"It’s better to **** your pants than to die of constipation."

"Basically there are two types of designers: helicopters and vending machines. The helicopters fly around the landscape, zooming in to investigate, backing off to get a better panoramic view. On the other hand vending machines tend to be inert until someone shoves money in the slot. They then produce a buzzing, whirring and clanking, until out pops a product. It is invariably the same as the previous one, and will be the same as the next. The only difference is the next is usually staler." - Jay Doblin

A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand.

Indeed, but, as mobilehaathi notes so perceptively below, surely coffee - strong, rich, robust - factors in to what might be considered as a balanced diet?

A wise man with supreme insight. But surely coffee factors into a balanced diet too?

Supreme insight acknowledged, (but I add to the concept of what might be considered a balanced diet a sufficiency of Comte, Roquefort and Camembert cheese, (among others), washed down by rich red luscious Ripasso, and augmented by a sturdy but yet elegantly smooth, espresso….)

"The belief that God will do everything for man is as untenable as the belief that man can do everything for himself. It, too, is based on a lack of faith. We must learn that to expect God to do everything while we do nothing is not faith but superstition." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Haven't posted here in a while, here are a few more:

"For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

"If idiots could fly, this place would be an airport."

"If you can't explain it simply, you don't know it well enough." - Albert Einstein

"Don’t carry your mistakes around with you. Instead, place them under your feet and use them as stepping stones to rise above them."

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes."

"There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind." -Kurt Vonnegut

Every single person you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always. -I don't know who

"You are entitled to absolutely nothing. You only have what you work to own, and that's all you ever will have. And never, under any circumstances, ever trust the government." -My grandma.

"I wish I had known I was going to die today. If I had known that, I would have had dessert last night after dinner."

You know you're one hell of an intellectual when your two favorite quotes are from songs…

"Listen, Ana, here my words / they're the ones you would think I would say / if there was a me for you" —John Linnell of TMBG

"Cupid put too much poison in the dart" —Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields

A great one,

"Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better"

It is absolutely correct. freedom spurred the industrial revolution so freedom is everything.

"Teach thy tongue to say 'I do not know,' and thou shalt progress."
—Maimonides

I also like the following bit from the song "The Day No One Needed to Know" by Moneen:

Sing for love
Sing for laughter
Sing for everyone here and after
Sing for fear
Sing for hatred
Sing for everyone less than sacred
Sing for life
Sing for choices
Sing for everyone without voices

...
"I have made this letter longer than usual, because I lack the time to make it short."
— Blaise Pascal

My late wife was a public policy analyst, and wrote for a living. She was very very good at what she did, and more than once her boss would apologize for tight deadlines that didn't let my wife write a short briefing note. She could take someone else's 20 page document and turn it into 2 pages with losing any real content. I hadn't realized that it was a quote as well. Thank You.

My two favourite quotes:

"Don't judge a village by its idiot, every village has one. Judge a village by how it treats its idiot."

The second quote is my signature below.

My pleasure.:D

I really like the quote because, as your wife's very valuable skill makes clear...editing is an essential, of oft neglected, skill.

This reminds me of another of my favorites:
"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." - Alfred, Lord Tennyson

I know it's not a quote persay, but my favorite poem is "Eldorado" by Edgar Allan Poe:

Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of Eldorado.

But he grew old-
This knight so bold-
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like Eldorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be-
This land of Eldorado?"

"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied-
"If you seek for Eldorado!"
