Y'all know i'm a ford guy. Love the mustang, the GT, the fusion, escape, various hybrids coming out. Bill Ford's a cool guy, very smart, has great ideas for the future of transportation. I only wish he didn't have to impress share holders and could just do what he wants with the company, it would do a lot of good for the world. But he's making a start, putting a huge focus on innovation and research into new technologies, calling for 250,000 hybrids a year by 2010, they've got a couple hydrogen powered focuses running around, recently announced plans to team up with Boeing on nanotech research... Good investments for the future of the company, while they're stocks will probably keep going down for a while, until they close some plants, match up their capacity to their lower demand.
And the other companies that fall under their umbrella are awesome.
-Aston Martin... i honestly think these are the nicest looking cars in the world.
-Jag, the new XK is saweet, love the hatch.
-Mazda, great every day cars, nice style, the 6,3 the RX8 is hot and a very special different car
-Volvo, nice style, love the s40 and v50, xc70
-Land Rover... well... solid trucks, too bad the only people that buy 'em don't actually need 'em. Except maybe those crazy savannah biologists in their defenders. I wish i was a savannah biologist....

i also really dig citroën/peugeot, bmw, alfa, and Fisker seems to be off to a great start.

VW and Audi for me.

My dad has mostly had Audis, had a really nice one when I was a wee nipper, so I always associated any Audi car with my dad, something comforting, homey and personal about them to me.

My siblings and I have all had VWs as our first cars and now my brother has a new Golf GT TDI.

Just love the cars!

I agree the Ford Motor Company family of brands are great vehicles and they are using Mazda and Volvo to help bring all of their products up. I looked at the new Ford Fusion and a Mercury Milan yesterday as I was waiting on my oil change and it is a homerun. It will compete with any midsized sedan on the market right now. Excellent vehicle.

I agree with the thoughts about Bill Ford as well. I recently listened to his speech where he laid out his vision for the company. It was excellent. He has such passion for the company. It is rare to see that with most CEO's.

:D

I am obsessed with BMW, not for the status symbol but for the driving experience. I haven't driven another car in that price range that is nearly as fun to drive as a Bimmer. Sure, our Mercedes-Benz is significantly more powerful and prestigious but when I go back to my BMW I feel right at home, almost as if the car was designed just for me.

I like Mercedes-Benz too but not as much as BMW. I do not like any non-European car brands.

I would never buy a BMW 7-Series or a Mercedes-Benz S-Class though, in that price range the Maserati Quattroporte is the obvious choice.

Blah, that Quattroporte has to be the ugliest car on the market. I realize that is subjective, but seriously, they could have done so much more with the styling.

Styling is definitely subjective. I think its the most beautiful car ever made.

Definitely subjective, but the most beautiful? Wow.... ;)

I think the Cayenne has really nice engines available for it, but it is so ugly. It reminds me of a bug.

The interior could be improved upon considering the price tag of the car.

I just posted this in another thread, but it seems much more appropriate here. This is the results of a survey that Consumer Reports did with it's readers to judge the reliability of most major carmakers. You'll be surprised by the results.

Of course, this does nothing to evaluate the relative value of a car (i.e. styling, engineering, service) but It will give you a good idea about how often the car will breakdown (in the big picture - everyone has anecdotal evidence that their car didn't fit this profile).

I have always had one problem with these surveys: What if Mercedes, Hummer, Jaguar, BMW, Mini, Saab, Porsche, and Cadillac (who are all at the bottom of that list) got a bad rating on this survey because people who pay so much for their cars have much higher and more stringent standards for their cars, as they're paying a lot more money?

I know this doesn't explain why Lexus tops the list (actually, the top 3 positions are all Toyotas  ), and I'm not saying that Lexus Toyota doesn't deserve their ranking. They probably ARE that reliable and function better than other cars on the road. However, maybe a lot of the brands I previously mentioned wouldn't be at the bottom of the list if 1 or 2 breakdowns of their car didn't result in such angry owners. If my Hyundai had a problem, I'd still give Hyundai a great rating because I've been happy over the 7 months I've owned this car. However, if a BMW had a problem after 7 months, they would probably think that they shouldn't be having any problems after having spent so much money.

Maybe if the expectations were "level" across ALL brands and companies, BMW and Merc would rank closer to the middle (although not at the top, since some of the people who voted negatively towards these companies are genuinely peeved), while cheaper companies where the expectations aren't as high, would rank closer to the bottom?

Exactly. I think this is a well known point among the more luxurious brands however there is little they can do to improve their numbers because the way that the figures are taken are out of their personal control....and take into account even the slightest of ''repairs''.

I think that Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc all have excellent reliability and functionality however they are crippled by their user base and the trend to complain and ''repair'' the slightest noise or disturbance. Either way, regardless of the reports I will still always buy German autos, I hate the finish and fine touches on American vehicles.

That said, as you can guess:
Porsche/Audi/VW is awesome love most all of their stuff.
BMW is great too.

My wife and I have always had good luck with Hondas. I've also heard enough good things about Toyotas from friends and family that I'm sure I'd be happy with one of their cars as well.

In the fantasy, money-is-no-object, world, it would be nice to have a Porsche, Jaguar or BMW. Well, I say it would be nice; I've never actually driven any of those cars. Maybe they only look nice. ;)

Go Land Rover! Don't make fun of it just because it is the looser (this time  ) , because they are such beautiful cars.

Though it looks to me like a cross between these three cars

Milan v.s. Octavia + Cordoba + Jetta (Bora)
The Milan is great, sadly it looks like a photochop of the Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta, and Seat Cordoba. The vibe the milan gives me also looks much like the older A6 or Passat. I am sure it will be a nice car, but the styling isn't really new. I guess that is one of the things that can happen when your chief designer moves to an other company :( .

If you have only owned VW and Audis, how do you know they're the best?

Honda is my favorite.
I am a big fan of German cars, specially Mercedes Benz and Audi.

As for really fancy cars, I really like the look of Aston Martins and Maseratis. I've never driven one, though :( .
