There WILL be plenty of people with throwaway cash who will spend the money on the Edition watch. Gold is still Gold and will retain a certain value long after the watch no longer works.

However, it is silly to consider that anyone would pay $2k on a Stainless Steel watch that will certainly not work for more than 5 years. YES, people pay those prices for classic watches in SS but those are engineered to last for 50 years or more. You buy those for name and quality. Stainless Steel has no real melt down value like gold.

The ONLY way they could justify more than $599 for Stainless is if the big announcement is that the internal guts will be upgradable. If we could send it in next year for an upgrade to processor and battery then YES we may pay a little more.

Steel can be priced a little more than the Sport but if the price is right in the middle then people with a ton of cash will skip it and get the Edition.

Yeah battery is something a lot of people are leaving out. I think if they include a better or even just a new battery in the upgrade cost it might work.

As I've said - you will not find any classic SS watches at anywhere near $1,999. The Rolex sub is $8000, audemars piguet Royal Oak is $14,000, Patel Phillip nautilus $14,000, heck, even the omega speed master moonwatch is $3,800. All are in SS and are considered classics.

At $1,999 the SS Apple watch will be competing with low-end Tag Heuers with Quartz movements. Quartz movements that can be bought for less that $50.

People have repeatedly claimed that Apple are going after the "fashion" market. They're not. As shown by the edition watches they're going after the luxury goods market and in that market the rules are completely different. The gold and SS watches are "Veblem" goods, increasing prices will increase desirability.

Gruber has put up an article with his final pricing prediction and he appears to have realised the steel version with link bracelet will be north of $1,500. I've been saying this all along - if Apple intend to compete with mid-level Swiss watchmakers then the steel edition is going to be much more expensive than the predictions we've been seeing on this thread.

Personally I'm sticking with $1,999

I think we're generally on the same page, but wonder if this is more suggestive of the pricing. Should we take the prices of these watches and add $350 to it (the price of the Sport)?

http://us.burberry.com/the-britain-bby1500-38mm-p38393591 ($995)

http://us.burberry.com/the-britain-bby1703-34mm-p38650251 ($1295)

On the same page, Burberry has an 18kt gold watch for $14,000 (the men's version is $1000 more). Burberry doesn't have any with rubber bands, but they do have a lower-tier watch in the $400-500 range, which is consistent with a $700 base price for the stainless steel.

Yup. "It's all about those bands, bout those bands, not Stainless."

Apple is loving all these inflated price predictions...

...because it feeds right into their past marketing. Remember the inflated price predictions for the iPad? Then when it came in at $499 most people thought, "Wow, this is a great bargain!" Of course it seemed like a bargain when the numbers being bandied about were in the $800-$1200 range.

Apple has to be rubbing it's hands together imagining the initial orders that flood in when the prices announced tomorrow aren't in the multi-thousand dollar range.

A quick google suggests that $1295 Quartz burberry is using the Ronda 703 movement - which can be bought for $12.

Ok, new bold prediction! Apple will shock the world!

Sport: $349/$399

Watch: $499/$549

Edition:$999/$1099

Some total wild speculation to back it all up. The cases are much thinner than people think, allowing for cheaper prices. Also, Apple realizes they can't sell what are essentially identical watches for hundreds or thousands more just because of materials, and that the stainless steel version needs to be priced aggressively because the Sport looks cheap and no one really wants it.

It could be but I don't think it would be fair for Apple to charge even a cent more for different wrists sizes. I mean we're talking milameters here lmfao. But we'll be sure tomorrow :D

I agree with all of that. Except the last sentence. If your prices are wrong, I'm perfectly happy with the black Sport.

Well, the 42mm has a higher res screen and presumably larger (at least slightly) battery. Plus the extra bit of material cost. None of that is free.

And as for looks, profmatt is right. They are subjective. The black sport may indeed look nice. From what I have seen online, my guess is the sport will end up looking rather cheap next to the other two, and with the interface the way it is, may look a bit Fisher-Price like. Only opinion, not currently based in reality, since I have not seen one in person.

$1200.. tops.. for black stainless steel.

My goodness, my prices went up.

This is ridiculous. I realize WATCHES are "up there" in price, but this is technology with a watch interface. Thus, it will be revised and new versions will come out (i.e. slimmer, longer battery, etc.). So can anyone really honestly say they are comfortable with upgrading, assumedly, annually at that price margin?

I wanted the rose gold initially but at the way predictions are going, that ship looks like it has sailed.

Come on Space Black Stainless Steel.

Sport 349,-
Watch 599 with sports band, 799,- with link bracelet or milanese
Edition 8999,- or 10999,- depending on size. Also will come with an "upgrade service"

I dont think apple will charge different prices for different sizes except for the edition. I dont think Apple wants people to buy the wrong size for financial reasons.

Those estimates seem a bit low, it might be more like

Sport - £350
Watch - £500 - £700
Edition - £2,000 - £3,000

How on Earth does $349 = £350? Even with Apple Tax, that would be insane.

Based on the price of $349 iPads, I'd say we're looking at £279 - possibly £299 as the Pound has fallen a bit since the iPads were refreshed.

My mistake I was a little over the top with the sport one - I think £299 for that because of Apple Tax and UK tax. But I do think the Apple SS and edition watch's will be more.

Ah, fair enough.

I think the SS will start at £449 and go up to £749 for the link bracelet. No idea what the Edition will go for, probably £2,500+.

Tomorrow should be interesting.

That would be good, personally I'm willing to go up to £1000 for a SS version but I do hope it's cheaper. And I do want to buy more than 1 band. Tomorrow should be very interesting, I'm hoping us in the UK are going to get the Watch at the same time as the U.S.

Sorry guys I just can't see Apple pricing a piece of technology that will be updated yearly over $1999. I also think people are over estimating how much weight in gold and stainless steel these things have, its just a shell. And as far as I am concerned $1999 is a Rolex in smartwatch terms.

I also conclude that all watches come with the same storage (8GB) and will be sold as is, in their collections based off of Apples website. They will also offer BTO option, probably only for Sports and SS editions.

Will see tomorrow! ;)

Sport looks cheap and no one really wants it.

Not true. I know lots of people who can (and do) afford Rolex, Panerai, etc. and are going for the Sport model simply because they like the matte look. It's all a matter of personal preference. :) These people aren't rich snobs either and couldn't care less if the Sport is the cheapest model.
