Congrats to designed for reaching 1 million.
Thanks! It didn't take that long after all. I guess folding with a MP is a bit different from folding with a PS3 and a Core Duo :D

thanks for the links! yes, designed is kicking some butt! i wonder what his times per frame are

I'm assuming that frame times refer to the steps FahCore reports? If that's the case, they seem to be around the 33 minute mark to do the 1% of the bigadv-package.

yes, congrats to designed for 1 million points!

and congrats to you, whiterabbit for 11 million points!

but why is it not showing you hit 11 million points for the team?

yes, each frame is 1% of a WU. 33:00 is pretty good. keep it up!

33 mins per frame with the iMac i7? That seems awfully fast. 25k PPD. That looks like the time of a 3Ghz 8 core previous generation Mac Pro.

Actually I'm using a Mac Pro with a 8-core 2,26GHz setup.

I'm right at 28 minutes with a MacPro 2.66 octo but I'm not currently running bigadv units because I keep having to shut down to swap hard drives, bigadv units don't restart once you have stopped them. One of these days I'll get some time to consolidate all of my files... then I won't have to shut down so frequently:p

Haha. I wanted the 2.66 octo but couldn't justify the price jump (and still somehow managed to justify the quad-to-octo jump, but that's another story). Of course my times tend to deviate, during the days it's just under 33 minutes but now and then a bit of Aperture work comes in and needs CPU attention.

I haven't noticed that bigadv units do not restart. Mine seem to restart just fine the few times I've shut FahCore down, continuing from the same frame. Does it affect the points awarded or so? Good thing I can usually bunch in the updates, last time it was a few software updates and a third HDD

Hopefully the bigadv will switch very soon to SMP2, they have much better restart rates. I also loose the unit almost everytime if I stop it or reboot...

I wanted the top octo but couldn't justify it :D I had never had anything but the lowest Powermacs (G3 & G5) or, cough, Performa, so I splurged.

The bigadv units NEVER restart on my machine  it only affects the points to the extent that I'm restarting from zero and not where I was at oh say 90 percent or something. I will work on consolidation as soon as I have my Victory Vegas with new paint back together :p:p it's an 04 with silver goldish paint and a 1500 cc engine

Wherfor art thou mc68k

I just realized that mc68k hasn't had any points since the 14th of March, hope he hasn't gotten in trouble for folding on company machines...

and WAY off topic

I have it all back together now and hope to ride it tomorrow, weather permitting. The paint chip didn't look like this, but I love it! The original silver frame and pipes contrast nicely.

nice!

I decided I don't need to right now so it's back to bigadv units now.

Your PPD has improved a lot

Still no new Mac Pro announced...

On another note, I updated four computer to 10.6.3 that were running a3 and all of them resumed and finished. Can't wait for a3 bigadv.

Also rumors are all over the place for PPD on the new Nvidia GTX 480. Soem say 13k PPD, some say 29k...

yeah, still no new Mac Pro, not happening this week. and i don't see why next week will be any different. apple is all about the iPad right now i think.

nice. glad 10.6.3 is working for you. i haven't updated any machines yet.

i'll wait awhile before even thinking about getting a GTX 480. i'll wait and see how it does for others first

I know, bigadv sure make a difference! :D

I think Apple won't announce a new Mac Pro until the developer's conference in June :( but hopefully that means new goodies like usb 3 and sata 3 as well as an inside redesign for 2.5 inch ssd's :) imagine 4 ssd slots as well as 4 3.5 inch drive slots!! woo hoo, just a dream though.

I will wait until I can catch my Mac right after a new wu starts for 10.6.3, just in case...

The GTX 480 is very tempting especially at the same price point as the GTX295. I have one open PCIe slot... but I will wait until I hear more about it. I'm also waiting for Linux gpu3, but that could be a very long time :(

yeah bigadv is great, as long as you have no errors, and a fast machine!

yeah, you are probably right about the mac pro release date. it's too bad though. there are so many people wanting an updated mac pro, and will probably buy a pc instead. and i don't blame them really. it might be a good while before i buy another mac pro. it's hard to justify the price.

you can always run the -oneunit flag and then after it finishes, update.

i don't know, the GTX 480 even at $500 is pretty high. i think i'll wait on that. do you have a double wide slot?

Speaking of errors I updated to 10.6.3 this afternoon and started having kernel panics:( I sent them both in to Apple so maybe we will have a fix soon. I did make some other changes and then removed them to see if that was it but then it was time to go to work... I'll see when I get home. I want to get Ganglia, or something else, up and running to have a way to check on things from work, but...

The MacPro is getting quite expensive but I plan to sell my current one to offset the price, so hopefully I won't pay more than $500-1000 for the upgrade.

I'll wait on the GTX480 too, it's tempting but I want to be able to use Linux and not pay for another copy of Windows, and yes I do have one double wide slot open though I could replace one of the GT260's with it and put the 260 in the "spare" slot.

sorry to hear about the errors. i hope everything gets worked out. you're putting out the points again! love to see that!

yeah, that's not a bad idea to sell your current mac pro to help pay for the newer one. i hope you get the 12 core if they release one (and they better)
