good luck! hopefully it works for you ;)

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

the

Code:
/Users/Jordan/Downloads/FAH6.29-OSX-Intel-Console/fah6 -smp4 -verbosity 9 -local

didnt work. so i just tried

Code:
/Users/Jordan/Downloads/FAH6.29-OSX-Intel-Console/fah6 -smp 4 -advmethods

and it seems to be going fine. its even continued from where i was at :)

400% CPU now. i am happy ;) still sitting at roughly 65°C but the fan speeds have halved!!

thanks so much man.

oh yeah, i forgot -advmethods. you could have just added that to the top one. but either way, glad it's working. if you add -verbosity 9 (i think i'm spelling that right) it will tell you everything that it's doing right in terminal

oohh i was wondering what that does!!

what is interesting to note: changed back to 4 cores, getting "13.9x realtime" or whatever the widget tells you, and with 8threads going i was getting 16.4x.. that really shows that there is little to no performance increase given from having HT enabled. i am glad that i turned back down to 4-cores.

well when i was referring to having HT enabled, i meant for bigadv units. i'm not sure about the a3 units, but i would assume having HT enabled would be better if the machine was just for folding

if you are running only 1 instance of F@H on the CPU at a time - HT will not really benefit you, as running he 1 process >50% overall CPU with HT enabled will disavantage you (lots of overhead involved). if you have say, 3 instances of F@H running - then you will be benefited overall (only just).

but fah is not 1 process. when you run -smp 8, that's 8 processes. check task manager or activity monitor and you'll see

Bidadv still runs on a2 core, so you will see multiple processes. A3 is only one process, but multi-threaded.

thanks for that sci, I presume bigdav is multithreaded also :p

Running one of these processes would of course give a 1:1 ratio, if you ran 2 lots of these bigdav units it would not half the speed, the decrease would be even greater - maybe only running at 30% original speed.

Also, the performance increase from running at say 400% compared to 800% is minimal for one process.

i think you misunderstood. the bigadv units use the a2 core, which will give multiple processes. the newer, a3 core it multi threaded.

true! i bet they arent complaining though. :D

my computer had to wait 24 hours yesterday. something to do with an EUE or something liek that.. then it downloaded about 5 other units that failed at about 5% each! odd..

hmm. that is odd.

congrats to designed for 2 million points!

2,881 now lol! this is going to take a while!

yeah it might take awhile. it took what seemed forever to get my first million. i never thought i'd get it either, and now i've got over 8 million! just stick with it. eventually you'll get a new computer, and the points will continue to go up!

and congrats to whiterabbit for 16 million points!

Thanks. and dangit I just lost a bigadv unit that had finished, grrrrrr. I thought it was hung up so I shut the client down and couldn't recover the unit :(
