If every father in this country was equally as concerned with who their kids are growing up to be, we would by far be in a better place.

But if this father's video is any indication of his brand of parental discipline -- responding to immature behavior with his own immature behavior -- then you have to wonder how he treats his kid when he's not on camera.

Parenting involves talking to your kids -- sometimes talking to them until you're bleeding from the ears, trying to get through. I hope this guy got his rocks off, because he just made the situation between him and his daughter infinitely worse. He thinks she disrespected him before? At least that disrespect was meant to be limited to her Facebook friends. This guy -- a supposed IT professional -- didn't think his hillbilly justice video response could end up going viral? Huh. He's just accelerated his daughter's attitude from disrespect to downright hate.

Smart parenting there, "dad".

It's hard to say. We have no idea what their relationship is outside this video (obviously). I'm not sure I would say this is overly immature though - he clearly thought about this.

My main concern is he doesn't come across as loving in the slightest bit, but, again its hard to say. I think this video could be pulled off either incredibly well or poorly, depending on the home interactions...

I'd be bloody scared if he was my Dad... In any situation that there's a horrible brat of a kid, it all goes back through to the parents and how they behave. And if he were to shoot a laptop he just spent $$$'s on, and if he's an IT technician, takes the parts out, then shoot the laptop! :p

How do you know he didn't?

the guy is an idiot ... and has caused a serious setback into having a future relationship with his daughter.

He has risked losing her for many years with such a jerk reaction.

Since when did an IT professional run a clinic? :shifty:
Yeah, that's another part of the whole thing that sounds fishy.

If it were not for the fact that dad has pretty much blown any relationship with his daughter, I'd say these folks all need to be in counseling, because there's more going on here than what we're seeing.

The parenting issues are too involved for me to comment upon. Too many unknowns.

I have very strong feelings about gun control, also.

However, having said that, as much as I have problems with the availability of handguns - In this instance I think the gun was put to good use,

Whether it will improve or further deteriorate the man's relationship with his daughter, I don't know. Whether there was any positive way to improve the relationship - I also don't know, as I don't know enough about the history or present status of the relationship beyond the side expressed by the father in the video.

But as far as the use of the gun goes, I have to admit a certain guilty pleasure in seeing him remodel the computer.

Judging from the way the father said the daughter has done something like this multiple times in the past, plus the blatant amount of disrespect she shows in her post, I'd say anything less then the actions taken in this video wouldn't have even made her flinch. This isn't disgusting, it's good parenting.

And he's not advocating anything to anyone. He said parents should take stricter actions against their disrespectul kids, which is absolutely true.

Really, anyone who takes offense to this just makes me think that they were probably just like that daughter themselves and can just sympathize with her better.

Adults are expected to act with greater maturity than their kids. This guy did not do so. He's the cliche of the derogatory term redneck, and you can tell he did this out of anger. That's not healthy, and it won't teach his daughter anything positive. All it shows is that when you're the one in charge, it can be a free pass to act like a jackass. Girls are difficult to deal with, but there are better ways than this.

I personally think this is dumb. The radio shows were saying that since he is an IT professional, he knows how to get into people's facebook accounts, so she should've known better...completely stupid.

So he installed $130 worth of software onto a computer that he shot and is requiring her to pay him back. Why didn't he either sell the laptop or block facebook from her computer? There are much bigger problems than looking to see what someone is writing on a facebook wall.

I'm sure he took out most of the internal parts

What a sad state that family is in.

I think both father and daughter are jackasses.

agreed. at least the daughter has the excuse of being a typical teenager if you ask me. there are some big issues with this family. wonder if this will land them on Dr. Phil.

this guy is the man. more parents need to be like him. little **** teenagers need to learn some respect nowadays

Umm...this is why I'm not a parent. :)

Being in the creative field, I would might have done something similar.

IMO, this was not the wrong thing to do. Kids get it when you speak to them on their level. And Dad just did.

I feel sorry for her, sometimes people need to blow off some steam by complaining about things going on in their lives. She was probably having a bad day and just decided to whine about her parents to get a little support from friends. Dad seems like a jerk to me, completely overreacted and needs to grow up.

Now instead of her deleting the status once her bad mood passed, no harm done, she's going to be having a crappy month because her Dad called her out in front of thousands of people. What she did was wrong but there are more appropriate ways this could have been handled.

Do you think taking a gun and shooting exploding bullets in to a laptop is ok?... How about then filming it so that over a million people can see it?

Oh wait a minute he was teaching his 15 year old daughter an important life lesson so its ok... I guess now everyone will need a gun to teach their children lessons.

Maybe some of the daughters friends will think they'll need a gun too... Maybe they'll use those guns on something more than a laptop... Maybe the daughter so enraged with her fathers actions will take the same gun and teach him a lesson... Maybe she'll film that too.

What do you think?

I see what you're saying. But having dealt with a friend of mine's rebellious teen lately, this kind of thing seems to work. She did something similar. Nothing was working. He said he didn't care what she said or what she did. Then she got to the friends like this Dad did, and poof! Better behavior.

Now he's back on track. And thank god for that.

I will give you an A for effort but that is the most unrealistic conclusion I have ever heard. No kid will take what you said out of this video.

Being a good parent means sometimes you have to be the bad guy. I think when a parent is the best friend, there is usually a problem. His actions with this may have caused a week, month, or even years of a good relationship, but if he taught his daughter the important life values he is going for, then he is being a good parent. She should treat others with respect. She should be kind and willing to help around the house. I agree that maybe his exact execution could be a little off, but no one is perfect, and he is trying to do the best he can. Hopefully, she will realize that sooner rather than later.
