Also as a side note, at least one of Apple’s own apps, Reminders, hides the notch.

That's a good point. I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it. I wonder if there is some disagreement about the notch within Apple... Maybe the team that worked on the Reminders app doesn't agree with the notch?

When you all keep saying you like the notch because you want people to know it's an iPhone, you are reinforcing the stereotype about iPhone owners and treat it like a status symbol. You can't say you couldn't care less what other people think because, obviously, you do.

Why is it wrong to have an icon that's different from all the other almost-but-not-quite-bezel-less Android devices out there?

We all have to admit that was marketing genius...on Samsung's part (pun intended).

Not quite. All Samsung did was copy one of many memes already done months ago when the design was leaked. Photos of Jony Ive with a notch hairline were created long before Samsung created the commercial with the guy with a notch hairline.

Samesung strikes again.

Steve Jobs would never have accepted the notch. Like the majority of us he would have seen it as unnecessary.

Steve told google to change the shade of yellow they used in their logo. Someone probably would’ve been fired if they presented the notch as a possible design for their anniversary iPhone.

Maybe the notch is a reference to Steve’s hairline?

Doesn't matter who came up with it first, Samsung ran with it and made me feel slightly "fanboy" for buying an X on launch day. I love my X, don't get me wrong, but Samsung found my achiles heel.

You said it was marketing genius. It’s not genius if all they did was use a meme.
