I really detest Argentina - a horrible, if technically gifted team.

It’s incredibly nice fore all those amazing footballers who are winning big prices in this World Cup 🏆
In defence of ALL Football in the world, this WC is about so much more than those winning the big finals.
Even our little country was incredible happy to foremost qualify to the tournament.
Sadly we didn’t go so far, but long before that it was a victory for all football in our country that our guys even qualified.
It will be better for both women, youngsters and kids in all ages, just because of the money that we are receiving from FIFA by just qualifying.
We’ll see new football-stars rinsing from that, when having fun with the ⚽️

Even where I started - how I had fun dribble off my 3 year older brother in the garden 😂
These professional light up the road for all young kids kicking a ball with their buddies, everywhere on the planet 🌏🌍🌎

That's one way of looking at it. But Arsenal (to take a recent example) spent a good chunk of their title-wining season defending and slowing down matches, defending narrow leads...it's a valid and reasonable approach - and against a superior opponent (which Argentina are) a prudent one. England were unlikely to win an aggressive slugging match...they simply don't score that often against top teams.
There were other viable tactical options. Possibly better ones. But I don't think he made a major 'mistake.' And a narrow defeat will carry less blowback than having England run at Argentina and getting their pants pulled down.

I am concerned - worried, in fact - by the fact that William Saliba (who is one of our best, not to mention one of our crucial, one of our essential and key players) sustained what appears to have been a serious injury while playing for France in their World Cup Semi-Final defeat to Spain.

Hard to argue with the opinions of all those superstars themselves.

England don't really have the players to do what Arsenal can.
So it was always gonna be risky setting up a half-assed low block. But i take your point.
If anything Southgate knew how to implement that better (Ofc Tuchel is the better manager overall)

Technically gifted sure. But my pet peeve with them is they never just put the ball down to play football.
Always trying to gain an advantage…even if it means outright cheating.
They’ll probably win the WC again, but i do hope Spain stop them…and i don’t even like Spain either. But need’s must

Puff piece.
Nobody argues he isn’t one of the best to ever do it, I acknowledge he has been exceptional and he habitually pulls off astonishing stuff. I would even argue he is better now than he was four years ago.
But he has played every world cup since 2006, and won one. Pele had won three by age 30. I firmly believe Argentina would not have in 2022 without FIFA’s help, and same thing this time around.
That doesn’t mean they didn’t deserve to win yesterday, they did. But if you add up all the calls that have gone their way over the entire tournament, how few calls they got against, the penalties, disallowed goals etc.
You’d have to be a special kind of fan not to see it.

I get that we have some anti-Messi in here, but when you guys are considering those players from totally different eras of the past, I think you should consider how much more athletic and competitive everybody is in the modern era.

Technically gifted and outrageously talented? Yes, definitely.
However, the Greatest (Footballer) of all Time? No.

When one is technically gifted and outrageously talented and constantly earns the praise of his peers, I fail to see what else you'd like out of them for consideration?
With respect, these discussions about "greatest ever" are unbelievably captured by rose tinted glasses of previous eras.

As long as rivalry is respectful, it’s pretty natural and ok.
But if people start to fight seriously, they need to be calmed down.
If it’s fans it's just stupid, they need to get a life 🟥
If players do it, it’s more understandable, but at least a 🟨 card and sometimes a 🟥 card - up to the referee.

Football is a team game; it is a game where a team's collective performance matters at least as much as individual participation - and, to my mind, Argentina are a perfectly horrible team. Technically gifted, etc, etc, but quite horrid.
Therefore, to my mind, it is not possible to be even considered as one of the greatest players of all time if one is a member of a thoroughly rotten team.
I mentioned Puskas because the Hungarian team of the 1950s were astonishing, and transformational in how they played; moreover, I would add the brilliant Johann Cryuff (Simon Kuper has written some superb material on Cryuff, Ajax, and Barcelona) of the legendary Dutch teams of the 1970s to such a list. And - obviously - Pele, - and the brilliant Brazilian teams of his era, of course.
Each of these great teams graced the game, which is something that Argentina have never done.
