Our conversation was moved to this new thread for being off topic, yet the article stays on the front page. Interesting.

You know, I was in the habit to check MR once a day or every couple of days for some years. I loved the quality of the articles, and what the content was. But, since Jordan became an editor, I spend much less time checking MR now. I can guess who wrote the article by just reading the title, that's how bad its gotten. Jordan has an odd style of writing and covers obscure content, plain and simple. I enjoy Eric's articles, and Arn's are always what I expect. The day I see an article from Arn about how iPad's are used in Nascar is the day I'll ask for my account to be deleted and never return to this site. It's also funny how I never see Eric comment on an article, as opposed to Jordan, who seems to have a temper when there is this much criticism. It's sad that these posts had to be moved out of the original thread, yet the garbage article about Nascar remains on the front page, and we all know who to blame for that.

I don't have a problem if his articles are the mac blog or iOS blog, but having articles like this on the front page is just pure nonsense.

I criticize MacRumors for having this article on their front page and you delete it. That really speaks to the character.

I have to say, I was a little surprised to see this article on the front page too. There's nothing really wrong with it per se, but it is different.

Then I read this...
I'll be happy to try! I was at the Iowa race anyway and saw Dave using the iPad, struck up a conversation and this story was the result. But yeah, you're right. We simply don't have the budget to send reporters out into the field to write stories about things like this.

That said, we both had a lot of fun with it and I hope to continue it as a bit of a series -- interesting folks using iPads in interesting ways. Pitches welcome: jlgolson@macrumors.com
...And re-read the original article. It all started to make sense.

Doesn't bother me at all anymore, and it does seem more relevant than I first suspected. Sometimes it's just a matter of seeing the method behind the madness, I suppose.

I'd rather have an irrelevant story about an iPad used in NASCAR than a story about an Apple Store in bumf whereverville on the Front Page like they used to be.

Who cares what's on the front page? You don't have to read the article.

How come MR rarely posts stories after 1pmish. & not on weekends ? But other sites do

After 1pm- Stories are posted after 1pm all the time. It's important to note that the time on the story byline is Pacific time (I believe). For instance, the NASCAR was posted at 11:28am PT, so on the East Coast, it was 2:28pm.

Weekend- Usually it's the lack of rumors/ leaks/ stories given that it's the weekend.

EDIT:

As of right now, I count 6 stories that were posted after 1pm Eastern out of 12 stories on the FP.

I am a licensed wordsmith. The title of the article is awkward. Those who would say otherwise should go back to school and take English 101. My previous middle school English teacher would have circled the word "speeds" in red pen, and written in shorthand: "Awk!".

No one likes redneck NASCAR. Driving in circles X times.

Give Mac news! And MR post at nights and weekends like Appleinsider and 9to5mac

Seen as no one outside the US of A knows what NASCAR is then this article is pointless.

Is it that Tom Cruise film?

Are you speaking for the rest of the world? I watch a lot of international motor sports (F1, V8 Supercars, WRC) and there's always references or quick discussions about NASCAR or IndyCar.

I read a lot of international motorsports forums where NASCAR is a regular topic.

So you'd rather Arn & Co. held back posts so you have something to read on the ******* after work?

"Awkward" is being kind.

No [feces]. I got no less than 17 downvotes for pointing out this, which means there was probably a kernel of truth in it :D

Wow. So macrumors is deleting comments now?

Looks like I'll need to repeat myself: Am I missing something? Why is this on the front page of MacRumors?

She should be fired? Would speeds up been marked wordy?

No one who has criticized this title has ever written anything that was published anywhere.

You mean you got no fewer than 17 downvotes.:D
I wasn't criticizing grammar, but choice of word. "Eases" would have been more correct than "speeds up" although that wouldn't make any fancy pun in this context.

I can actually use "less than" in front of a plural noun that denotes a measure of time, distance or amount. Although downvotes are countable, I see them as a measure of awesomeness for a specific posting - hence the alleged confusion between "fewer" and "less". Would you say "no less than 20 points" or "no fewer than 20 points"?

Huh?

Yes, they delete a lot of posts here.

1. Because this site is for Apple Rumors and News (see the logo?).
2. Industries/occupations embracing Apple technology should be news for those that follow Apple
2. NASCAR is the most watched sport in the U.S. Not like this is some podunk local dirt track time keeper who started using one.
3. Just because YOU don't think something is news doesn't the mean the tens of thousands of other people here don't think it's news.

Agreed...

I received an interesting private message from the "editor" after i criticized the article. I have been coming to this site for years and that has never happened to me until this guy jlgolson "editor" became defensive, sensitive much? NASCAR is this last thing I want to see on an Apple blog site.

Really???

It's called "reporting".

As has been stated many times before, MacRumors does not take paid placements.
Is it really reporting? NASCAR has nothing to do w/ Apple, I am sure anywhere else it may have been a well received article. I see a certain editor that needs thicker skin.

I'll toss my opinion in the ring as well, and just say that this article doesn't belong on the front page. I don't have any issue with the content of it, and it should have been on the iOS page.

You don't need to repeat yourself, but it does look like you missed something: the announcement in the news thread. Comments that are off-topic to the article content itself, that are part of a meta-discussion about the relevance of the article, and that don't break any other rules are being moved to this thread. The only posts that were deleted had other sorts of problems.

We did it that way because it was clear that quite a few members want to discuss why the article was placed where it was. This way, we could let that discussion live and develop, as opposed to simply deleting the posts as off-topic. And all forum feedback should really be here; it makes it easier for the mods, admins, and the site owner to know about and discuss the comments/criticisms/questions that come in about the site.

If the site owner was aware what was going on we would not have to be bitching about it now.:p
