so for all of us with iphone 7, we now know what dimensions will be the display, exactly the physical dimensions of the iphone 7, and add to that 2mm left side and 2mm right side, so we will have around 71mm wide, and like so for the top and bot, and we will get a physical dimension of 144mmx71 with near 7.5mm thick
[doublepost=1503317312][/doublepost]so no promotion on iphone 8??? what the hell Apple??? its very hard after using for UI of the new ipad pro to come back to a display without promoton

The screen ribbon cable has only one connection to the motherboard, it seems this will not have Promotion ...
The iPad has 2 connections from the screen to the motherboard

I think that picture comparison between the 8 screen and 7 body is a bit misleading. The 8 is flat on the table and the 7 has a full body, the 7 is closer to the camera and therefore they appear to have the same size. The 8 screen by itself is probably a little bit taller (the ruler points to 139mm for the 8 screen, but the ruler doesn't perfectly start at the bottom so make it 139,5mm and the 7 body is 138,3mm). So add 2mm on the top and bottom and you would get 143,5mm. The "leaked" dimension of the CAD file was 143.59mm, so 143mm or 144mm would do :)

i really dont hate those dimensions for a 5.5-5.8" display :)

Oooooh. You mean a 120hz refresh rate. Yes, I think the 8 will have a 120hz screen, which Apple calls ProMotion.

like we thought we will get true tone display with iphone 7?
This iPhone will likely have TrueTone and ProMotion. It will probably be the most advanced display Apple has ever done, not just due to the unique shape, but in every aspect of display metrics

I think we should wait until the announcement. Maybe the 2 cables are for the larger screen? I don't know, but its silly to get upset about it until it's announced.

This will be Samsung's OLED panel and I don't think it'll have ProMotion honestly. I would say not to expect True Tone either. It'll still be an awesome display but I just can't see Samsung giving them an OLED panel that's better than the S8's.

so, why ipad pro has promotion since 50% of them has samsung displays ?

I don't think the iPhone 8 will need two cables for ProMotion as it is a physically smaller screen.

I honestly don't know how Apple wouldn't include it, since this is their flagship device.

But what do I know? Nothing, like everyone else in this thread. :p

September's presser cannot come soon enough because I want to know the price and T-Mobile's trade in deals if they offer one, if not LG G6 or V30 for me.

I'm still sad that TouchID is gone.

If this is true it will be so bad, I don´t wanna update my phone and lost features. TouchID was the last good thing in the iPhone.

I don´t believe that facial recognition-only is a good idea, what´s happens when unlocking the phone at night? And it won't be possible to unlock the phone without looking to it, a big deal while driving...

I have a bad feeling about this iPhone, I was thinking to swap my 6 in this generation but I´m not sure

Same here. I rather they put it at the back than none at all.... Facial for front unlock. Touch ID if the phone is held in your hand, or the screen faces down.

To make matter worse, I'm counting on that Touch ID in the screen is gonna come back for iPhone 8S..... So iPhone 8 or not... argh

It's really simple:

1) Apple will only replace Touch ID if the new technology (Face ID) is at least as fast, reliable, secure and convenient.

2) If Apple replaces Touch ID, it will never return.

Interesting, i think the bezels are going to be very small, so far rumours are that a 5.8" screen will be put into a body around the same size as the 4.7" iPhone but not all 5.8" of the screen will be usable as i think some of it is rumoured to be reserved for the "function area" at the bottom. I guess we will see more of these as we get closer to the announcement.

I believe I'm correct in thinking that the invites should go out either Wednesday this week (23rd) if they send them out 2 weeks in advance (and hold the event on the 6th of September) but i if i remember right last year they sent them out a week in advance?

It will "return".
Its not really going...TouchID is still present on the 7S.

TouchID will be back in full force next year alongside facial scanning, when they finally get good yields of in-display fingerprint scanner which both they and Samsung didnt manage to do this year.

I really don't think so. Has Apple ever re-introduced a technology that was phased out?

The 7S obviously still has it, because it is an S model. Next year, there won't be any models with physical home button anymore and TouchID will be a legacy technology.

Also, I believe you and many others have it exactly backwards. I think FaceID was always Plan A for the bezel-free OLED model and the under-display fingerprint scanner was only examined in case FaceID, being very new tech, wouldn't make the cut for 2017.

Completely agree with both of your comments there.

touch id on back really a big mess , i can imagine who want it :)

It won't be on the back those images are from clones. The iPhone 7s will have Touch ID on the front and the 8 or whatever they call it will have no home button, it will instead use the Face ID that Apple have been developing for years.

Good news , hoping all goes well with production So we don't face shortage on launch.
"About 20 workshops start assembling iPhone 8, production is growing."
