Did they really add a provision that States can't make their own rules? And would that really stand in court? I think only Congress would have such authority, not the FCC, and AFAIK there was no vote on it?
I hope States will be able to fight back, I know they are already preparing to take action here in WA.

To be fair to a bunch of fools who don't deserve it, I believe this is pretty standard in the regulatory context because of the nightmare various different standards in 50 states + territories can create. Lot's of complicated law here, but generally speaking, yes Federal Regs can tell states to step out.

Doesn't that strike people as a problem? All of this stuff being done in the executive level that can be repealed by a subsequent administration.

We need congress to get on the ball and create laws that are not as easily rolled back.

It's a problem but until the congress pulls it's head out of it's 4th point of contact it's all we have. Americans really need give themselves a goods long look in the mirror before they go to the polls an vote next time, we are the only ones that can fix the problem.

There is only one side that broke our government.

The side where a political party worked with Russia to fabricate a document, then the husband of the fabricator was put in change of the investigation for the FBI who then also worked with Russia to 'confirm' the validity of the fabricated document resulting in a patrician independent prosecutor???

Broke like that?

Yes, finally all the fear mongering from the left can stop. The world will continue to spin and innovation will not be hindered by Obama era regulation.

Yes, everything Obama = bad. Everything Trump = good. Stop the political crap and think. Innovation will definitely be hindered by this rule.

Say I want to start up a new website to compete with AT&T-owned DirecTV NOW. AT&T will make my service slower, thus making DirecTV NOW seem much better. This was not allowed previously - all content had to be treated the same.

AT&T later says I'll have to pay them $10,000 a day to make my content the same priority. Really? For a startup? This type of thing will definitely hinder innovation.

I can also imagine politics getting involved. How would you like if Verizon, say, decided to make Foxnews.com and all conservative sites work at 300 baud, while all other liberal sites could go full speed? This effectively silences a party's voice. That's allowed with this new rule, which wasn't allowed before.

Net neutrality is freedom. This is definitely not.

I don't think there is a sane person on the planet who didn't think the internet worked pretty well prior to 2015 allowing things like MacRumors, Netflix, ect. to come into existence.

Allowed Netflix to come into existence, yes. They were doing their damnedest to fix that error though, which is one of the things that brought forth the 2015 regulations.

HRC was a corrupt piece of ****. Sure maybe NN would have survived but she didn’t deserve the presidency either. I pray the American people wake up and demand quality, honest, hard working, proven candidates who have shown through action they care about the American people above all else in future elections. No more of this well they suck but they are on team so I’ll vote for them.

There is one, but he'll be 79 in 2020.

I love this line of argument that Pai and his corporate overlords use, as if the lack of past bad behavior is indicative of future good behavior. It's also a fantasy, since Comcast and the other ISPs have been sued/fined numerous times by the FCC for anti-competitive and anti-consumer practices. Now I guess we're supposed to file a complaint with the FTC when Comcast screws us over, and they'll maybe get to it eventually after the other 57304759430503895 things they have to deal with.

Huh? So all of the 'innovation' that occurred between the inception of the internet through 2015 was 'hindered'?

So hindered we have companies like Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google, Apple, Uber, eBay, ect? Hindered like that?

Enjoy the fear mongering.

Guess the internet didn't work at all or wasn't conducive to innovation prior to 2015...right?

LOL... educate yourself man. There are COUNTLESS times prior to 2015 where ISP's have throttled and blocked companies based on the type of traffic they produce. Netflix had to pay ISP's to get their speeds increased. Look it up on Google.

See this is the problem... most Trump supporters just simply don't bother to look at the past and see what happened. They just see "less regulation" as being good.

When you get the shaft by your ISP, don't come crying.

All the more reason to use Space X, congrats, you played yourselves.

I assume you're referring to StarLink?

That's nice but... it doesn't exist yet. And the main thing that'll be nice is it'll be competition. Right now in 90% of the country, internet providers are running regional monopolies. You'll be screwed by one of Comcast or Verizon or Time Warner or (insert other internet providers here), but you can't change who's screwing you, so there's no motivation for the one who is screwing you to do anything to keep you. You can get the internet through them, or you can't get it at all.

Enjoy this coming to America:

Where was this before NN was enacted in 2015?

We'll leave the HRC insanity aside and pretend like you mean this. I'll believe it when I see GOP-ers or otherwise stop getting behind Trump/Roy Moore candidates. Until then, I think it's pretty fair for me to assume you're all more willing to burn it down then play like adults who compromise.

So it will be the same mess as it was pre 2015, oh wait it wasn't a mess then and it won't now...

But those bills that went down after 2015 will go back up now, oh wait they didn't go down after 2015...

But, but, but Trump's an idiot so everything he approves, we disapprove even though it really isn't that big of a deal.

I recently moved from the big city to a small town, and as such went from 300MB/s broadband to using my cell phone exclusively for Internet. There aren't any services providers in this area that can match the speed of my ATT cell service. Given I run our software engineering group it's not unusual for me to consume 300+ GB of data over my cell -- however since I'm in the middle of nowhere ATT doesn't throttle as there's no congestion.

I have to wonder if that will all change now...

Please elaborate on the business and technical merits that brought about the conflict between Verizon and Netflix (Level3). Would very much enjoy how enforcing peering agreements 'hindered' Netflix and/or its growth.

I'm really interested in watching the consequences of this unfold; one of the many I expected from the USA under Donald Trump (I hoped against but predicted he'd win, given my observations of American social dynamics over the last 25 years).

I'm keeping my exit strategy updated, just in case the time to jump ship comes about suddenly. This is given the fact that all the lobbying, petitioning, protesting, tweeting, exposing, and fact reporting that has gone on has amounted to FORK ALL.

I'm beginning to understand how moderate Germans felt when the Nazi Party started taking over, scratching their heads the whole time going: "How did this happen?!"
