This thing is gonna BLOW every competitor out of the water, it will be amazing...with the tablet, Apple will be able to reclaim the final frontier in the world of personal computing/media.

- music players: Apple;
- smartphones: Apple;
- tablets/slates/ebook readers: Apple;
- PCs: Apple (with Macs finally dominating the PC world, as it already happens in the high-end segment).

And people still think I am kidding when I say MS is DEAD. It's not only DEAD, it's BURIED deep in the ground. Apple will be able to buy MS in less than 5 years with its gigantic market cap.

You're not kidding, you're just deluded, there is absolutely no reason for them to want to buy MS. There are still people who want to use Windows as their OS, and those of us who don't want to pay more for less hardware(enthusiasts)

someone has way to much time on their hands to unearth this. who cares? we haven't learnt anything new.

i just want new MBP's enough about this tablet.

too much time on their hands for a hobby? what would you prefer they do? vigilantes in the rice fields or clearing mine fields in dangerous parts of the world?
i guess unearthing this was a thrill for the one who unearthed it. little sleuth. and it seems many visitors here are enjoying devising scenarios for what it might mean.
it is silly and pointless, but so it watching baseball, collecting stamps and spotting trains.

on an aside: the current MBP (summer 2009) is truly the best one i've ever used, (all the way back to the lombard). practically no complaints whatsoever. excellent machine. but i understand you want something a little faster :)
good luck,
best

Apple has a way of building us into a frenzy without actually being on record as the ones doing it. With all the vague rumor leaks this month and now this carefully orchestrated move that takes down Fingerworks' web site, they sure know how to stay in our minds and at the top of the tech blogs before a new product launch.

Coming soon: Media event announcement, iLife tablet rumors with more detail,
a potential screenshot leak of the new os, and a SJ retirement rumor.

Whatever happens, they got my attention. I feel like Cartmen waiting for the Wii. C'mon, c'mon already!!!!!

Each day the number of leaks, comments and rumours continue to rise - not sure I can wait until the end of the month dammit. ;)

As long as microsoft have its cash cow ( Office etc ).. its not going anywhere.

In order for microsoft to 'die', its corporate ties have to be slashed. There is no company even close to breaking the microsoft <-> corporate link. Yes, not even Apple, who don't appear to be trying at all very hard in the corporate world, at least, if they are trying, they aren't doing a very good job.

microsoft will be around, and living well in 10 years time!

BTW - that must be some very strong hash you've got going :D

you make a fair point an i agree with you in part. unearthing such a piece of info must take some time and a fair bit of expertise. I just don't think pulling a website that has been active for years just before a new product launch would make ANY difference - and therefore don't think this should be front page news. in short i doubt the relevance of the news.

it's not like there haven't been enough tablet stories going around anyway :)

i nearly bought one of those MBP's... but decided to wait for arrandale (or whatever it is now called). I guess that agitation (sitting with a first gen coreduo MBP here!!) has finally got to me!

peace

I predict that the actual tablet that is unveiled will not be as advanced or have nearly as many features as have been rumored. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth around MR and the blogs, but like the iPhone, what it does to it will do amazingly well and it will have a "thing" or two that make it unique and that will be used as the selling points (ie, the iPhone had multitouch). Some people will hate it because it doesn't do this or that thing, and a lot of people will poo-poo it until they actually use one, and then when they do they will find it to be quite amazing..

To make the learning curve easier, it'll allow you to type only the letters A through E (and P's and L's) when it first reaches market. The rest of the alphabet will be introduced gradually until a software update is released a year later to boost sales of the gen 2 model, which will hype that new "feature".
:eek:

_ELP, PLEA_E! <-- new tablet used in the wild!

Ya know it just occurred to me a lot of companies are registered in Delaware because of tax's etc. All this stuff is adding up to a new division for Apple,Inc.

That's a false statement, not that I'm saying they would. There are always reasons.

i agree with you, there could always be reasons and we never know which twists of fate the future may bring, however the OP made it sound as if apple's main goal, focus and raison d'etre was "buying MS", which is a little farfetched, considering the markets they cater to amongst other factors.

My guess

Did they actually sell any of these?

I think, Fingerworks sold more stuff than Art Lebedev sold Optimus Maximus keyboars.

And actually since reading some years ago about Fingerworks, I was so willing to test one of their fine pieces of hardware. Unfortunately Apple bought them out.

I just so hope, that they actually use some of the aquired tech sometime. Gee, if they only sold a 'Gesture Pad'-like add-on for iMacs and Mac Pros, I think they'd surely have a winner (instead of that kind of intentionally crippled Magic Mouse).

Apple Different

I think this is the big difference between Apple and say Microsnooze

Apple generally wont just grab something new and throw it on the market, they will sit on something for years until they (or should I say Steve) is happy that is is good enough to market.

On the other hand others will just grab something new , hash something together and throw it on the market

I like Apple's product but really? And really? :D

i wonder why you think apple would want to buy MS?

that's like cartier diamonds buying woolworths.... why?????

or an excellent sushi restaurant 'finally' buying a burger joint. pointless.

Amen. And let me add to that, "Ferrari buying Toyota". :D

Apple is all about zero learning curve

Apple would never put people through puzzle-like interfaces such as Grafitti, my bet is with what Google is working on right now. They could have stole the idea from Apple board mettings. It's called voice recognition, and it has no learning curve at all.

We've seen this tried so many times before.

I remember watching a really old demo of voice req on an apple Quadra years ago and it was an embarrassment when the thing didn't work well, and the operator couldn't even get it the "stop listening" command to work.

Also, consider using the tablet in a meeting where there are other tablets...everyone's talking to them instead of typing?

I just don't see it.
I reserve the right to be surprised and proven wrong though :)

correction; you were right

I believe you might be wrong about that. Vista was a real drain on them. Windows 7 has real uptake and will give them a new leg to stand on going forward. Their dominance in "Office" and their tactics on file format and release tactics are both effective to force upgrades and not under attack by any court.

Other way round

Actually, it was both ways round. Initially Porsche were looking to by VW, then when that fell through, VW saw an opportunity.
