As a slight aside, do the prices you're quoting here in the US include taxes? If not, how much does that add? Here in the UK, Petrol (Gas) is still around £1.10 per litre but that includes all taxes.
It really bugs me that companies ramp up prices immediately the cost of crude goes up but don't drop them as it falls

prices in US have tax included

comeon guys, ever heard of rockets and feathers

We complain about $3 gas because more often than not we're driving 2 hours round-trip to work everyday. It's a bigger country (as you pointed out).

Wty do people keep on pointing out how big USA is? The size of the country is irrelevant. What is relevant is population-density. And in that metric, USA isn't that special (it's more densely populated than Finland is for example).

Yes, USA is a big country. And huge parts of it are wilderness and wasteland with very very few people living there.

Actually I wouldn't mind paying $8 per gallon as long as US would have such a highly developed public transportation system as Western Europe or Japan. And besides, most of that $8 per gallon price is EU taxes but at least you get something out of it.
bigandy falls over laughing at the insinuation that the UK has "highly developed public transportation systems"

Well said things...
Absolutely. Also, people don't seem to realise that despite the size of the UK, some people do have to commute. A lot. I've had several jobs where my commute has been geographically limited to car, and has taken over an hour and a half each way. And that's not exactly been in remote areas.

See above. ;)

It wasn't even an abnormal commute.

I read where the price of oil has gone up. Dang the luck. Which means gas will go up again. I am so sick of this.

VIENNA, Austria - A pledge by European countries to keep the banking sector afloat injected optimism into oil markets Monday, with prices rebounding from a 13-month low to rise well above $80 a barrel. Gasoline and heating oil also recorded substantial gains.

In my country is $0.12 a litter.

To fill up the tank with premium is around $4.30, but that is what the web sites says, is actually cheaper because my car has a 40 litters tank and I pay Bs. 4.30 actually. Based on the current exchange rate that have been stable for about 5 years I would be actually paying $0.02 per litter.

Oooo... I got it, the rates represents gallons, no litters.

For the first time today, I saw a station selling gas at $2.97 a gallon here in Denver Colorado. Lets hope the price keeps on dropping at least another dollar.

I haven't seen it that low, down here in the Springs, it is $3.15 which is down 13 cents since last Friday.

Deflation. It's a normal when the market tanks.
Enjoy it while it lasts... if we hit a spiral all the money in the world won't buy a loaf of bread.
This reaction, "gas is only 3 bucks!" is the short-sightedness we Americans are always so guilty of.
Hang on to your hats.

You are right... and wrong. The market has had a self correction and the dollar is not necessarily deflating as it is gaining in value against other currencies. Of course you are right about short-sightedness. As congress fixes a system that would inevitably fix itself, they will cause this current rise in purchasing power of the dollar to drop and once again we will pay through the nose for everything. How long this takes to reverse is up to the market.

I paid $3.53 for 87 over the weekend. So its still a little high in my area though I have started seeing it at around $3.30ish.

Though with living in San Diego you could get cheaper gas in Tijuana if you want to deal with the border crossing and the wave of drug violence down there recently.

87 Octane? That's vastly lower than the regular fuel we get here and the "premium" fuels are close to 100 Octane. Interesting.

colorado has 85 octane as lowest

89 octane is our premium

now if you go down south, ive seen 93 octane as highest octane

the reason for octane differences is soley based on engine parameters. you do not want premature knocking. so depending on the compression ratios of engine, as well as elevation, is why we have octane differences

We have 87 (reg), 89 (plus), and 91 (prem) in California. I don't know much about octane, but seeing that 91 octane is usually 20-30¢ higher than 87, 95-100 octane gas must be a lot more expensive. No wonder gas petrol costs so much there.

Had to fill up on the way back from my sister's place (Newark, CA):

Regular (87) - $3.53
Mid (89) - $3.63
Premium (91) - $3.74

According to my gas hog app: 23.21 gallons X $3.74 = $86.80

Bleh.

do not forget you all used a different formal for calc. Octane rating. End result is it gives you a higher number.

It makes me so frustrated to hear Americans complaining about $3 petrol when there are places in the world paying more than double for their fuel. Yes, I know that most of our price is tax but currently no political parties in the United Kingdom stand for an outright reduction in fuel taxes and duties.

It's amazing to see here the discussions on the surface items (i.e. "gas is cheap!") and not the underlying issues isn't it? Is that as deep as Ami's can think? I believe so. We seem to be programmed that way.
Deflation precedes horror.
We will pay the piper sooner or later.

Just filled up and gas was $3.43/gal for regular.

I always fill up at half tank, but it was still 38 bucks. Blech.

Yes, I'm complaining about gas being $3.43 per gallon. Those of you that don't like it, too bad! I can whine if I feel like it! :p

I got a bargain tonight at bp. 104.9p per litre or $6.93/gal to you Americans.
