Congrats to twoodcc for 10 million points

Amazing contribution.

8 million on 9 MAY, now 9 million on 26 MAY. that's about 17 days! not bad considering all the issues i've had. this still should be my best month ever if i post 2 bigadv units before the end of the month

so i hit 10 million around 21 JUN (about 26 days), and now 11 million today - 5 AUG - about 45 days. man that seemed like it took forever. and i'm still not back up to where i want to be. i need a new mac pro!

Lets see, $5000 for a mac pro 12 core vs. about $1000 for a mobo 3 gtx 460 pwr supply and cheap cpu plus Windows 7 will get you as many points I bet. Electric bill might be higher though with the gpu's. If you still wanted to spend $5000 you could get 20 gtx 460's @ $220 each X 10,000 ppd each = 200,000 ppd!

yeah, but it's more complicated than that. for each GPU, you gotta have something plugged up to it to fold (either a monitor, tv, or a 'dummy plug'). and if you don't have dummy plugs, then that adds a lot more power usage to the figure.

but i agree, a 12 core mac pro is very expensive. $5,000 is a lot of money.

3 x gtx 460 won't get you 60k ppd. closer to 30k.

plus, i need to decrease the number of systems i have, not increase them. a 12 core mac pro for $5,000 would give me more ppd than i'm getting from all my systems right now combined.

Hmm, maybe you are right, it would be a lot of work to get them up and keep them going. and then there is the electric bill...

yeah i got my first electric bill for my new place - $285! and i'm not folding full throttle!

Wow, that does seem really high, I have 4 machines going with 6 gpu's and my latest bill is $189. And that is with the air on the whole month. Winter is more expensive! It is possible that is an estimate and they over did it a bit...

well we think we may have an air conditioning problem. it takes hours for it to cool the house down 5 degrees! we hope to have it checked out very soon

yeah it's summer here. very hot. it's been at least 95 F, and sometime over 100 F
oh man i would kill for those temperatures... *drool*

its winter here, so <10*c nights, and max of 20c(about 65F maybe?) in the day. i hate the cold.

anyway back OT, can Linux + F@H utilise the GPU of a 8500GT?

Working on my 5 digits

Just got into this folding and I'm already creeping up on 5 digits lol. I think in another day I will be there. Any recommendations?

Did you ever get your AC fixed? It's been 90*+ here the last few weeks with high humidity :(

ahh ok, ill give it a look. i plan on turning my useless PC into a server, may as well use it for folding :D

yeah try searching for "linux cuda gpu folding" or something like that

good for you. and glad to have you! what systems do you have? and do you have a PS3?

still haven't gotten the air fixed. hopefully they come by to look at it tomorrow.

That's what I've been using the G5 for. That and my Mini both run 24/7.

nice. is the mini intel or ppc?
