These are the mistakes that undermine Apple's central and most important argument in the fight against opening the App Store. The argument is that only the Apple App Store can provide crucial security to its users. If they cannot provide this security, they will soon lose this argument in more and more countries.

Imagine this (and others) on an app store not under Apple's control.
End users would be more vigilant since alternative app stores won't make the claim of being super safe havens. Apple makes it sound like everything in the AppStore has passed Apple's "rigorous" inspection process and is perfectly safe to download and use.

This is a classic throw the baby out with the bath water argument. One bad app gets through and it’s curtains for apples review process. How many bad apps were stopped?

That’s some truly twisted logic. “Only Apple can keep us safe, as evidenced by the security breach in Apple’s App Store.”
Seems just as twisted as being concerned about a "security breach" while advocating that its solution isn't necessary.

If there were MORE stores, that were NOT directly under Apple’s control, this would happen… less? Or More?

Because, Apple is saying it would happen more. And, Apple would not be in a position to remove it. This kind of thing actually makes Apple’s point.
No it doesn't. If there were more App Stores Apple would be forced to get security correct rather than it just being a marketing thing. Apple could no longer just tell people the App Store is secure, it would have to actually be secure. That is what competition actually does.

Some of you guys act as if you are perfect and never make a mistake...lol

Yep. That speaks to some people really believing there's 100% perfection 100% of the time in systems where humans and technology are involved.

The good news is the force of gravity and planet Earth rotating into the Sun's rays every 24 hours do have an excellent perfection track record. And that's about it.

You can't and don't know this. Fear mongering at its best.

People don’t bother to read past headlines online and you REALLY believe they’re going to do research on where they want to download apps from? If you really believe people are going to be “more vigilant” thanks to alternative app stores, you might be shocked at just how truly LAZY people are…and how little they know about technology.

And this is a prime example to point to when people say that the Apple App store keeps them safe and why side loading should be banned.
It is proof that relaying on the Apple App store to keep you safe is a dumb idea as a user. The best defense is your own brain.
As an App developer I known for years that Apple's review is nothing more than basically monkies poking around the app making sure you follow the rules. It is also super easy to get around the things.
Basically if you want to do some hacking and stealing of infomation the App store gives a false sense of security to users and easy to get around.

It's more of a Rorschach test then a prime example. I see Apple removing a security risk within a day to be a success of the App Store model.

How can I not know this? I use the PlayStore on android almost exclusively for downloading apps. I suspect every app until I feel it's not a security risk to me. Where is the fear mongering for users to be vigilant? I have always said the best security is between the ears. This is why I never use McAfee (McAfee anti-virus IS malware😒 in my eye) garbage on my Windows machine.

If you want to blithely assume everything on the AppStore is safe, no skin off my nose.🤭

Exactly. A few bad apps sneak in and it gets headlines.

But what about the 100,000 bad apps that Apple rejected completely? Nobody ever talks about that.

Good news... Apple removed this fake LastPass app. 👍

Would 3rd-party app stores do the same? Will 3rd-party app stores have any review process at all?

🤔

That’s some truly twisted logic. “Only Apple can keep us safe, as evidenced by the security breach in Apple’s App Store.”
It's not twisted logic; it's sound logic. If there is only one App Store for iOS, there is only one method for sketchy apps to get onto devices. If there are multiple app stores, there are multiple methods for sketchy apps to get onto devices. The set {App Store OR app store X} is bigger than the set {App Store}, unless app store X gains apps that Apple's App Store loses. In that case, it's a wash. There are, however, more methods for sketchy apps to get onto devices with more app stores.

That is unless the alternative app stores have better review methods than the App Store (which is possible, but not an automatic given). Even if the app stores have better review methods, it's unlikely they will be perfect. In that case, there will automatically be more sketchy apps getting through if those app stores have apps that do not appear in Apple's App Store. It could also be possible for sketchy app stores to get created and be used on iOS.

I'm in favor of multiple app stores on iOS, but it's logical to understand that more options gives more potential for abuse.

Don’t need the EU for this one 😂😂 but makes wonder what types of spam apps will lurk on the alternative app stores.
If anything, alternative app stores might be more secure. The store does not need to have millions of apps (like App Store does). It may focus on the essential apps and do a better job with app selection and validation.
