I think when the prices are revealed, many people will see the price on the SS and say 'oh right, yeah too much'. It is a premium version watch and Apple always charge more for premium so I think it could be $800 minimum. The gold watch is in the luxury category and so will be over $5000.

That's my prediction.

I don't think so...Sport is low-end at 350-400, SS is midrange at 500-800 and premium is the Gold Limited $1200 +

Not true. I know lots of people who can (and do) afford Rolex, Panerai, etc. and are going for the Sport model simply because they like the matte look. It's all a matter of personal preference. :) These people aren't rich snobs either and couldn't care less if the Sport is the cheapest model.

Kind of dumb that the sport does not have sapphire glas...If anything, the sport version should be made of stronger materials than the regular one.

But I kind of suspect that 2nd generation will be sapphire all the way.

If it was there would be no need to upgrade to the Stainless Steel version, and Apple want's this otherwise there would be no need for it (apart from the straps).

I can't think of a time when the actual prices of an iDevice were lower than price predictions.

I think the prices revealed today are going to be super-high!

A lot of people expected the iPad to be around $1000, when in the end to their surprise it started at $500.

OT: I really hope the base model SS watch will be around $500, though I fear the worst and that I'll just have to settle for a Sport instead.

The iPad was significantly lower than the prices predicted before it launched.

True, but in this case we already know the entry price is $349. So this could open the SS for almost any price. Why offer a different line of watch for only a few $s more? It is easy for Apple to justify a higher SS price by saying if it cost too much for you then buy a Sport. No matter how the SS is priced the barrier to entry is know to be $349.

To upsell you. You'll walk into the Apple Store expecting to spend 349, but walk out having bought a Steel for 500 and then an extra band for say 79.

Do you not think $750 would be a better price if it came with a Stainless Steel Link Bracelet? prices might get a little stupid tho i agree. I've been saying that it wouldn't surprise me to see some of these combinations at around $1000

Not me. I KNOW I'm buying the 42mm Sport ($349-$399). I will only be interested in the SS if it is priced for $400, super highly unlikely.

That price seems right with a link band.

I'm saying though, that they'll start at $499 with a White or Black Sport Band.

The point remains though. The reason to have the SS version only slightly higher in price is to upsell.

The thing is after seeing the Apple Watch and straps on Apple's website, i know that i will be buying more than one band. Apple are very good at this.

I doubt that i will be the only one, the Sport band will be great for the gym, a Link Bracelet would be great for special occasions or maybe everyday wear and the leather loop would also be great for everyday or special occasions. I think Apple know that most people will want to change their bands like most of us do with our phone cases.

Yeah, and if most buy the sport, it's unlikely people will buy extra bands. Why would someone buy four bands in different colours of only the sport band.

However, with the SS, people will be far more willing to purchase a number of different styles of band, so will be more likely to buy extra bands,

I'm buying a Sport w/White and plan on getting at least a blue and a leather straps (may wait on 3ed party depending on pricing).

The more i think about it the more i realise that the fashion aspect can have more of an impact, for example how many pair of jeans, hats and t-shirts do people own, personally i own a number of the same t-shirt's in different colours because one day i might want blue, the next red. I think because the :apple: Watch is something we will wear it will be the same principle.

Today's event (5pm here in the UK) will be very interesting, not just for price and battery life but to also see if there are any other features of the Watch. Personally i think there will be Tim cook (during an interview) said himself "i don't want to show you that, there are still some secretive things on here" here is the link (Tim says it towards the end of the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCW_J799LnY&spfreload=10

Looking at the Apple site, I would guess the SS will be the cheapest version.

http://www.apple.com/uk/watch/design/

Apple lists the SS, Sport and then Gold in that order. If you look at the sport version they say this,

For Apple Watch, we created a new alloy — 7000 Series aluminium — that’s 60 per cent stronger than standard alloys. Yet it’s very light. Together with the Ion-X glass covering the display, it makes the Sport collection watches up to 30 per cent lighter than our stainless steel models. It’s also exceptionally pure, with a beautifully consistent appearance that’s difficult to achieve with traditional aluminium alloys.

I prefer the SS myself, so if that is going to be the cheapest version that's brilliant.

I don't think Apple will announce the price of the Edition today. Or at least not many specifics.

Last minute predictions:

Sport: $349-399

SS: $499 with leather band, $549-600 metal bands

Edition: $1999-2999

I am looking forward to seeing the apps and specs of the watch today. I wonder how much heavier the SS will be compared to the sport. I also wonder how water resistant the watch will be. I am also interested in charging times. I am hoping that it is like the Microsoft band in that it takes 2 hours to fully charge but charges to 75-80% in a half an hour.

The big unknown also is how the app ecosystem is moving along. To me, this is the biggest reason to buy this thing, if it actually has the potential for some interesting functionality.

I am probably 80% leaning towards the Sport, especially for a first generation product, but I love the look of the SS with the Milanese band and I might be tempted if the price is $600 or less. I know people here are saying that the band itself is going to cost several hundred or more dollars, but Skagen makes a mass market watch with a milanese link band for $125. Granted, it isn't the same quality as something from a higher end watch maker, but it looks decent to the average consumer. These bands CAN be made less expensively.

Why the Apple Watch will be reasonably priced.

Hey guys!

After reading through a endless threads about the Apple Watch pricing, especially the Edition model I have come to a conclusion and would like to share that with you. Here are my final pricing predictions which I already posted last night on another thread:

Apple Watch Sport: 349$ (38mm); 379$ (42mm)
Apple Watch: 449$ (38mm); 479$ (42mm)
Apple Watch Edition: 949$ (38mm); 999$ (42mm)

Sports Band: 49$
Leather Band: 99$
Steel Band: 149$

Why? - Well, there are a couple obvious (to me) reasons for this. People like Gruber expect the Edition pricing between 5.000 to up to 20.000$. First off, I DO believe Apple led the media to think of certain prices, so the surprise tonight will be even better. Also: I think the cases of the Apple Watch will be much thinner then a lot of people suspect. This way Apple can stilll retain that (eg.) 18carat Gold line on their watches while spending just a friction. This way prices will be lower.

Now to my most important reason: Apple is not Rolex. People seem to think Apples name is as important in the watch business as some other players, which is simply not the case. Rolex sells watches between 5.000$ to 20.000 or even much higher. Rolex DOES NOT sell a 349$ version of their watch for price sensitive people. Other companies do the same. They are simply selling luxury watches where the higher price gives (certain) people a higher "want-factor". Apple is not in that business. Apple always wants to make products that are accessible for everyone and enrich peoples lives. They just simply don't have the name or image like Rolex to be able to price their Apple Watch Edition in that price range.

So, let's see what happens in about 5 hours, but I stand by my word and you heard it here first! And also: shame on me if I am wrong :D

Thanks!

Good point. I dont know if nailing the pricing range is that important for a new category though. The main goal should be to sell as much apple watches as possible, to get the platform going.

Canibalizing itself is not a tragedy.

We've been over this many, many times. They are not listed in order of price. The sport is going to be the cheapest.
