I'm surprised no one else has said it yet...

Why is this on the front page of MACrumors?

When Amazon, Twitter, Google, or any other non-Apple related webpage is updated, it's not covered anywhere here, but somehow Facebook updating their webpage warrants a front page article on MACrumors?

Personally, I'd like to see an end to Facebook and its evil young ceo.. He is an ego maniac and a punk.

And this makes him different from many other CEOs in what way!??

I don't care about Facebook, or any other social media, for that matter. But the fact that the CEO is "an ego maniac and a punk" does not measure the value of the product of that CEO's company.

Donald Trump is a total and complete prick in every way, but he still has some nice hotels.

Update looks great.

Doesn't change the fact that Facebook is spyware, the Keyser Soze of Spyware.

WHy do all these videos have to use the same boring "inspirational" piano music? like it's the next "awakening" for mankind or something, jesus, it's so unoriginal and try-hard:rolleyes:.

Do you mean "close friends"? Selecting that gives a notification for every post they make (which I don't want, just for all their posts to show up in my feed), and it doesn't work for organizations. I just want a news feed preference, not that other stuff.

You also reminded me, I wish there was a way to turn off having comments you make on posts show up in other people's news feeds. I know other people can turn that off, but I really wish I could do it from my end, I don't want other people annoyed by that. Same goes for "Joe is now friends with Sally" posts, I just don't see the point.

You can turn those notifications off and still get all their activity in your feed.

That's the most irritating aspect of FB. People I don't know can comment on my photo or post even though I have my photos/post set to "friends only". I guess because my friend friends can see a comment he made on my photo, they can post too? Or if I tag a friend in my photo, their friends can start making comments (x friends with y) on my photo? It's absurd.

Facebook would be a lot more useful if they didn't algorithmically edit your feed stories.

That is why twitter is so much better - it doesn't cut out the stories from the people you follow.

Facebook sometimes gets an undeserving bad rap.

Facebook seems to get a lot hate from people, but from my experiences it has been mostly a good thing. I use it mainly to check in on and keep in contact with some long time friends, close friends from high school, friends from college and some family.

I have less that 100 (currently 67 to be exact and I am not looking forward to getting it to 100+) friends on FB and I have been using it since 2008. I try to be somewhat selective. I don't know how you can have 200 to 500+ "friends" and actually keep connected in a meaningful way to all of them.

You do not need to "friend" everyone and their mother's mother. That's where many people become overwhelmed and complain about clutter and chaos on their timeline (My timeline looks just fine to me). All that unfiltered noise on a person's timeline must be annoying. Chances are all those 500+ people are not your actual "friends" and that's why many feel alone and depressed despite having so many "friends".

I use FB a lot to have a quick chat about a non-urgent stuff with my parents back home. Better than emails I think.

I only have 20+ "friends" in my FB account. They are my close relatives and close friends so sometimes I am wondering how some people get to have 500+ "friends". Geez.

How? If that's possible, they certainly have it hidden.

People add classmates, coworkers, others that they've met (even if perhaps briefly), etc. As long as you can manage everything correctly (setup and use various friend lists and privacy options) it's really no trouble to keep up with just those that you want as well as to be able to check in with various others that you might want to every now and then.

Yes, they really need to bring back the true "most recent" news feed filter where everything gets posted (aside from perhaps specific types of things you selected not to see) from everyone (again, aside from those you specifically selected to exclude) in chronological order--basically bring back a lot of the stuff that went into the fairly useless ticker that was added (and looks like perhaps it will be removed with the redesign).

Curious, is the browser they show on the mac screenshot an actual browser?

Because if it is I want it, now.

you, and everyone else who complains about facebook, more annoying than the people who use facebook.

that is a fact.

Actually it's the people that complain about the people complaining about the people complaining that really ruffles my floella benjamin.

did anyone from NY get the update yet? any idea when it will be rolled out for us in the east coat?

this story is a perfect example of how this website has gone from being great to utterly average.

look at it...there is not one single mention or word relating to Apple in the whole story.

sad

dude this a major change in facebook, the last newsfeed change was 7 years ago, so macrumors did perfect for posting this news. everyone has facebook, if u dont thats fine but come on now.. there are no apple news right now so they have to post something right

I've been off Facebook for nearly 7 months now and have loved every minute of it.

With that said, if you like it and use it, then to each their own. It caused me more problems then it did benefit, but let's remember something, everyone's different.

I agree, Facebook is garbage for the most part, but that is not a fact, it is an opinion.

Happy browsing everyone!
