cached personal data. etc]
What kind of screwy thinking is this? Do you pay Facebook for using their app? Do you pay Facebook for the free advertising they do for every business on there? Crazy thinking. Of course they are going to monetize you!!!! You are using a free service and expecting them to not make any money. How about you go into your job today and tell your boss, "Hi boss I am going to start working for you for free. I don't want to make any money off of my hard work"

Says the company who’s new privacy label looks like this:

Temper, temper. It is one thing to show you ads like free Spotify and quite another to mine your personal data

Yes that is what I am saying. All the Apple evangelists on here are saying it's not a big deal that Apple doesn't have to abide by the regulations. It shouldn't matter if 1% of your income is from advertising or 99% is. Everyone should have to follow the regulations. Apple makes rules all the time and then very conveniently excludes themselves from those rules because "it's our platform".

Then explain why Apple's own apps are not going to have the same disclaimer that all other companies are. Explain why Apple's ad platform is not going to abide by the same rules that every other company has to.

Facebook is bad because they provide a service I use for free, but they generate 99% of their income through advertising.
Facebook is bad because they serve up ads and create a profile on you to sell to advertisers, even if you never once use Facebook or open a facebook account. Even if you never go to facebook.com, they know who you are, and without actively blocking them they will track everything you do on the internet.

Apple may be just as bad with their planned obsolescence, but I understand that you can't support hardware indefinitely and I'm okay with that. I also choose to use Apple devices, and if I leave the Apple ecosystem Apple doesn't track me.

Small businesses might still benefit from non-targeted advertising vs less relevant. The problem here is how much information they collect in order to make it targeted advertising. We can also have a global anonymous way to select our preferences, without tracking everything that I do.

In order to avoid "pot meet kettle" situation, probably yes. However, I do feel Apple already has another way of dealing with targeting advertising if they are proposing the change.
Read the article again. Apple's own ad platform is not subject to the same rules. And since when has Apple followed all the rules it sets for other companies?

You opt out of Apple by not buying their products. Feel free to go elsewhere and complain about cultists.

Ladies and gentlemen, a Facebook investor.
