Congrats!
people read success stories and throw them out the window they just focus on people who failed to get it accomplished.

And some people read failure stories and throw them out the window. They just focus on people who successfully got it accomplished. :)

From trying this myself, and reading other people's responses, it seems clear to me this procedure simply is not guaranteed to work for everybody. It's irrational for you to keep insisting that it must work for everyone just because it's working for you. But.. But.. you say, I've tried it on several iPhones. Well, maybe it has something to do with the area you're in. Who knows..

True. It didn't work for me for more than a few hours. I followed every step to a T, but it simply didn't last. I won't keep trying though because MMS isn't something I use more than once a month, even when I did have it on other phones.

3.1 OS Beta

Not sure if this was answered/covered previously in the thread but I only read back a few pages from the newest post. I had MMS/tethering/VVM up and running when I had the 3.0 OS on my 3GS. It was working without any issues for a few days. I then received the e-mail from apple iphone dev that the 3.1 beta OS was released so I went out and restored to 3.1 beta and a couple things changed.

1. The ATT default carrier file is ATT 4.2.
2. Said carrier file includes the tethering as well as MMS (hint hint)
3. There is not longer an option to edit the network data account information
4. I then realized that VVM was broken.
5. I tried updating to the 5.0 carrier file so that I could edit said data account settings.
6. After upgrading to carrier file 5.0 - the actual option appeared under Setting-->General-->Network but when you go into it the only thing you can edit are the account settings for Data and MMS.

So at this point I have yet to play around with a few things but I will post up once I have success with 3.1 and get everything back up and running (MMS/Tethering/VVM)

(sidenote: I did try all the basic functions to reset VVM. ie reset from ATT and start from scratch, change PIN etc with no avail.)

Video Quality

Now I do see why AT&T isn't ready for launch.

Because when I send a video to myself the quality is horrible.

Its like when I recorded it, its a 10/10

But when I receive it, its a 3/10

Pictures and video are compressed. You won't get high quality. But it's like that no matter if it's iPhone or any other phone.

Well, i Had it working, was sending and receiving both pictures and videos...but then it stopped working :(
why must they take it away from me!? *cry*

Same here. I just went to the AT&T store. They let me put my SIM in another phone... i went through the whole call/sms/mms/medianet deal. Popped my SIM back in and Voila. MMS worked. No more than 10 minutes later it stopped working. What gives?

Anyone know how to revert back? Now, I have MMS that doesn't work and visual voicemail as well. Dialing one gives me the Error performing request: Unknown Error although dialing my own number lets me access my voicemail.

MMS, although would be neat, I can wait for. I cannot deal with a broken VVM

edit: i reset my voicemail password and I am able to set it up but it's stuck on the last screen saying "saving password" and then not being able to connect to voicemail.

You need the .ipcc file for the AT&T 4.0 carrier file.

here you go.

make sure you remove the .txt extension and ONLY have a .ipcc extension.

And you need this terminal command to allow iTunes 8.2 to see the .ipcc file, just close iTunes, open terminal, paste the command, and reopen.

defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Just click on the first post by kenbrinkman to go to his original thread so you can download the 4.0 carrier file. Oh, and don't blame me if you can't get it to work. ;)

Because we- "didn't mess up a step"? :p

I didn't miss a step but it seems like if you lose connectivity or turn on airplane mode, when the phone syncs back to the network, it drops MMS. At least that's what is happening to me.

Well, you must have messed up a step, because this method has worked flawlessly for those who didn't mess up a step. Because of the OP's help in coming out with this method that he painstakingly developed for us, I really don't think it matters if AT&T ever officially comes out with MMS and tethering. Thanks a million OP!

It has been about 9 days since I tried this method, and I am stoked to report that my MMS STILL works! (knocks on wood) I am on 3.0. Also, my tethering works via USB and my speed test is attached. I have never been able to get neither to work all through the 3.0 betas but I tried this method and it all works. Great work OP!!

EDIT: Oh yeah, this was posted from the AT&T network on my laptop.

EDIT: meh, i give up. i tried, it will come eventually.

finally got mms to work

I just patched up an ipcc using various settings. After many trial and error updating/rebooting iphone 3gs, i finally can send/receive mms successfully. Didnt even have to call att or do some silly sim swap either.

Would you be able to share your settings on how you got MMS to work on your 3GS ? That would be aweomse :D

You'll be waiting a long time, because this guy has been making multiple posts about he has it working, but never seems to post his file. I'd hazard to guess that either he doesn't have anything working or he had it working and now it doesn't anymore.

I have it working on my 3GS...what you need to know?

Steps
- update carrier file, input needed data and reboot iphone. (3GS settings are diff from 3G).
- Put sim in another att phone, make a few calls, send texts
- go to mediaNet site, send text to phone
- go to att site make sure no iphone shows as the phone you have
- I then had a friend send me a pic to my # while sim was in another phone. Boom, I get that image.
- Remove sim from old phone and place back into already turned on iphone.
- Try to send....works! Have someone send to you....Works. May take a while to receive at first, but it comes. Today my wife and I were sending pics like crazy. She was at zoo and sending me lots of pics.

The top pic is what I have in my 3GS and the bottom is what I have in my wife's 3G............WORKS!
