Long past time they fire sheryl sandberg. She's the one behind facebook's mess--it was what, precisely, she was hired to do. But even when monetizing information, you have to have some ethics--something she doesn't understand. She ought to "lean back." WAAAAYYYYY back.

Zuckerberg is absolutely crazy. Is he really the only one who doesn’t see that Facebook/Meta is a terrible and hated company?
I think this is a Love/Hate situation. Billions and billions of people log on every day to WhatsApp, Insta, FB, Messenger..... its more akin to crack heads addicted to crack.... they hate the crack but can't stop going back.

So when you get to the store you must sign a waiver, that the store will track you like those amazon stores without any clerks. They will have free DNA machines, like those blood pressure machines to check your health. Their scanners will tag all your RFID's in your wallet, and to sell you an Oculus the store is cashless so you must give them permission to track you for life, and they get all your data for life for free.

Yeah right...

I legit wholeheartedly get sick to my stomach when I see news about this meta stuff and his fake, sick and twisted smile from that promo video. A little piece of me dies each time and I get a sinking feeling and lose hope for humankind.
I don't want to gang up on the guy but seriously... why is this even being considered? I just hope it fails and we can go back to... I dunno... semi-normal life. People don't want their data stolen and used for creepy advertisement and tracking. Stop stalking us and thinking you "know" us.

Facebook might want their stores to be judgement free, but if you go into one of these damn sure know that I will be judging you.
Admittedly, my curiosity levels are too high to not walk into one just once, but.... I won't know if I will be feeling more shame, or fear, as I enter.

Not only AR, but also broadband internet in general. There are places in the US where it's still difficult to get a network connection with speeds faster than 5 mbps down and 1 mbps up. Broadband internet is very very far from being universal in the US. The Metaverse concept may generally be a neat concept, but it will be at least 30-70 years before it's existence doesn't split the US into a caste system. During the Pandemic, there were schools in my dads area that had students sitting in cars in the school parking lot to use the school wifi because broadband internet wasn't available at their homes. Not counting people who just cannot afford home internet.

Yes, the biggest takeaway I had from reading Ready Player One was 'Where are they getting this killer internet service from? Sacked mobile homes? Rundown wastelands, and rock solid internet service? HOW?!?!?

If AT&T would stop spending my money on toxic 'content producers', and focus on what I pay them to do, I wouldn't have constant ball circle of death incidents several times in a 15 minute session. It's damned maddening...

As much as I hate Facebook , they are still incredibly popular with the clueless general population. These are the ones who don’t have a clue what Facebook is doing behind the scene, or just don’t care. They cling to Facebook for the convenience of sharing photos of their kids, promoting their business or getting promotional deals that need a Facebook account.

Well, that didn't age well...

EDIT: I MEANT MY COMMENT! Duh...

Is anyone actually interested in a metaverse? Wtf is the point of recreating the real world into a fake world? Seems so depressing and dystopian.
I am curious, but the metaverse they are describing seems to be the way we are headed … NFT’s … people are also creating NFT items inside digital worlds .. similar to Meta but called Earth2,0 or something like that. There seems to be an interest in holing up with our phones and social media. So feels like they are going to have everyone logged into a 4-D world owning land, art and tons of items and things via NFT’s. Sounds very sci-fi, but that is where it is headed unless something happens to change the course. Movies and books have been saying it, but technology is now catching up for a new advanced version of virtual reality. Look at how we are obsessed with phones and digital games, apps, etc. The next step is to somehow plug into the “net” along with everyone else.

Also back to NFT’s again… they boggle my mind because I don’t get it, but they are now selling nikes and other high end brand items ..digital .. and people are buying it! Pair of nikes that you can own and not get dirty by wearing…

Maybe it is just more efficient for us to turn inward into ourselves more and it is a new facet of human evolution. Who knows, but there just seems to be this push to all digital that is gaining steam.

Guess that is my attempt to answer the why?

As someone who is EXTREMELY excited about the meta-verse, I'm surprised there is so much negativity. Yes I've seen the memes, but there are many, many, many people I've talked to who literally cannot wait.

I think opening a store is a GREAT idea. We have Apple stores. Why not Meta Stores?

My guess would be many people who are knocking the meta-verse today will be living in it soon...

Meta is nothing more than a new environment created for insecure creepy people with fake avatars and skins. Did I mention the pedophiles, scammers and hackers looking to steal your data? This is worse than the dark web.
