I have it working on my 3GS...what you need to know?

Steps
- update carrier file, input needed data and reboot iphone. (3GS settings are diff from 3G).
- Put sim in another att phone, make a few calls, send texts
- go to mediaNet site, send text to phone
- go to att site make sure no iphone shows as the phone you have
- I then had a friend send me a pic to my # while sim was in another phone. Boom, I get that image.
- Remove sim from old phone and place back into already turned on iphone.
- Try to send....works! Have someone send to you....Works. May take a while to receive at first, but it comes. Today my wife and I were sending pics like crazy. She was at zoo and sending me lots of pics.

Yes, we've all seen the pics of your wife that she was sending you like crazy. Luckily, I reminded you that she might not appreciate being so "visible" in the forums, huh? :D

Everyone, I read those instructions, and the lazyass inside me kicked in. That looked like wayyyyy to much to go through for a feature that we will all get in less than a month. And even then, you probably all have jailbroken phones? Or at least some of us do, and you can get a cracked version of swirlymms which let's you do EVERYTHING mms will allow including save audio files that you have recieved as ringtones, pretty spiffy. And it's free, if you get the cracked version. Otherwise you have to pay. If anyone has questions or just wants to comment on what I said, negative or positive, feel free to email me.

Ok so strike my last post, it works but there's an easier way that I just found...at almost 4 in the morning :) this one is for those of you who have jailbroken phones: all you have to do is go to cydia, add the xsellize source (in order to add it you have to have a usename and password for xsellize but there are a hunch of them on google that you can use) and install "supreme preferences 3.0" and once it is installed, go to your settings and you will see the supreme pref's, go to them, go to applications>phone>allow cellular data editing. Then go back to phone>cellular data network> go down to mms and enter the information from the original post in all the fields. Once that's done go tothe applications tab in the supreme pref's>messages> make sure the mms messaging is turned on and reboot your phone. After that, viola! You have the mms feature. I tested it and it's foolproof, best part is it only took five minutes.

message failure when sending

Hi,

thank you very much for your post. I followed your instructions on my 3GS, install went very well, and i set all of my network settings through Supreme settings 3.0 like you described on page 1 of your post, however i keep getting an error when trying to send an MMS.

Am i missing a step?

Thanks,

Kevin

Well Kevin, theres a number of things that couldve gone wrong but the main ones, that i can think of anyways, would be:
1. when you entered the username and password, they have to be in capital letters.
2. at&t requires a multimedia/data plan for iphones which creates a loophole when picture messaging, you dont have to pay for it. but since yours is jailbroken maybe you dont have the data plan? or maybe at&t has wap push disabled on your plan. i would try calling them, have it enabled and have mms pay per use enable and it should help.

hope this helps you.

Thanks Nick,

I verified all of the settings, and i do have a data plan along with unlimited SMS and internet. Most likely it is AT&T having WAP disabled. I had tried previously with my business rep to have WAP enabled, but didn't get anywhere. I will try that again.

Thanks!

Dude....i posted settings needed for the 3GS. Also, you dont need to enter a username and password to work. Leave fields blank.

I have been reading that if you don't have the unlimited text, that each MMS takes up something like 4 texts for each MMS text. Is this not true? Asking. So I was wondering if AT&T has seen what is happening on the network per with in increase is messages with pictures etc.. that is all.

My MMS stopped working today on my 3GS. My wife still going on 3G. I am going to switch sim later today again.

Just got this trick working on my 3GS.... also running 3.1 beta2 OS. I have to admit I had my doubts but all be damned it works great. Doing the same thing to the wife's iphone now. Thanks for great tips!

Wow, all of this so your phone will do what others have been doing for years. Awesome.

I finally got it to work after nights of no sleep and dreams about it. I was previously successful on the 3g with a post from this forum but failed on the 3gs time after time after following many different threads. I mixed and matched ideas, threads, sim cards and finally got it to work flawlessly and been working for the last 24 hours. I can send Pictures and Video. I had given up on MMS on the 3GS but had a dream about mms so I kept trying lol.

mms.jpg

Here is what you do.

1. Update the carrier file on your iphone then reboot your iphone. Once iphone reboot update carrier file again and remove sim.

2. Setting-General-Network-Cellular Data AND ENTER ON ALL FIELDS *****except first line in voicemail enter "acds.voicemail"****
APN: wap.cingular
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (CAPS
Password: CINGULAR1 (CAPS)
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]
HIT the home button then leave iphone alone DO NOT REBOOT!!!!

3. insert sim into an mms capable att phone. Make a 1 minute phone call (No need to log into ATT or call ATT).

4. Go to https://mymedianet.wireless.att.com/ (on your computer) and register for media net while sim is in mms capable phone if it give you an error saying that phone is not capable of media make another phone call until it lets you register it. It will tell you that a text was sent to that phone with a 4 digit pin and it will ask you for the pin. You will receive a text with the pin enter the pin on your computer then hit continue. It will ask you for an email if its the first time you register if it does enter your email then hit continue. After that send a picture (mms) from the non iphone.

5. Log into ATT and under your number if you still see an iphone manually switch it to the mms capable phone. Go to features and change it to a regular text plan not an iphone text plan. (If you currently have family iphone text you will have to change it to the 1500 text plan then change it to unlimited family text (not iphone text plan)
***Your account must say under features "Messaging Unlimited for Families - Shared" (NOT Iphone Text)

6.Remove SIM from non iphone and insert it into the iphone. DO NOT REBOOT IPHONE and also DO NOT GO INTO CELLULAR DATA SETTING. You will now have MMS on your iphone and it wont stop working unless you mess with setting or reboot phone.

I have tried it many times and never fails. Please Sticky......

BTW I got it working flawlessly to where I put it on my girls phone as well as my dads and friends.

I couldnt agree with u more man, but iphone users have been waiting almost TOO long for this feature to come out, and we are a little excited about getting it before everyone else does :D
