Why would this have anything to do with the tablet release? It's not like an upcoming tablet suddenly renders the contents of the page secret, and it's not like everyone on the internet, google cache, the wayback machine, etc. didn't already see/cache this. The cat's already out of the bag, so I can't see Apple caring about the website contents, even if the tablet is entirely based on that technology.

I had one of those chord keyboards (I have carpal tunnel), and found it very hard to use even after several months. I doubt Apple would foist this on the general public.

That's cause you were probably tensing up because your muscles were so used to being under stress. One of things that must be done to use these devices was to unlearn what you had learned before and learn now to actually relax those muscles. It took me a while to get used to the touchpad to the point where I wasn't tensing my muscles anymore.
But just before fingerworks could refine their product to it's full potential....Apple bought em. :(

I had a Touchstream LP I bought from Amazon before Apple bought them out. I returned it however because I did not like the smooth surface of the pad that gave you no tactile feedback like a normal keyboard.

For me, using the fingerworks touchpad mouse replacement in combination with a regular keyboard was a better solution.

Although, at this point I don't really care about tactile feedback. If Apple has solved that particular problem then I'll be all for that as well.

That may be so, but no way Apple releases a chorded keyboard input method that takes the average person many many months before they can even hit 20 wpm. No one will buy such a thing.

Well, duh. Clearly that thing IS the new Apple tablet.

You use it by putting on a Nintendo Power Glove and then you have everything you need. Throw away that iPhone!

I love the Power Glove... it's so bad :D

This is genuisly planned

Apple has a way of building us into a frenzy without actually being on record as the ones doing it. With all the vague rumor leaks this month and now this carefully orchestrated move that takes down Fingerworks' web site, they sure know how to stay in our minds and at the top of the tech blogs before a new product launch.

Coming soon: Media event announcement, iLife tablet rumors with more detail,
a potential screenshot leak of the new os, and a SJ retirement rumor.

Whatever happens, they got my attention. I feel like Cartmen waiting for the Wii. C'mon, c'mon already!!!!!

All signs point to YES.

This thing is gonna BLOW every competitor out of the water, it will be amazing...with the tablet, Apple will be able to reclaim the final frontier in the world of personal computing/media.

- music players: Apple;
- smartphones: Apple;
- tablets/slates/ebook readers: Apple;
- PCs: Apple (with Macs finally dominating the PC world, as it already happens in the high-end segment).

And people still think I am kidding when I say MS is DEAD. It's not only DEAD, it's BURIED deep in the ground. Apple will be able to buy MS in less than 5 years with its gigantic market cap.

My guess then is that Apple will do what I mentioned in my last post. And that was pair a traditional keyboard layout (software keyboard) with the full gamut of multi-touch gestures originally created for the full sized fingerworks multi-touch pad.

They were getting too much traffic because of the rumors that they exceeded their allotted bandwidth.
Parking the site was a solution to this.

Personally I expect that since the fingerworks gestures are fairly yucky, instead you'll see extensions of the iPhone's gestures into the z-direction. Using a camera or some other sort of proximity technology it will detect how far your hand is from the screen and use that with gestures that make much more intuitive sense that the fingerworks gestures.

i wonder why you think apple would want to buy MS?

that's like cartier diamonds buying woolworths.... why?????

or an excellent sushi restaurant 'finally' buying a burger joint. pointless.

The Apple tablet has been hyped up so much that people are expecting a very revolutionary device, with an equally revolutionary input method.

In reality, it won't be so advanced and a lot of people are going to be very disappointed.

I don't think "people" pay much if any attention to anything you say.. Every one of your posts on MR amounts to nothing more than a puddle of fanboy drool ;)

It will be released with a limited range of gestures to "reduce confusion", which themselves are simplified compared to the original Fingerworks language.

Then as time passes, additional gestures will be supported so the learning curve is more manageable. What will be interesting to find out is what gestures are part of the OS undocumented and become the "easter eggs of 2010".

Rocketman

This is exactly why I expect a revolutionary device. If it wasn't Apple's RDF drones would be putting out a lot of bad disinformation. But they aren't.

I was going to agree with that idea, but now I don't. The problem is that whatever gestures Apple doesn't support out-of-the-box will end up getting fragmented - developers will create their own gestures which vary from app to app. I would think Apple wouldn't like that. So I suspect that whatever gestures they plan to support would be in there from day one, but that there will be alternate methods of performing those operations other than gestures for people who haven't learned them all yet. For example, a magic gesture that pops up a menu allowing you to select from various operations instead of directly gesturing them.

someone has way to much time on their hands to unearth this. who cares? we haven't learnt anything new.

i just want new MBP's enough about this tablet.

It will be released with a limited range of gestures to "reduce confusion"...

To make the learning curve easier, it'll allow you to type only the letters A through E (and P's and L's) when it first reaches market. The rest of the alphabet will be introduced gradually until a software update is released a year later to boost sales of the gen 2 model, which will hype that new "feature".
:eek:

i think the new Apple Tablet is just a universal remote for the Apple TV.
it will allow us to change channels by gliding through them. when you get up and dance it changes to MTV, when you run it changes to ESPN, it'll watch your expressions and change channels for you.
