Phone call is not a problem, for phone I can use AirPods or Apple Watch. What if my iPhone turns off while using navigation or music app? Pulling over on highway means taking exit xyz....

What if...? What if...? What if...? Pull off the damn road! You're not special! No one should have to die because the wrong song is on the radio or you don't know where you're going. There are no exceptions! Quit trying to find them. It's extremely selfish to place your own minor wishes above the lives around you.

This thread's TL,DR:

"Guys, I want to be a douche and use my phone while driving."

"Don't be a douche and use your phone while driving."

"But what about this reason?"

"Nope. Still a douche."

"Well, there is this reason."

"Sorry, but no. Still douchey."

"But I need some excuse to justify my doucheyness, even though it's unsafe and against the law in most states, and even though I know both those things. I mean, how am I supposed to be a douche if I can't use my phone while driving?!?"

I don’t care if you use Touch ID or face I’d, it will distract you. I’m not really concerned about that split second as many of you on the high horse are, it’s the time you spend on it after it’s unlocked that should be harped on.
It comes down to personal responsibility and it’s on the driver.

Wouldn't saying "Hey siri" solve a lot of these problems? I use siri a lot while im driving.
Hey siri get directions to so and so. Hey siri play popular songs by so and so. Hey siri, text so and so blah blah.

Im not saying I don't advocate safe driving and one should never text, or mess about with their phone while driving.
I just feel that some people are forgetting about features that make interacting with the phone without ever having to actually touch the phone or even glance at the screen.

Definitely. It’s like they’re stuck in the days of flip phones with T9 text input.

A few years back, I took a friend to one of her DUI classes, some victims panel. There were maybe around 100 in the audience. I recall one of the first things said in that meeting. They said that statistically, some of the people in the audience (1 in 3 maybe?) would sit through the entire thing, ignore it and continue to drive drunk. And of those, they also gave a percentage of how many would not only drive drunk, but kill or seriously injure someone, statistically speaking of course.

That's what this thread reminds me of. Some people will listen to good advice and some will choose to ignore it until it's too late. There will always be those who think they're somehow special. They think bad things only happen to others because they're somehow a better driver than the rest of them. Or worse, they honestly don't care. Self-driving cars can't get here fast enough in my opinion.

That needs to happen in the US. Every day on my drive to work I encounter multiple people on the expressway staring at their phones while they drive along at 70 MPH.
Playing devil's advocate, those 70mph speed limits on american highways are stupid as hell, that's a bit slow for those wide highways, it almost encourages people to do those kind of stupid things to kill time.

I went to the US once, and man, some highways are crazy booring at those speeds. In europe we can go a bit quicker on much narrower 2 lane highways, wich makes you pay atention to the road.

That sounds like fun but the last thing we need in America is a higher speed limit to force these idiots to pay attention.

Mine unlocks automatically when it senses the Bluetooth in my car. (note 8 - Not my iPhone 6S+). It just locks when I shut off my car or am not in range. Can do it around my home wifi signal as well. I have the option to turn the feature off. Why doesn't Apple incorp something like that? Guess if someone stole my car with my phone in it that would be bad, but my phone rarely leaves my front shirt pocket. So, Ill take the chance.

I believe if you turn off the "Attention" feature of FaceID then you can unlock the iphone X by holding it up to your face without the need of looking at it directly.

Obviously its a stupid idea to drive and play with your phone at the same time...

The solution to all of this is to ditch the car and get a motorbike.

1) Much faster, no more waiting in traffic
2) Less fuel usage
3) Much more interaction with the road, forcing you to pay attention
4) A much better all around experience
5) No radio to pair the phone to, and who needs one
2) No need to use GPS, if you get lost you're having too much fun to care.

You don't need bluetooth to answer your phone, nor do you have to unlock it to answer your phone. So your points make no sense.

You clearly just want to hate the iPhone X for no real reason.

Lol i am not hating X honestly. For navigation purposes i need to unlock iphone and for music too.

I see cops here in FL who use there phones all the time while driving.

I have no idea what your point is here by saying this. If law enforcement Officers do take a phone call, they pull off to the side of the roadway. Not just for the sake of being scrutinized by the public for not doing so, but for setting the example to others. There are times where they likely have to answer their phone while driving, but they are not the exception to safety standards.

This is actually the ONLY acceptable position on this issue. Put down the phone and drive. Don't put the lives of others at risk because you're too selfish to just drive now and play with/on your phone later.

How am I supposed to be navigated?
