I think for those who purchased iPhone X, could accept the Notch for what it is and try to hide it with a wallpaper.

It's not an OS hack or anything it's just a wallpaper, i.e., an image with the top designed to look like a curved upper display area.

And Apple puts it in the Design guideline to NOT mask the notch.

It’s going to be the signature symbol for iPhones. Get used to it.

The screen matching the radius corners of the phone in the background looks so much better than those random corners in that wallpaper app on the phone in front.

My solution to the notch...

Stop worrying about it. It melts away and becomes part of the design.

Also, don’t pay for a “notch remover”. Just set your background image to be a nice space or night scene or a portrait mode photo with studio lighting (ie black background at the top) and, voila! The notch will disappear!

I've been catching up on some development guidelines for the X - getting ready for a complete redesign on an app for a customer, pretty big deal - but anyway, Apple uses some very strong, very specific language about the notch.

Or you could just use the Black wallpaper provided by Apple as it will also help save battery on your oled screen.

I'm a bit appalled that Apple specifically states in their design guidelines that apps should not try to make the notch area less apparent. It's just so ass backwards when the same things will be shown in there at all times so why not just make that area a black background with the actual screen area right underneath? Saves a minuscule amount of battery on an OLED too.

No it doesn’t.

The screen corners matching the same radius as the body of the phone looks amazing.

The dock accentuates the curves of the screen and body at the bottom.

Movie screens, TVs , computer monitors, magazines, books, news papers , all notchless and have straight corners.

It’s not just the notch that looks strange to me, the curved corners as well.

Making the corners straight would have significantly increased the size of the bezels with the iPhone's current footprint.

Daily life has lots of notches. Think of it like the person in front of you at the movie theatre.

After a few minutes, barely noticeable.
