Boss!

I feel no sympathy for the brat. I know what real discipline is like and i know its what really plants your feet on the ground. There are far too many self-entitled asshats nowadays.

Of course this action might have taught his daughter, to sort her future problems out with a gun.:(

So many bleeding hearts here... too many parents these days don't care, and their kids grow up into what this country is becoming, a lazy, disrespectful, and less productive society that relies on the charity of others to survive. I can guarantee you this... this girl got the message, and will be better off for it down the line.

So true, and it's not just the States...Same over here, how are kids EVER going to learn any values if the parents don't take the lead?

Adults are expected to act with greater maturity than their kids. This guy did not do so. He's the cliche of the derogatory term redneck, and you can tell he did this out of anger. That's not healthy, and it won't teach his daughter anything positive. All it shows is that when you're the one in charge, it can be a free pass to act like a jackass. Girls are difficult to deal with, but there are better ways than this.

You're under the illusion that he does something like this everytime his daughter does something disrespectful. Not the case. He states in the video that she's done this in the past and he's punished her strictly (grounding her for months), but it's clear that she's the hard headed stubborn type that doesn't learn lessons the easy way. If this doesn't teach her a lesson, nothing in life will. He did this as a final act of punishment. Her post was the final straw on the camel's back, so to speak. You seriously cannot be using "girls are difficult to deal with" as an excuse to be disrespectful...

And really? You think this video -REALLY- shows that if you're the one in charge, you can act like a jackass? Where in the world did you pull this idea out of? I could maybe understand if the video didn't explain anything and all he said was "mah daughter is a little runt, and here's her punishment". Then yes, it would show something like that. Obviously not the case.

Of course he's angry. If I had a son who showed so much disrespect towards me, I'd be pretty ********* furious. But you can also feel the huge amount of disappointment he feels and sadness at how his daughter turned out to be. He didn't do this out of blinding rage, like you suggest, he did this with carefully thought out reasons.

LOL - he even charged his daughter $1 each for the bullets, like when they execute people in China (the family of the convict has to pay). :D

Anyone else who sees the resemblance to Chuck Norris, btw? 'Cause the eyes of a ranger are upon you... any wrong you do, he's gonna see...

According to facebook and twitter, I'm the only person alive that didn't instantly give this guy a standing ovation. While I certainly appreciate his frustration, I think shooting his daughter's laptop with a .45 and then posting it on YouTube so the whole world can see it is over the top, and not necessarily done solely for her benefit. He was clearly pissed, as he kept repeating certain parts over and over ("you want us to pay you? really?! really?!" etc).

I think the sentiment was correct in that she definitely needed a reality check, but yeah, I'm one of those that thinks using a gun like that in anger sends the wrong message. Destroying something just to make a point also seems counter-productive in general.

Kids don't turn out bratty and privileged overnight, so if she's as bad as he's saying, he has a healthy amount of blame for it. That said, I think the message he's trying to send will be lost when she's publicly humiliated by the video - at school, in her city, on the internet, etc.

I agree with many of you in thinking kids need stronger discipline, I just don't think this was the way to go about it. It makes for an amusing internet video, not a shining example of good parenting.

Not a clever reaction. The Facebook posting was trivial teenage stuff, the father's reaction was idiotic and dangerous, setting a very bad example to his daughter about how to deal with problems. He needs professional help.

Clearly you know the whole history of the relationship and how it built up to this event, so your analysis is spot on....

I know what I have seen in the video, and what it is like bringing up teenagers, and what it was like to be one. Do I need any more to form an opinion?

Talk about antagonism between parents and children... I can understand the father's frustration, though, over getting dissed right after helping his daughter set up the computer and paying $$$ for the software. Then again, there must be something wrong with the upbringing in the first place since it got this far at all.

I don't see what's "dangerous" here, but I dislike the way he used a firearm to destroy the computer. Guns aren't toys, and there's better use for ammo than this.

What is dangerous, in my opinion, is the irresponsible use of a firearm (with hollow point ammunition, no less), and the implied lesson that rather than recognising and dealing with an unpleasant or frustrating reality, at least partly of one's own making, the solution is to shoot one's way out. When she turns up with his .45 and says "I warned you, but you wouldn't listen", before emptying nine rounds into him, she'll only be following his example.

I get your point. And although there's a major difference between vandalism and homicide, maybe she will follow example by putting a few rounds in her father's favourite "toy" - namely the step mother whom she obviously lives with.

What an arsehat to treat your 15 year old daughter like that and to guarantee she'll grow up hating him.

He is hardly a role model himself with a fag and coke habit. His sniffles and verbosity make his dedication to the peruvian marching powder fairly obvious. Add a .45, home on a schoolday, (work in IT- yeah right) a dismissive and lying attitude, (one minute tops- yeah right), a lack of respect for her privacy, and complete lack of empathy to hormonal rollercoaster that is adolescence. If you are going to put yourself on film yourself and put it on your daughters Facebook wall at least refrain from doing a line or two beforehand and do without the cigarette.

What a complete and utter ****. Family services and the Police are probably watching this with great interest and a bit of a chuckle at this yokel's behaviour.

Being a good parent means sometimes you have to be the bad guy. I think when a parent is the best friend, there is usually a problem. His actions with this may have caused a week, month, or even years of a good relationship, but if he taught his daughter the important life values he is going for, then he is being a good parent. She should treat others with respect. She should be kind and willing to help around the house. I agree that maybe his exact execution could be a little off, but no one is perfect, and he is trying to do the best he can. Hopefully, she will realize that sooner rather than later.

This is my hope as well.

Maybe it's a small hope... but it's there :)

I'm sure you'd be angry. If you're more intelligent than the person depicted there, you'd wait until your anger subsides to think of a punishment. Okay he grounded her for months and whatever else. Punishment failed and she likes him less than before. She vents on facebook. Just escalating things further doesn't solve anything. It will just make her dislike him. He already messed up, and he's just messing up further here taking the logic of beating someone into submission and applying it to their possessions. If you can't see this I'm not sure what to say. I wonder how he treats his wife.

That's the stupidest and most immature reaction one could display.

He could have made her daughter regret what she was doing by behaving like a real parent.

But he is her father, so that action is legitimate. I can understand he was mad, but that video can only get things worse.

My point exactly

He is not acting like a parent... More like an angry child

Do you think taking a gun and shooting exploding bullets in to a laptop is ok?... How about then filming it so that over a million people can see it?

Oh wait a minute he was teaching his 15 year old daughter an important life lesson so its ok... I guess now everyone will need a gun to teach their children lessons.

Maybe some of the daughters friends will think they'll need a gun too... Maybe they'll use those guns on something more than a laptop... Maybe the daughter so enraged with her fathers actions will take the same gun and teach him a lesson... Maybe she'll film that too.

What do you think?

With all of the violence in our movies, television, and video games now, and the complete lack of respect in media and politics for each other and people in general, this is a HUUUUUUUUUGE stretch. Maybe maybe maybe maybe. This is not an issue at all. Only a story because the media made it one.
