While his reaction may have been a little over the top, this is about the only kind of thing that gets a teenager's attention these days. So many parents these days think just saying "no" over and over will actually work. Or "Oh, Johnny, don't do that. That was bad!" Sometimes, you gotta shove in their face the problem they have caused, and make them actually feel bad. Else, they grow up knowing that there are no REAL consequences for their actions. Time out as a sole punishment is crap.

This is one of the reasons my ex and I broke up. I had a much harder view on child discipline than she did (we didn't have kids, but the discussion did come along in future planning). She was basically the type who thought that you never do ANYTHING to a child more than time out. When time out wouldn't work, then it's just kids being kids, and you have to let them do what they are doing until they learn by some other magical happenstance. To her, discipline was out of the question.

And this kind of came to light many years later (last year I believe), when a televised tennis match was interrupted by a crying baby on a couple of occasions. Why there was a crying baby at a pro tennis match, I have no idea. Anyway, one of the players, out of complete frustration, batted a ball in the general direction of the crying baby. It wasn't a hard hit or anything. Her reaction in a facebook post was equivalent to someone frying her child with laser beams then pissing on the remains.

And no, I don't yet have kids. But in two months I will. I was brought up with actual discipline, and I plan on doing the same (no, I do not mean beating my kid).

Sure yeah, I was spanked for my disobedience and constantly threatened to be sent to a juvenile probation camp, but you know, it was all for the greater good. Sure I might have a tendency to be abusive and thus have issues retaining relationships, but I'm a better man.

But you know, kids say stupid things and react with little thought. This is what teaches them to think, even if it seems "cruel".

Wtf?

i am ignoring him because so far he has said completely weird things in 2 posts.

In the NZ girl thread he asks if the guy has done it yet.

And than this.

He is the 1st person this year who is going on my ignore list. Congrats to him!

But he's only 11 days old, or less.

Does this represent a modern-day record for you?

age doesn't matter, the quality of the things said does.

And I only have 1 user on my ignore list so far and its really hard to get on there so somebody most be posting very ridiculous stuff to get on there.

I'm beginning to think the ppl against the Dad are the ones that also believe the parents are there to give you anything you ask for all the time. I'm also beginning to think those same ppl have never used a gun at all, i've shot with a 9mm since i was 13 because my dad thought i was responsible enough and wanted me to learn how to use one in case i needed to (he had threats made to him by the guerilla back then, the peace accord was signed in 96 when i was 16) and i see no big deal on him shooting his own property.

Should he have shot it? i'd say no, he shouldn't have offered/threatened to do it the last time he had her grounded in the first place, he should've said he would sell it or give it to charity, probably would've been more effective as well.

I have a nephew that my brother and his wife let him do anything he wants, he's the brattiest kid i've ever known and he's not 2yrs old yet :(

Awesome video, and kudos to dad.

I'm a father and I know, no matter how much you try to instill values and respect, sometimes it doesn't stick.

His use of a firearm is disturbing

This is neither cool or what a parent should be advocating

Disgusting

I dont understand why you posted this. Yeah I'm sure it's not the best idea to be pointing the gun at the ground but I think it's a great thing done by the father. He should have stepped on it and smashed the crap out of it after he shot it but I liked video. I do not disagree with that father in any regard. I love this video!
